Awesome! A perfect palace for sweet Smokey. Loved watching the head scratches - she is so sweet and very precious. Frankly, I prefer not to hang plants on the outside. I think it could be overkill, but that's just my personal opinion. Thanks for the tour. Love and kisses to Smokey. ❤❤❤❤
It's beautiful. Lots of space for a bird. If it gets too warm outside I'd put a container for her to bathe. We often forget they can't sweat, so to cool down, they need to cool off. My macaw wants showers every other day... (I'm in Texas and it gets hot). i can't imagine once a week ;). My macaw walks to the bathroom or steers me to get a shower and sings blissfully when showeering. I've been a long time air plant lover. Awesome all around deal.
To everyone saying she needs a mate. My female Grey didn’t care for 2 beautiful males. If they grow up with humans they rarely care for other Congo African Greys. Species like conures, cockatiels, budgies and lovebirds are super social and always love to have lots of friends… with Greys it is hit or miss when buying another bird for company
@@wingsNpaws Yeah I rehabilitate quite a few African Greys. If they aren’t raised in a flock they might not appreciate a friend. Smokey is happy and healthy and I don’t think there’s a reason to get a friend as she isn’t lonely. If she doesn’t accept the friend you’ll need two cages and have to do double the work. I thought my conure would be happier with a female and he ended up becoming overprotective over her and aggressive towards humans. That also resulted in them becoming very broody and wanting to breed.
It looks awesome!🥰🥰🥰 The floor you created looks amazing! The Mexican Beach pebbles sound like a wonderful solution and should look great too! I love the Air plants what an great addition! No pooping on your owner! 🤣🤣🤣Gorgeous blossoms!🌸🐞🌸
Nice to see Smokey again. I like the greenery surrounding the aviary. The air must be very calm there. I am in Reno and have a big mountain nearby and it is always windy outside from the mountain and my Timneh doesn't like the wind.
This aviary is so nice and i am sure smokey would love this aviary. Thanks for this video! Also the food foraging toy, you could search up the caitec food tumbler. Its exactly the same as the one you currently have
Our birds don’t appreciate us Boo was playing with me yesterday and landed on my head. What did she do, she pooped on my head. She has not done that since she was a baby. Love the new aviary.
I love ❤️ how it came out!! You did a great job. Love the air plants and enjoyed watching her use her rope to get treats.Again congratulations on the house .
I live in Montana. Not a great environment for my Grey! I used to bring him out with me in the summer while I gardened. He had his own moveable perch, and I watched him like a hawk...until last August, he disappeared in a blink of an eye. I searched high, low, canvased the entire 30 acres and beyond. we had an early frost the 2nd evening he was gone, my soul was shattered as, by the 3rd nite i had to accept he was gone. Day 4, I forced myself from my bed, and decided to help my husband feed the horses. I was facing the horses when I heard a whistle. I asked Scott if he had whistled, with a HUGE grin he said, "No, but that cutie behind you did!" Jack had hidden himself under our kayak and canoe rack and FINALLY announced he was alive! JOY!!!! (My problem now, is, the fear this could happen again denies our gardening together. What do you suggest? He was a rescue, and already an adult. It has taken me a long while for him to bond with me. He would not be happy with tethering. Caging him outdoors rather defeats the purpose.
You could use Chlorophytum comosum (spider plant), it's very hardy so doesn't need much care, it will hang and grow copies of itself downwards, and also blooms tiny flowers at certain points. But I kinda like the aviary as it is, those curved hooks and decorative shapes at the top make it look like a vintage gazebo. Plants would maybe just cover it up ? Not sure, but anyway glad your setup is complete and smokey seems well settled in.✌👍🙏🏻
Hi, love your video's. Are you still making video's? Are you able to use your avery all year? I'm hoping to buy one ready for summer, probably won't be able to use it during the winter monthes tho. I looked for one of them foraging wheels, its really lovely xx
That is a stunning aviary. It is made by King's Cages in NJ. We have a wonderfull travel cage and large play pen top all Aluminum cages fronm King's Cages for our "grandson" Ira (African Gray). PS King's sells replacement parts for there cages so if you even need to replace the entry or feeder door latches. They should be able to sell you one if needed.
What places besides offer up would you go and look for these used aviaries? I saw cages on Facebook but I’d like to know more places that people use to sell items thank you.
PS you can buy a new version of Smokey's foraging treat dispenser from Caitec (Paradise Toys) They call it a "Food Tumbler" and list it under their Creative Foraging Systems catalog. The Food Tumbler is under $18 (Clear transparent) They have a vide variety of other foraging toys. Ira ( our African Gray ) has a couple of them and enjoys them. Though we do a lot of fresh sprouted grain and seed diet with fresh greens and Harrison pellets. Give them a look been happy with their products.
