I've been vegan for 5+ years. I put it off so long expecting it would be so difficult, especially giving up cheese. Not only it was super easy, but I never missed cheese. My only regret is waiting so long.
The food industry especially the fast fake food industry is doing its darnedest to keep this info from the public. Buy off corrupt politicians and governments to avoid focusing on animal agriculture
Vegan for 11 years, 58 y.o.. Donated a kidney to a stranger July of 23, then hiked the 2,650 mile PCT from Mexico to Canada This year. Completed in 108 days. Just had labs done, all came back exceptional
@ So I take a B12, but I also take a D3 as 50% of Americans are deficient. That’s it. Also it’s important to note here that somewhere around 80% of B12 supplements in the USA are added to animal feed. B12 is a product of bacteria and with 90+% of animals being finished in factory farming situations, they are not grazing and getting this B12 naturally. 👍
I've been a vegan for 30+ years. When I moved to a super-liberal town, I noticed lots of Priuses and EVs. And that was great! But most people were still eating hamburgers and steaks. It was disheartening. Most liberals are clueless about the food connection to climate change. So thanks for the work you do!
I have been vegan for 4 years, and I can tell you that I have never felt better, eaten more tasty food, and have never had my food be so cheap. It angers me when people say that eating plant based is more expensive, because study after study shows that dairy and meat and eggs are infinitely more expensive, even while they are subsidized so their prices are artificially low. The only reason why meat and dairy seem to be cheaper in some areas is because the government props up the low price, at the cost of the tax payers and the people who work on the farms. When your meat comes at a low price, there is always an environmental, human, and animal cost to that. 😊
Plant -based for 13 years now, it was one of the best decisions of my life. I am 72 years old now, and my doctor says I am his most healthy patient. Going plant based is a win. win. win, win! Health, more energy, pocketbook. environment, and protecting the animals! Unbelievable potential there! 2:50
Bravo Al Jazeera for addressing this issue! I have eaten a whole food plant-based diet for 18 years and been a plant-based nutritional therapist for 12 years. I recommend going plant-based 100% for two reasons- the first is our planet is freaking on fire. We are already past several planetary boundary tipping points! Eliminating fossil fuels and implementing green energy is not going to fix it. Secondly on a personal level, fat salt and sugar found in animal products and processed foods is very addictive. If one keeps eating just a little bit of that indefinitely they will never break the addiction. It will always feel like something is missing with your satiety. Going full WFPB, those addictions go away within 3 to 5 weeks and one starts feeling the benefits within 2 wks or less!
Vegan 16 years now! As I read in other comments, I feel so much better now - physically, mentally and spiritually! My only wish: that I had done it sooner!
For me it was a totally selfish decision cause I don't like suffering and I want everyone to be able to eat and I know it's one of the crucial things we also need to do to have a chance at minimising the effects of climate change, 6th mass extinction, habitat loss etc.
Same here, vegan for 13 years, best decision I have ever made, best for the animals, for our planet and for my health, I haven’t seen a doctor for more than 10 years, imagine MORE THAN 10 YEARS 👊🏽😁 if all the doctors were subscribing a plant base diet to sick people instead of pills, so many people would live a better life but they don’t want that, otherwise they’d be out of business.. Sick people are their bread and butter So go vegan people👏🏽 Take back your health in your hands.. Go vegan to save innocent sentients beings and save yourself too😊
@AnimalsLiberationNow While going vegan does as a bonus come with some health benefits and lower risk of certain diseases, it's not the only health risk out there. Covid is still steadily saddling more people with chronic illness and heart disease with every wave. Protecting your health these days means more than what you eat. You need to try get access to vaccine boosters and wear a well fitting respirator where air is shared, or the best mask you can get hold of. I think it's great that you have personally benefitted in your health from planning your diet in a way that it has helped a lot! But we should be careful making claims that people 'won't need pills' because we don't know that.
Vegan for 21 years, vegetarian for 26. Your digestion and complexion greatly improve kicking dairy out of your diet. Problem in the US is the massive corn subsidy, mostly for "livestock" feed.
We went whole food plant base after watching forks over knife 10 years ago and our grocery bill went down also got off of blood pressure meds. Lowered blood sugar and both of us lost 150 lbs between us. We buy in bulk and grow what we can. I wish everyone could experience what we have. ❤️❤️❤️
Vegan for 30 years. It only took a couple weeks to get used to it. In these times, we have such little control over most things. This is something we can actually do. The key is to just try it, even if only a few meals a weeks. You will feel better. Fifty six years old and no medical issues or pains. Still have all my own joints and parts, no meds, no allergies and no menopause symptoms. I hiked Grand Canyon rim2rim a month ago.
