First time I ever saw one with my own eyes, it was guarding a deer carcass with it's massive wings. I had to pull over down the road a bit, get out and stare back because I wasn't sure I actually saw what I was seeing. It was the most beautiful animal I had ever seen in all my life! When a predator bird folds its wings over its prey, it's called mantling. They're basically hiding it from prying eyes, looking for a free meal. We have hawks here in Florida and I've seen them doing this many times. Often I'd see a whole bunch of feathers on a lawn, thinking a cat caught a bird. But, it's from predator birds plucking feathers from their catch. Seeing a Coopers Hawk take a dove or pigeon mid flight is a sight!! The hawk comes in high speed and grabs its prey with an explosion of feathers filling the air!
      It's pretty awesome!!

@@johngore7744 that's true. Here's an interesting little bit of eagle knowledge. When you see a commercial with an eagle vocalizing, it sounds pretty majestic. It's because they overdub the sound of a Red Tailed Hawk. The bald eagle makes a chuckling sound more like a turkey or chicken. It doesn't fit right for such a beautiful bird, so Hollywood fixed it!! Did you know bald eagles have eyes that are 8 times sharper than ours?! They could literally see a rabbit from 3.2km (2 miles) away and spot fish underwater!
Their feet even have a grip that’s 10 times stronger than ours! This means they could lift a human baby or 24 billiard balls!
Bald eagles also build the largest nests than any bird. They can be up to 4 meters (13 feet) deep, 2.5 meters (8 feet) wide, and weigh up to 1 ton. They use the same nest for years and add new material every year. Some nests have been used for over 35 years!

@@Queenofswords111 I've lived in this suburban area for a long time,....I've never seen a bald eagle, anywhere. We sometimes have barn owls & hawks, but they are also rare sightings. The surrounding areas are being gobbled up by runaway housing construction, currently at a fever pitch. Every little wooded grove, is gone. Within the last 2 years, deer are now roaming our streets. Walking between suburban housing, in alleys, on roads and streets. My city has destroyed every square inch of natural habitat. Eagles may have been around, but they managed to keep hidden. They have no place to live and hide, presently. I recently read bald eagles are making a "come back",....maybe they are more closely being watched and protected.

@@Queenofswords111 Nobody is saying they shouldn't be there. It's just a comment on what kind of environment they are willing to tolerate.

I live in one of the few states where bald eagles live all year round (Washington State)and I’m seeing them daily now, can’t ask for anything more beautiful than that ❤🦅❤