Very nice! But a safer aviary would be the one Jamie uses (from bird tricks) that has a door in a door so you can safely enter and exit without the bird trying to escape
OMG that's truer than you realize. Poor Smokey got spooked while John was fixing her perch, flew out the door and up into the sky and was gone forever. So heartbreaking. 😭
my dream aviary!! I have learned so much from you. If possible, can you make a video of how you deal with Smoky when Smoky is not all obedient? I know sometimes birds just do not feel like doing what you want them to do but how do you make Smokey want to do the things you want her to do most of the time?
Is it possible to get the model number for the aviary or any other info that helps people source it? 7 ft by 6 ft diameter, a very good size for her. The stainless is superior because powder coated metal can be toxic to them.
Hello I wanted to purchase a book on African Grey Parrots and wondered if you have written one? Or can you recommend a book for potential owners? I really enjoy following your channel and respect your stance on African Grey parrots. Thank you
i need ur help. i cant get my african gray to eat new foods. how can i get him to eat new foods because i’ve never seen a video on how to get birds to eat new foods
Youre one of my favourite youtubers. Love you & smokey's connection. I have an African gray; just like yours- he's currently 7 months old & his name is Cooper :) I want to one day, design an aviary for him- currently living in an apartment :( Thank-you for making content for us! please make more videos every month. Love, Ammar & Cooper
I really love your videos, they’re so helpful. Can you please do a video of what we can feed an African Grey and what not to. The dos and don’t’s of an African Greys diet
nice, i am building one for a range of birds from lovebird up to macaw it'll be a lot bigger to give the different types of birds space to avoid each other, i was going to go with wood but seeing how fast my macaw gets trough wood toys i had a rethink, ppl keep telling me to do aluminium that id treat for impurity's but for not much extra i could get stainless steel, but i do know its harder to work with, as in if it gets two hot it gets to hard to work with, but stainless steel is always the best to go with..
An idea for plants is STAR JASMINE plants, they are green and they actually extend with time, also they have a nice smell with flowers that bloom, but i think u should research more to see if its bird safe, wouldnt want smokey getting hurt
Hello. I adopted 4 year old African grey and she is so amazing. I’ve been with her for 5 months and she has became very happy and her feathers changed and look so much better and we have done everything possible for her to be happy. The only issue is that she is very reluctant to eat anything but seeds. I been trying to introduce her to pellets and natural foods like fruits and veggies and she has not been eating any of that! I need help because I want to change her diet and make sure she is getting the best nutrition possible! If you guys have any tips please feel free to share!
Hey my friend, I really thank you very much your videos, i love watching them all and i remember you mentioned once, you are planning to add a boyfriend to Smoky so please let me know 🙏 when it's gonna happen, I'm quite sure I'll be able to help you to make it safe and successful. Please don't take it judgemental, or if you don't trust me, look for the best breeders. Pairing up parrots has got very little to do with trainers or behaviours, but realisable breeders can help you more. I consider a realisable breeder with at least 30 years of breeding experience. Don't waste your time with those who has luckily bred 1 or 2 clutches of chicks in their living room. Don't really on trainers whose are only capable to follow existing examples. Breeders do swap breeding pairs in order to improve mutations. I know it sounds cruel, but their knowledge is what you need. Once again, I love your videos including your attitude and passion towards Smoky and please keep us updated. Thanks very much.
I have just got an african grey. His name is Charlie he came from a loving home and was very affectionate with his previous owner. He will share my food and will take food from my hand. He flies to my knee for a treat but he will bite if i try to touch him especially when he is on his cage. Its early days and i talk to him when i pass his cage and he 'sings' to me when I'm in the room. Have you any tips. Thanks

Please don't buy on impulse and don't buy of the internet. I've had a Grey for 24 years, raised him from six weeks old, I love him dearly but if I were to do it again I would NOT buy any larger or even medium size parrot. These birds are way too intelligent to be kept in captivity, and they are heartbroken when re-homed, ...it is basically a commitment humans should not make. In most cases they also outlive their owners. I'd urge anyone to try and refrain, ...or get a small parrot that lives a shorter lifespan and becomes less emotionally dependent on their beloved owner.
I agree, my 2 are about 13 yrs old now & I am 58, I worry terribly what will happen to them when I die, I was thinking it would be kinder to put it in my will for them to be euthanised upon my death, what are your thoughts parrot lovers ?
Hey. Love your videos! Just found the channel today and I already love the videos. I have an African Grey and I want to know if you have to give them baths or not. If so, could you maybe do a video where you tell us how to train your bird to bath 🤔