I am 83, been whole food plant based for 2 years. Gave up sugar also. High blood pressure went away. Take no medications When asked I say I'm vegan for 3 reasons: 1: My health 2: Animal welfare 3: The planets welfare
LOL, a Whole Food Plant Based diet is about as cheap as you can get. My wife and I eat very well, and we are seniors on a fixed income. We have lots of fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans and grains. I have been vegan for almost 15 years and I don't miss animal products at all.
It bothered me that he kept saying vegan diets are too expensive. What does he think beans and lentils cost? Nuts and seeds are cheaper than meat. Some fresh fruits and veggies are expensive per calorie, but many are incredibly cheap.
We have the power with the choice of what we consume every single day (for those privileged enough). Veganism is the easiest way to choose a more compassionate and less impactful way to live for people, planet and of the course the animals. 20+ years vegan here!
I watched game changers in jan 2021 and decided to go plant based. I use to think I needed to eat meat cheese and dairy but I wasnt healthy (low energy pre diabetic) after cutting out those things Ive become so much lighter happier healthier! Ive lifted more run better and have clear skin. Plus I always hated buyin/ prepping meat now I skip those aisles!!
Thank you, Al Jazeera, for highlighting this crucial, science-supported initiative and resisting the usual false narratives that justify the consumption of meat and animal products. This is journalism at its finest-centered on science, free from bias, and focused on solutions. A shift to a plant-based food system is not just beneficial-it’s essential for humanity’s survival. As Anita and Juan so eloquently explained, it’s the single most effective way to reduce our environmental impact and mitigate the climate crisis.

Excellent discussion. The most important challenge ahead of us. People need to understand this benefits everyone in every way. Continuing violence and destruction helps no one.
Nice to see this discussed on MM. The animal agriculture industry is exploitative and frankly barbaric. Let's hope people start looking at the deeper issues both environmental and ethical. 🌿
Vegan agriculture is 100% reliant on petrochemical *teratogenic 6th Extinction* pesticides and herbicides and now those poisons are in our food and water and our childrens' bodies. Your opinion is yours alone, and don't even pretend you hold the higher moral ground.
Great interview. People still don’t realize how much they can help the planet, health and the animals! Meat is just a habit-people are used to it, but there are 1000s of plants we can eat and learn to make delicious. Be curious and be willing to break old unhealthy habits-we are making the earth sick if we keep pushing meat and dairy on everyone. People are starving because of animal farming.
"People are starving because of animal farming" This is true. Enormous resources go to raise huge animals like pigs and cows, and even chickens due to the sheer numbers farmed. We could be growing plants to feed ourselves instead
@@dontnoable You do realize "growing" plants in an industrial scale to feed everyone requires us to litererally make the ground sterile and pump tons of pesticites to prevent insects from eating your crops?
Going vegan 10 years ago was the best life decision I've made. I enjoy trying new vegan food all the time and the fact that I'll never be the reason an animal is slaughtered for food again is important. The environmental and health bwnefits are huge bonuses too.
Same here. It took me a bit of back and forth, at first, cheese was not easy to give up for me at first. Then when I permanently went vegan I knew it was for good and have not looked back. It is the best thing I've done in my life, and like everyone else, only regret not doing it sooner now I've done it 🌱🐾
I've been Whole Food Plant Based for 6 years and I'm now 78. Best decision I've ever made, and I used to say that my best decision was giving up smoking! (For the record, that was monumental for my health, also!) The decision to go vegan was mainly for my health at the time, but now I'm so glad I did it as well for the animals and for the planet! Kudos to Al Jazeera for such a great article without editorializing against veganism or WFPB people!
Vegetarian. I was at University on Santa Cruz where they had great access to vegan food. I lapsed, but since have been inspired by George Monbiot and Chris Hedges to stop eating meat. Lost 20 lbs. 660 gallons of water for one cheeseburger, and we give away the water for free to livestock farmers.
Now do how many gallons of water for your dragon fruit flown half-way around the world, to a giant fossil fuel refrigeration warehouse, and your vegan teratogenic *6th Extinction* pesticides/herbicides poisoning our foods and bodies, and laying waste to the TILTH.
