Im obsessed with this series... I got into engineering about 10 years ago and have used Reaper for the most part of that time and just recently switched to Studio One. I have to say, the workflow and simplicity is just downright insane and I've learned so much from you. I appreciate the videos you put out so much. Thanks, man.

As someone new to all of this - I cannot thank you enough for this series. Simple, to the point, autoreactive, and gives me all I need to establish a framework that I can slot new information into. The best overview explanation I have found (and I have watched a lot!). Bravo!
One question that I hope someone can help me with - I downloaded Joe's Template and want to play around with it but I am not sure how to do this. I am assuming that you put the two files into user/documents/studio one/templates (along with the other set-up templates? Well, I did this, but when I create a new song - the template is not there (yes, I have checked the 'user' tab) - what am I doing wrong?

I would to model your template to my own personalization, but for some reason i can't open the template file.
Nice hint about reference track routing. For me it's easier to create MIX buss for mixing and leave MASTER buss untouched to let reference play.

Thanks soo much Joe! I however like many people in the comments can not open the file. It does nothing when i open it as a song, or drag to any folder, or open with studio one from downloads folder. Nothing works. It shows if i copy and paste it to a song folder or i made template folder (didnt see templates already as a folder), But STILL will not do anything or show up.
Thanks so much for these videos! Like many before me I'm sure you've helped greatly, I've been attempting home recording and mixing for years and have been perpetually disappointed with the results. Really grateful for this clear and detailed instruction and walkthrough of Studio One.
Having trouble getting the template to load in and pull up on studio One - I'm.a sphere member and just downloaded the most recent version. when I click on the template file or try to drag it into studio one, nothing happens. Any advice on getting it to work? Love the organizational system you've set up

Well, when I drag and drop the individually colored tracks to the folder, the colors don't change to the folder color. They stay the same as they were when I dragged the tracks into Studio One as new tracks. Any reason they don't all change to the color of the folder track?

Here's the solution : you have to check Options->Advanced->Editing-> then something like apply the color of the folder track to the content

Thank you for your time and help! I too have been having problems opening the file. I've read various comments and saw people were saying to double click to open and 'save as templates'. I created a template folder in Studio One and tried to move the template from my desktop to the template folder I created to see if it worked and no luck. When I click the template, studio one opens but file doesn't come up--it simply stays at my home page (recent projects on the left, news feed on far right). I do have Studio One 4 Artist and using it on a MacBook Pro...could it be that this particular template doesn't correspond with the artist version? If not so be it...still learning a lot from you!! Thanks again :)

Drag the file to your templates folder then it will show up under User templates in Studio One. - Joe Gilder
Dragged MIX + FOLDERS.data and MIX.FOLDERS.songtemplate and both sitting in templates folder but nothing shows up in S1. Totally new to S1. Apparently there's something else I'm missing.

Hello, I am somewhat new to Studio One 4, and am pretty desperate to mix down some material as soon as possible. I appreciate your information, but for as much as I have continuously tried to download your template, I have had no success whatsoever in doing so. I see that other people have posted having similar issues with this. Is there any way you could post a step by step how to download your template? This is just not working
Hi Joe, I saved the mix/folders into my template folder and opened it under the user tab to create a new song and it was empty. What did I do wrong? Never mind...tried it again and it said it is not compatible because it was created with a newer version of Studio One.
This is another great video! Unfortunately I am having an issue using Joe's Template. I was able to download it from dropbox no problem ... and it looks like I've moved it to the correct folder but it is "greyed out" and is not coming up as an option when I attempt to open it as a User Template under New Song. I've also tried to create a Drum template to record my acoustic kit and I am having the same issue - I can see the template using Finder but it is greyed out and doesn't appear as a User option :(

Joe i like your approach to organisation by starting with just busses and the dragging tracks to the arranger then putting them into the folder. I go one further and my template has blank tracks which have the typical inserts i use for tracks. This however means that i can't drag tracks into the folder,basically i want to add my raw audio onto the existing tracks that are pre-populated with my inserts, is there a way to do this? I don't want to have to manually drag each audio track to each blank template track.
Nicks Corsair S1 Tips to do that you’ll have to manually drag them. I’ve done that for album project where I have mixed the first song, created a template from that mix, and then drag the raw files onto the channels with plug-ins already on them

Hey! Is there a way to do multiple folders? I happen to create busses for kick, snare, just distorted guitars, verse vocals etc. But when i create folders that are my bigger buss channels, routing is ruined and everything just goes to Drums, Vocals etc.

Love your videos. Very helpful. I downloaded the files from this page, but I get an error message saying the file is broken or could not be opened when I try to open your "Mix+Folders.songtemplatefile". The Mix+Folders file loads and opens but I get an error message saying two files are missing: 1- Convology-Vintage spring reverb 2- Motif ES8 device. Can you please advise?
Yeah the convology is a paid impulse response I use for spring reverb sounds. Motif is a keyboard I use. You can just delete those from the file.
I am having trouble with my drums folder. I use impact for my drums and when I create a folder for drums the channels do not hide/collapse when I close the folder. Every other folder I do works fine. It is just my drums folder when using impact only the kick channel shows/hide when I open/close the folder. Think you can help?!! Thanks for all your videos.
Hmmm.......so other folders will collapse but not impact?
I can't open the template file on Win10, says the file is broken.
you have to drag it into your templates folder
What about a having a -3db limiter on your master to protect from accidentally clipping (e.g. soft synths)?
What about mixing correctly? :D You can always boost, just don't clip.
If you're talking about master buss, ofc. I use limiter in mixing a lot
Instead of that, set your levels properly and you won’t have clipping.

How would I route, say, Apple Music to a bus in my S1 session? That would make for easier referencing. I'm on a mac by the way.
Not sure. would be simpler to route it to an external device like a monitor station.

If so, I have all audio from my mac playing through my interface (Focusrite Clarett 8pre). Can you describe how I could get that audio into my session, to the master bus?
You could use an app like Loopback.

Never mind...I Just saw the part of the Pro EQ on the reverbs. Could you provide a little more detail on the FAT Channel settings?
@@andynovak9838 man, i am no Joe, but consider setting it up for your taste. If it sounds good, it is good, you know. If you ask me, i don't like their compressors in fat channel, though the usual stock one is great. I think both 1176 and la-2a are too heavy-handed and noticeable, they don't work for me

Sorry, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to open it as a song. Could you please explain the steps in detail, starting with, ok it's in my documents folder, and now what? I've tried right clicking and selecting "Open with Studio One". Apparently that's not working for me. Thanks!
@@sheltune I'm having the same problem too; the file is just greyed out and won't open. Did you ever get a reply? It seems strange that its only 250 bytes...
