That cam was fucked. And they didn't even take the rig off the boar rings will no doubt come up and brake on the rig on first fire. Very likely why number four smoked non stop not good for a rebuild

Would be very interesting to see the life expectancy of an engine rebuillt here without torque wrenches and when parts are all laying in sand vs a shop that does pristine work. These guys work wonders with what they have no doubt but it would be interesting to see the longevity of the engines.
In usa this would cost a fortune to rebuild . Maybe 30 to 50k or more..
in pakistan maybe 2 to 3k.
I had to rebuild a engine for my 2.4liter 4runner 1997 that I bought last year I blew the engine up.. only around 300 bucks to rebuild.. while I went there on a vacation.. lol..

I was thinking the same but if this shop did rebuilds that only lasted 2000 hours or less they might not be in business. This really isn't a rebuild it's an assembly of an older CAT, maybe some new parts like cylinder sleeves. I really enjoyed this video.
Despite the less than ideal working conditions they do a remarkable job of keeping the parts that need to be clean - clean.
New rings, maybe cylinder sleeves (didn't show), and oil on the head gaskets.
I like how they align all the ring gaps 👌
Terrible method. They need to be opposite each other to prevent any blowby.

Oh that was some good shit right there LoL the hand job torque procedure on the dampener pulley and the flywheel no star pattern was awesome too but hey this video was awesome! I loved it and that fire up with no manifold was awesome.

Not a Caterpillar engine. The number cast in the housing at 17:10 shows it is a Komatsu engine.

They look like they know what they're doing for the most part. I don't know how much of a rebuild this, I didn't see any new parts. The camshaft looked like it had seen better days?

Yes, this is a Komatsu 6 Cylinder. A Japanese copycat of a similar engine design by Cummins only a little bigger engine displacement. Used in the old Komatsu D375 series dozers

Great teamwork between all the mechanics on flipflops, and they did an excellent job getting it all together. When they dropped the compression release, the engine fired up immediately. Bit of smoke but that disappeared quickly. Good job.

They work well together that engine will probably be rebuilt another 3 times in the next 90 year's

Or a lot more than 3 times. They need a torque wrench and proper torque settings for connecting rod bearings. A more modern engine would only last a month if not appropriately torqued up.
I'm thinking more like 90 days, especially from the look of those cam lobes at 2:46, no cross hatch in the bores, oil on the head gasket, 5 ft cheater bar torque wrench, does sound good tho....for a steam engine. No tools to work with so I guess a fella should be thankful it sorta ran.

Esse motor é 100% injeção mecânica, se tiver diesel na câmara e a pressão certa na cabeça do pistão, ele funciona sem erro.
Também acho !!! Só gostaria de saber quento tempo vive esse pessoal ? As condições parar trabalharnão são nada boas. Não que não existam oficinas assim pelo Brasil !

Ну ремонтом это назвать сложно, разобрали помыли и собрали. Герметика напихали во все дырки, даже стартер и тот на герметик посадили😅. Одно хоть радует кольца вроде новые подкинули и вкладыши. Работа энергоëмкая но бесполезная.

If it ran away on them you would see them scatter fast ! Except for a few gaskets ads seals I don't know if they replaced many parts . The one piston they were installing it looked like the ring gaps were almost lined up.
I guess a clean up and 20 involved in doing it is considered a restoration. All it needs is some yellow paint !
piston ring gaps needing to be 90° off is a myth, piston rings rotate on their own during engine running, different rings rottate at different speeds so they ought to line up at some point
@@Altgottt Sorry but you are wrong . I was a mechanic for many years and the gaps were always off-set , from big engines to small . Valves rotate but not piston rings.
@@johnready630 don't think I'm in the wrong here, piston rings do rotate! It's literally just a fact that they do. Next time you rebuild an engine write down where you put the gaps and then check after running it for a while. You will see that they rotated