Low cost veganism might include a bag of beans, a bag of grains, and some frozen vegetables. Perhaps, just search for information and educate yourself as you wish. A vitamin B12 supplement is essential, I think. Potatoes help a lot too. Good luck.
100% agree. I would also add that roughly 20-30% of people have a B12 deficiency, which is way more than the % of vegans. Vegans are no more or less likely to be B12 deficient. Everyone should supplement it. Similar with vitamin D; unless you live near the equator, most people should supplement it.
I'm vegan for 10+ years and since then I got very successful doing IRONMEN. I never took any supplements. So its definitely not essential ;) For some might be true, but not for everybody ;)
@andreaslauer3432 No it is essential to take B12 supplements. Even farmed animals are given B12 supplements because it just isn't available in what they're provided to eat. So vegans just need to supplement ourselves more directly
@@donHooliganWe do need to start growing more food for ourselves. I agree with this. But people should absolutely go vegan also and that process can start today
Thank you for this timely and powerful coverage. For anyone feeling confused by the naysaying comments, please refer further to the unbiased and rigorous data from leading researchers such as Poore & Nemecek, very clearly explained by Our World in Data (the page on land-use-diets is a great place to start). Bottom line: switching to plant-based diets would enable us to nourish a population of 10 billion humans on even less cropland than is currently used in the global agricultural system, returning 3/4 of farmland to nature. This is restorative on every level. Anyone arguing against it is arguing for a permanently impoverished world for themselves, their children, and all species on the only living planet we know. By contrast, making this shift aligns with our shared goals of health, social equity and compassion as well as being an essential step to secure a liveable future. It's a change we can all get behind, every day with our own choices, and by joining the movement for institutional change by endorsing the call for Plant Based Treaty too.
"Returning 3/4 of farmland to nature" You're NUTS! That is absolute ANTI-SCIENCE!! People are starving all across ln'dia by _200,000,000's_ and they don't eat meat! Their agriculture practices have devastated the soil and left 1,000,000 of hectares degraded. Vegan agriculture is *100% DEPENDENT ON FOSSIL FUELS* from deforestation killing the trees _and all animals in the forest,_ to tilth destruction killing all the organisms in the soil, to ground-water over-extraction and desertification, as we're seeing all around the world, ... _and it's NOT from 'Climate Change'(c),_ *INDUSTRIAL AGRICULTURE IS THE CHANGE.* Vegan agriculture is *100% DEPENDENT ON PETRO-CHEMICALS* from chemical fertilizers *to 6th Extinction teratogenic pesticides and herbicides.* We're flying fruits from half-way around the world, stored for months in gigantic fossil fueled refrigeration warehouses and grocery displays, where 15% is tossed in dumpster, another 25% is trimmed and tipped! Been vegan since 2019 and the only problem I have now are the people still asking "how can I survive without meat!" It's alos not true that plant-based meals are more expensive.
@@danyelatellez9262 Absolutely! Seaspiracy opened a lot of our eyes, even a lot of vegan eyes since people in general find fish suffering a bit less direct to relate to given they are underwater and don't vocalise when in pain
Ok on seeing the segment you're referring to, it seems like they're referring to places where vegan fresh produce is difficult to access. There are some areas in poor America where you need to drive to find fresh produce. But fast food restaurants will sell you ready meals. Not everyone will have as much choice in that situation. It doesn't mean people there can't go vegan, but it will limit how much plant food they can include in their diets, cause they might not have much choice. I agree with the overall idea that veganism is on average cheaper than nonvegan though, and the studies back that up. There will be people on the margins of that though, and that is the fault of capitalism and of the pervasiveness of meat industries.
I feed 100 families with 300 acres all the beef pork chicken and veggies they could eat. I use less fuel than a person going back and forth to work. Less than 2 gallons a day. I am negative 16 tons of carbon since I put it back in the soil. Vegan life plow spray fertilizer depending on Large amounts of fossil fuel. Less than 10 percent as productive as farms like mine. Without cattle you can't put carbon back in the soil fast. Feed lots and pig, chicken houses are the problem yet we are all blamed
It's about time you try plant based nourishment. I have been for 15ish years and it has got SO much better and easier. I am a very healthy 70 y/o and have better health than I did 20 years ago.
