Scrappy is an invaluable airplane. I hope one day when you’re tired of flying it that it ends up in an aviation museum. I think you don't see designing like this because of a fundamental culture difference in engineering. Even in development practice, everything is rigidly controlled. Companies seem to care about reducing development waste rather than allowing more iterative design and innovation which inherently has more risk of failure. Also, I feel there is often a big disconnect between experienced consumers and design direction. Especially with valuing experienced enthusiasts opinion over the general market.

A huge part of engineering is cost control -- optimizing for efficiency of materials and labor. What makes this plane amazing is the absurd amount of time spent on it. This plane as built would have zero commercial success because it'd be 10x the cost of the competitors, in an already small market. PVC pipe! Duct tape! 😎.Also, good you machined the 10-32, that way no one will ruin a big part by trying to start the wrong size/thread pitch screw. I have learned a huge amount from you. The experience of building 14 prior aircraft shows through in your knowledge of what problems to anticipate and engineer around. Okay, what brand is your supplied air breather setup? That’s cool!
Mike am not trying to stroke your ego or anything like that but you are more than likely one of the smartest most talented men that I know of the way that you do things and the detail with which you explain them to me is extraordinary as I said I am not trying to blow your head up but you cannot deny the truth that being said my friend I wish you nothing but continued success also PSI cannot wait to see scrappy take the air That is going to be one awesome sight.
I forget the name of the company, but someone already went out and got a ton of info and scans of Draco to make a high quality model for X-plane last year. I haven’t heard any more regarding the project since then though.
That would be amazing, but I bet there would be some crazy numbers you have to punch in to get that type of performance! I don’t have a VR set up, but I would definitely buy one for that.
Watching Scrappy being built is amazing but the effort put into the video production with the funny clips and the side by side video is really cool as well.

@@daniellewis1789 I don't know about Kevin, but if I get distracted by a new Scrappy video, my pancakes may turn to pure carbon.
LOL. PANCAKES. Alittle piece of me has been longing for bizarre disk wings on either side... After his description of wanted characteristics as well , a original off design....
10:11 nice to see that Scrappy is helping out too!
Mike Patey never disappoints! We said we want 30mins you are giving us 30mins!! AWESOME!!! The knowledge this channel brings in just incredible!
Patently waiting for the scrappy wing. The ideas and engineering behind the idea is amazing.
Love the sanding helmet! It’s about time you protect yourself brother. Don’t want anything to happen to you!
Absolutely love the vids , watching all the way from UK 🇬🇧
Your work is amazing and an inspiration to others
I have literally watched this plane go from a skeleton on the ground after Draco was crashed to this wow
@Why O Why. You are not alone. Many of us have watched the build from the start.
Ditto
same
You ar not alone, highlight of the week when a new episode pops up in the notification bell;)
I've watched the Draco build a couple times and I've watch every video since.
It's just amazing how each video brings us a more and more overkill solution for every aspect of this build.
It's like:
-"How much performance you want?"
-"YES"
This is definetly a highlight in the week. Watch em all with my 10 month old son to get him on the propper track in life. By that I mean broke but with a low time Cub in the hangar. 😂
If you get your kid hooked on flying he won't have money for drugs haha.
This guy is so technologically clever & creative. It amazes me the way all these parts are designed & made!
I love everything about this plane, can’t wait to see the wings.
Saturday morning with Mike 😊.
love these videos...thanks for producing them
The cowling, it is a work of art, 28:27 went by in a blink 😳😁. Man oh man I am sure looking forward to seeing those wings now! Get back to work! 🤪
I've been watching it happen and it's still hard to believe. She is going to be a beautifully savage bird.
PVC pipe!
"I'm still sanding, yeah yeah yeah" -Elton John. 🤣
🤣 That cracked me up for sure...
DCS world should do a collaboration with you so we can fly Scrappy and Draco in VR!!!!
while MSFS wont do the physics any justice would be fun beating the bush with a group of dracos
I forget the name of the company, but someone already went out and got a ton of info and scans of Draco to make a high quality model for X-plane last year. I haven’t heard any more regarding the project since then though.
Someone already dropped Trent's freedom fox in to MSFS. Surely the modding community can handle it.
@@Josh-dr3fj thing is Draco and Scrappy dont and will never handle like the original planes they were made from
That would be amazing, but I bet there would be some crazy numbers you have to punch in to get that type of performance! I don’t have a VR set up, but I would definitely buy one for that.
Watching Scrappy being built is amazing but the effort put into the video production with the funny clips and the side by side video is really cool as well.
I hate that ending song sneaking on ya at the end 😂
Indeed.......
No joke I hear it and I’m like NOOOOOOO I WANT TO LEARN MORE!😂
Man, you inspire me everytime I see a video of yours, it confirms that we are all capable of amazing things!!! Thanks so much!
🎶“I’m still sanding, after all these years.” 🎶
Genius! I love how you've thought out the small details like the oil filler funnel.
I also laughed when you said, "I'll just make this filter box quickly", then built a complicated carbon fiber tube for it.
"I'm still sanding better than I ever did Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid.
I'm still sanding after all this time picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind" - Elton John ;)
Hilarious!
I came here to comment that I got that song as a popup in my brain when he said it...
we need a videocollage to that tune...
Thanks for another great video.... so nice watching a real craftsman at work.
Hi mike, thanks for the daily dose of motivation
Just WOW! That whole cowl is an engineering masterpiece! Great job! Thanks for sharing all the details.