I went plant based vegan 9 years ago at 50. Number one benefit was spiritual, no longer was I ingesting violence. From there I became more aware of violence around the world whether human, animal or our incredible beautiful planet. 59, female on no medications, resting pulse of a professional athlete, perfect BP range, and multitude of health benefits. However, the biggest is not participating in violence of other beings. Imagine the psychological harm to those who have no choice but to work in slaughter houses? I feel closer to God than ever before. Peace and love to all.
Thank you for addressing this issue, it's the most important thing we can do to ensure a livable future. Two studies on the costs of various diets show that people who eat plant based spend 16-30% less on groceries. As Anita says, the closer we get to whole plant foods, the cheaper it is. Dried beans, lentils, chickpeas, tofu and tempeh are considerably less expensive than meat, and nuts and seeds are usually cheaper than dairy and eggs. I for one feel like I've been aging backwards for the nine years I've eaten a plant based diet, and my health is better than ever at 43 years. Worth looking into is the work of Dr. Sailesh Rao, who's systems engineering analysis of climate change indicates that animal agriculture could be responsible for 87% or more of warming and that ending the industry before phasing out fossil fuels is crucial to prevent pushing us well past 2C and triggering catastrophic tipping points that make collapse accelerated and irreversible.
Even the Bible tells us that the vegan diet is preferable. See the story in the book of Daniel 1:11-16. (It’s not about religion. It’s about the wisdom that comes from scripture.)
@@donHooligan ~ I agree that buying food is the problem, but the book to which I refer offers the solution. As I mentioned above, it’s not about religion.
Not at all, adam and eve ate fruit as it was plentiful and it was ok for the biosphere they lived in, then the flood comes and no more abundant fruit and varied biosphere and conditions. so it's vegetables and meats and proteins. And then there's the lazy office workers and old people who don't need much in the way of protein etc, easy to be a soy boy pushing pens around etc.
After being a consumer who insisted on animal products at every meal for my whole adult life (thanks to the industrial animal exploiters manipulative brainwashing that implied I needed to), I went Vegan about a decade ago. One of the best decisions I've made my whole life. I feel better. I look better. My doctor says I'm much healthier. I have a much smaller environmental footprint. And I'm NOT supporting industrial animal exploiters who cause so much animal suffering and environmental damage. I wish more people would have an open mind about this topic. ps - THANK YOU for being brave enough to take on this topic, since mainstream media avoids it.
Wish I could go vegan but the days I've tried only eating plant based, no meat... I kept going back to my cubby and snacking constantly, it was like my body was always in a state of hunger. When I have meat, I truly stay full and full for longer and I like that feeling of being well feed. I love vegetables, serve them all the time as a side with my meals however just dieting mainly on that is a wild transition for me... It's also very much baked into my culture to serve meat so I don't want to be excluded out of that connection with my circle of friends and family.
Went from carnivore (only grass fed steak) to vegan 13 years ago. Never had dairy. Don’t need it, in my 60’ now and no arthritis, osteoporosis etc from nasty milk. So happy that I no longer contribute to animal suffering. Al Jazeera is great for its documentaries that no other news channels will cover. ❤
How a plant-based food system feeds everyone and eliminate hunger is what urged me to change my way of eating. I went vegan also for animal rights and philosophical reasons...will be seven uears vegan in December. No regrets. Haven't died of protein deficiency...and I'm from a meat loving Asian country.😅
20 years ago, I used to eat A LOT of meat. Since learning how severe the impact of animal agriculture is on the whole planet, I have significantly reduced my meat consumption. It is a win win situation. I feel much better now, way more energetic and healthier. Still, I love cheese and I am desperately searching for good (!) alternatives to animal based cheese, but, sadly, many products are just not there yet. Hoping for new and better products in this sector soon.
Iv been vegan about 6 years now at first it was for just the environment as I had previously tried for years to reduce my carbon footprint and reduce my waste but realised that as much as I beat myself up for not being perfect at it. That indersty changing and government change would have more impact than me. For me being able to take myself out of one whole indersty was a relief. Also it has been a really cheap way to eat compared to organic meat and meat in general.
@@AmyDodd-broad it has definitely worked out cheaper for me also being vegan. Tofu, pulses, legumes, frozen fruit and veg, canned lentils and chickpeas, oatmeal, dried herbs and spices, tahini, bananas, mangoes -all relatively cheap (even though everything no matter what you eat is getting more expensive 🥲)
The plant based treaty is helping motivate us to take a crucial action that needs to be spread worldwide. People need to go vegan and make this world a better place for all of us. Taking this action will improve your own health, will save countless animals and will help our environment survive and thrive, including all the living beings on it. We deserve to love and be loved and killing our planet and everyone on it is just madness. Enough is enough. Time for positive changes for all. Thanks for this informative video 🙏🏼✊
I was vegetarian for years, developed an intolerance to lentils, pulses, chickpeas. Shifted to mostly carnivore, and now feel amazing. I notice I have far less waste, less shopping, it’s cheaper and I don’t have to eat 3 x a day. Just once or twice. I’m still growing summer tomatoes and basil. I suspect if you did the carbon sums for reduced waste, packaging, transport for carnivore compared to plant and processed food, that the plant based approach might not deliver the co2 abatement hoped for. I’m a CO2 scientist.
The cost of going plant based being high is a myth. If your daily meal plan is bean and grain-based, with key vegetables and fruits integrated in, it is much cheaper than a meat-focused diet. Go to your local supermarket and price out beans and whole grains. If you have a bulk section in that market it is even cheaper.
I was vegetarian for 30 years before becoming vegan 12 years ago, although very healthy as a vegetarian I gained a further health improvement as a vegan. But far more important than the benefits for myself, what I did to animals. Other people continue to now, was and is as immoral as any of us harming any human.
Whole food vegan for six years now, and I feel terrific. I had a long standing dairy allergy (casein) that was not diagnosed until 2017. So, infected sinus for most of 60 years, grew up on a dairy farm so I'd always felt crappy (and thought others must too, so didn't get it looked at), then developed a swallowing problem (eosinophilic esophagitis). Once the culprit (cow dairy) was found, I went vegan. My VO2Max now puts me at about 53 or so, while my real age is 68! Couldn't have done it without going vegan. No guilt now about eating dead critters, because I don't! NO regrets whatsoever--except that I learned of a way to be planet friendly so late in life.
It saves me from feeling like a POS for eating animals. It's also great not feeling like a hypocrite 24/7. The number of people who jump on comments of any video of an animal talking about how much they love animals but go and eat meat later that day, continues to disgust me. How can people be that out of touch with their own hypocrisy. They don't love animals! You can't love a thing and then support its mistreatment & unalivement.
Many people will not give up on eating meat for protein including myself...but I do try to eat less meat by consuming vegan products, but some of them I just don't like the taste of. So I'm gonna say precision fermentation sources of proteins for the animals.
I went plant based once I truly let in what was happening to animals in our current system. It wasn't for health because I still eat a lot of "junk" food. The environment was secondary but it's just as important. One of the things I love about it is getting really creative in the kitchen. I can look at most recipes and now easily make it plant based and delicious. It isn't nearly as hard as it might seem as long as you have basic cooking skills.
I am unable to get enough iron from plant based food even with pills. But, I only eat a minimum of actual meat 3 times a week. To transition, improve the quality of your meat (organic) and reduce the ounces / serving (say 16 to 8, then 6 then, what nutritionalists recommend, 4 ounces), add vegetables, mushrooms, beans, etc, perhaps blend them into the sauce. Add a vegetable and/o fruit serving to each meal, mixed vegetables, sliced tomatoes, etc. Add a vegetarian and vegan meal per week. You'd be surprised how many vegan meals you already eat with out going "plant based" . Like peanut butter and jelly sandwich, beer. Look for vegan swaps, use coconut oil instead of butter, or cream,. Try 2-3 vegan or vegetarian swaps per week. Like soy or nut milk instead of cow milk. (Maybe strt with organic). All whole foods (not chemically processed) have protein, but less protein per calories. All animal food has much more fat than plant based, so do not forget to add nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut, fats as you progress. So, you will end up eating more food volume. It's ok, The animal products eat many times more plant food than they supply. And it saves water. Giving up 1 pound of beef, is enough for 6 months of 10 minute showers. Organic meat is more expensive, but the chenicals, medications, hormones, antibiotics, growth hormones, toxic levels of bleach and ammonia involved in "normal" animal product production isn't good for you. Most people notice improved health. If you are sick, most doctors recommend going organic. (Go organic is stages.)
Plant-based dietary changes are win-win-win in so many ways, for humans and animals. Animals have suffered for thousands of years needlessly. Humans are suffering now needlessly when there are solutions that can still employ humans. I didn't think I could stop eating diary/eggs (already vegetarian) but after learning more about what happens to chickens and cows, it was an easy switch.
I’ve been fully plant based for over 10 years. I’m now 61, and very healthy. My doctor loves my numbers! But health benefits aside, my decision was made primarily on the environmental impact of eating meat.
My cholesterol had been high. I cut out 90% of my normal meat intake (which was not a lot) and replaced it with plant based home-cooked meals. In 2 months, my cholesterol dropped by 20%, and I was not even vegan. Whole plant foods, not processed or ready to eat take-out foods, that you buy from supermarkets are always cheaper than meat.
When it comes to meat consumption we really lost the plot. The problem is not only that we eat meat at all but most of us eat meat two or three times a day. That's insane. I'm german-italian and both countries proud themselves to have this weird meat-history but honestly daily meat is something that's only available since the 80-ies at the most - basically since the emergence of super markets everywhere. Even farmers here used to eat meat only once a week not so long ago..
The 1970's kinda time seems to be when factory farming took off and it has grown exponentially since. There's a very interesting talk about the history of meat eating in places like the USA, Japan. Despite (sadly!) the poor audio quality I still strongly recommend it. It's so rich and a very accessible talk Meat eating, "Whiteness" and Black Liberation by Christopher Sebastian
Finally! Someone talking about our food choices affecting climate...Yes fossil fuels are a huge factor but this is the elephant in the room no one wants to touch. God forbid they should give up their meat at the expense of the lives that were as much able to suffer as we are. For hope. For compassion. For a kinder and more restored planet and Mother.
This information SO needs to get out into the mainstream and all of our governments (politicians) need to endorse it and turn away from the meat and dairy lobbyists. Soon, it will be too late.
Vegan for 3 years and when I switched to the beans & greens version of this diet (for my calcium needs), my grey hair started changing back to my normal hair colour. i suspect it is the beans that are responsible for this.
mostly whole food plant based diet for 4/5 years. hormonal issues got better, heartburn/indigestion healed due to different plant foods eating, got more energy, got fibroids under control and not getting much bigger, reduced perimenopausal symptoms and so much more. I started plant based diet for my health but I would never going back to eat meat again after watching the documentaries of animal farm industry.
In April 2025 I will be vegan for 7 years. It's the best decision that I've ever made! No more fatty liver disease, high cholesterol, insomnia, fatigue and constipation.
Respect to the vegans. But the most important stat here is that 15% of greenhouse emissions come from animal farming. What do you propose we do about the other 85%??
Have to make the change? I like Tiny Habits for small and fast changes that have a big impact. I stopped eating meat beginning of this year, and that's a lot for someone who used to love cooking steaks, cooking in restaurants. The problem for me is the factory farms that treat animals so badly are abstract. Hard to see. What helped me is how much healthier I feel without meat and dairy. Lentils, lots of veggies whole foods are key. I am going to work on tis treaty here in Seattle.
Whole plant foods for 14 years. My Boy is 3 years young and eats exclusively whole plants. Girlfriend 5 years. Three reasons -Personal health and happiness -Animals and peace -Planet Earth, clean Water and Nature
Been veg mostly vegan since the late 80s, and it's MUCH cheaper, so please stop pushing the lie that it's more expensive. Most of us are NOT privileged middle class who shop only at high end specialty shops for pre-made meals because we're just so busy with Pilates and washing the Tesla!
Yes 👍 I’m in my late 60’s and have been a vegan for more than 35 years. I did it to boycott extreme cruelty to farmed animals and now it’s action for the environment on our beautiful planet
It's actually bad for the environment. Modern ag relies completely on unsuatainable GMOs, pesticides, removal of native flora and fauna, and machinery that is deeply damaging to soil. Veganism is a fad
@JoyrajGhosh-t1f BC in our religion god premised us to eat meat and dairy , there is wisdom in everything for exampl our brain needs amino acids that derive from dairy and meat protein ,that doesn't exist in planet protein ........ ,am not saying vegan is bad but at least I know more about it now , hopefully we find a middle ground .

Veganism is: A stance against animal cruelty & exploitation, prevents climate change and pollution, Benefits human health (Cardiovascular, nutritional, prevention of Zooanotic diseases) & benefits third world and indigenous people. So many reasons to try. Thank you.
I am 82 and take no meds. I have been on plant based diet for 12 years. Most people think poor health in your senior years is normal but would never consider eating a plant based diet for their health or to save the habitat for humanity.
The easiest way to get started in a way that 1, doesn’t require giving up meat dairy or eggs at any meal and 2, can have a significant impact is by “turning your plate inside out”. When most people in the developed world are planning a meal the first question asked is whether it is going to be a beef, chicken, pork or fish in the center of the plate with a large enough serving to be filling by itself. Only then does the planning turn to what “sides” are going to be sit on the edges of the plate. Maybe a serving of rice or potatoes, and then maybe a bit of broccoli or peas, but in amounts large enough to be filling and satisfying on their own. So turning your plate Inside Out means the first question asked is what filling starchy food like rice, beans, potatoes, pasta, etc is going to at the center of your plate in a large enough serving to be filling. Then what non-starchy vegetable (greens, carrots, fresh peas, squash). Only then is it determined what small side of meat will accompany the main items. This doesn’t have to be limited to a literal plate. It could be a big pot of bean soup flavored with a slice or two of bacon. Or pasta sauce with 100 g of ground beef to augment the lentils and/or beans and chopped nuts like walnuts that provide the majority of the calories and protein of the sauce. Once plant foods take center stage and people become familiar with how satisfying and flavorful plant based foods can be, it isn’t hard to just deliberately leave out the meat for a few meals, or skip it even it was planned but cooking time is short. BTW, this is nothing new. Before factory farming made meat, dairy and eggs so cheap that even the poor can afford to fill up on them, meat as a side was the norm for the average person. Only the wealthy could afford to make meat the center of their meals.
Went vegetarian in 2011. Did some reading to make sure I could be healthy & went vegan in 2012. Best decision I ever made and as others have said, I only wish I had done way earlier. I'm 60 years old now and no health issues. I went vegan for the animals but then found out about all the environmental and health benefits that come along with it. It's a win, win, win. There're so many great vegan websites with great recipes. Just try some easy recipes first and you'll be amazed at how good the food is. Wishing all living beings peace.
Hi, thanks so much for providing this conversation and amazing facts/stats! I have always cared about the environment, so when I decided to go vegan for my health and animal welfare, it all came together beautifully. 🙏💞 I have been vegan for nearly 4 years now and I only wish I had done it sooner! ❤❤💚🌱✌️
I have been voting with my plate since I was 17 and living on my own... choosing to always pay at least 2x´s as much for my food, which was organic and vegan. I am now 55 and seeing that people are still not understanding the crisis we are in just makes me sad. I started out wanting to change the world and only lately have realized I can only change how I effect the world ;P Leaving NO footprints behind is the best thing we can do for our mother earth...
The biggest impact you can have on your carbon footprint is to stop participating in the capitalist system. Consider what percentage of your 'buying dollar' goes to supporting people who make more money in a year than you will make in your lifetime.
I'm not against plant-based at all, but will we them quality produce without the dangerous chemicals that's also making us ill? Will this also be mass production of unhealthy grains, etc? Really, how does this benefit EVERYONE, including the homeless people?
Not if we depend on Cargill's methods of soybean cultivation! Just when I made friends with tofu to avoid CAFO meat, now I have distrust of soy products.

Hey! Did you meet Tad (or Tadpole) on the PCT?

Not that I recall. I started April 27 and finished August 12.
What supplements do you have to take to make up for the nutrition deficiencies of a vegan diet? B12 for a start.
@wandayonder9772 Most people are low on B12, it's not a vegan checkmate. It's found in tons of fortified foods, as a bonus.

Soooo judgemental
Going plant based is a win. win. win, win!

Also I don't mean at all to downplay your own experience cause that also does happen for some people. Fantastic news - I'm so pleased for you!! 🎉

100%. This is a myth. Being vegan can be cheaper than being nonvegan. There's a few studies on this.

Definitely plant based diets are the future. For the animals, for the health, for the environment.

The plant based treaty is helping motivate us to take a crucial action that needs to be spread worldwide. People need to go vegan and make this world a better place for all of us. We deserve to love and be loved and killing our planet and everyone on it is just madness. Enough is enough. Time for positive changes for all. Thanks for this informative video 🙏🏼✊
Yes I agree this is a fantastic video!
I'm 46 and haven't eaten animals for half my life. Still as healthy as I was in my 20s.

8 Years Vegan !!! Best Decision 16:54 !!!! Thank you for spreading awareness !!
It's so rich and a very accessible talk
Meat eating, "Whiteness" and Black Liberation by Christopher Sebastian
Thank you for switching out what you have so far and replaced with plants! 💚
Whole plant foods for 14 years. My Boy is 3 years young and eats exclusively whole plants. Girlfriend 5 years.
Three reasons
-Personal health and happiness
-Animals and peace
-Planet Earth, clean Water and Nature
Vegetable based meals can be very delicious and nutritious. It will be great if they are cheaper in the restaurant!
They often are cheaper in restaurants but restaurants in general are more expensive now
Been veg mostly vegan since the late 80s, and it's MUCH cheaper, so please stop pushing the lie that it's more expensive.
Most of us are NOT privileged middle class who shop only at high end specialty shops for pre-made meals because we're just so busy with Pilates and washing the Tesla!
@@greenfyre "washing thr Tesla" 😆
But also true, other vegans I know are also working class or poor
Yes 👍 I’m in my late 60’s and have been a vegan for more than 35 years. I did it to boycott extreme cruelty to farmed animals and now it’s action for the environment on our beautiful planet
This is the first I understand about veganism right am impressed
It's actually bad for the environment. Modern ag relies completely on unsuatainable GMOs, pesticides, removal of native flora and fauna, and machinery that is deeply damaging to soil. Veganism is a fad
@JoyrajGhosh-t1f BC in our religion god premised us to eat meat and dairy , there is wisdom in everything for exampl our brain needs amino acids that derive from dairy and meat protein ,that doesn't exist in planet protein ........ ,am not saying vegan is bad but at least I know more about it now , hopefully we find a middle ground .
@@mareli6256 I appreciate your sentiment but I'd like to know why you believe that there are essential amino acids missing from plant-based diets.
@@jayeshpatel9854 it's science that says so for exampl eggs have amino acids but chickpeas don't ,that's as far as I know if there is any update in reaserch I really don't know 😽
@@mareli6256no. this is a common myth. Vegan charity Viva! has good resources on nutrition for vegans. We get all our amino acids from plants
Vegan since 8+ years. One of the best decisions I made. Just had blood tested, all numbers are excellent 👌 😊
I have been vegan 8 years and the transition was easy and my meals taste better. Cooking was an adventure.
So very accurate. Thank you for this.
It is great that you are getting this information out there.
Potatoes, legumes, and grains are some of the most nutrition and ARE THE MOST COST EFFECTIVE.
Good show but unfortunately it will take a long time for people to get educated on the matter. Thanks for this little step forward.
We don't have a long time. Human extinction is visible on the horizon.
7 years vegan and loving it!
Vegan for 9 years now. Best decision I’ve ever made. ❤
Vegan family here. Happier and healthier than ever ❤
much respect for being vegan and caring for the animals that are forced to suffer in domestication.
Thank you for sharing, subscribed ...
Very good piece.
Vastly wholefood plantbased vegan for 17 years at 46 and feelin amazing.
I have been voting with my plate since I was 17 and living on my own... choosing to always pay at least 2x´s as much for my food, which was organic and vegan. I am now 55 and seeing that people are still not understanding the crisis we are in just makes me sad. I started out wanting to change the world and only lately have realized I can only change how I effect the world ;P
Leaving NO footprints behind is the best thing we can do for our mother earth...
The biggest impact you can have on your carbon footprint is to stop participating in the capitalist system. Consider what percentage of your 'buying dollar' goes to supporting people who make more money in a year than you will make in your lifetime.
This is the take baby. 🎉 love this new channel outlook for you guys. Congratulations!
I'm not against plant-based at all, but will we them quality produce without the dangerous chemicals that's also making us ill? Will this also be mass production of unhealthy grains, etc? Really, how does this benefit EVERYONE, including the homeless people?
veganism is the solution, period.
I'm in Australia and have been vegetarian since I was 12 and vegan for 6 years. It's hard to know things to do so thanks for ideas 🙏🏻
Not if we depend on Cargill's methods of soybean cultivation!
Just when I made friends with tofu to avoid CAFO meat, now I have distrust of soy products.
Hey there everyone a Especially the ones behind this Episode I have never seen like this before putting together such amazing video content that really makes the human race look like this kind of together for each other it’s amazing 🤩 hope the best luck to everyone involved with the project
