I'm a truck driver in the UK, and I've seen 1 of these in flight in the mountainous regions of Scotland, it was frightenly huge as it soured over our heads about 10 feet above us, it was an awesome sight to see, they are a very rare sight to see them flying out in the wild in our country, and I feel very privalaged to have seen 1, love your video mate
Thanks for posting. One day I came home from work, and there was a golden eagle standing on my balcony. It just stood there for a while and then flew away. It was amazing.
So beautiful. I think something like this used to fly over my neighborhood years ago. It was so huge I was afraid to go outside sometimes. I live near a wildlife reserve so I guess it got out.
Excellent video. Much more informative than others - I like how everything is evenly paced, and much info given out in a calm, measured way. Beautiful shots of this stunning bird - especially close ups of the head.
Zoltar flies frequently. My dad isn't lazy about caring for his birds and he doesn't just have them sitting in a cage for show and tell like a parakeet. They all fly and are well cared for. His birds receive regular medical attention and are much more likely to survive in his care than in the wild. Listen to the video. He says Zoltar has been severely ill a few times and brought back to health through treatment that he would've never had in the wild.
Big male in excellent condition. This gentleman is a true credit to eagle falconry worldwide. Nice video with unbiased and straightforward, honest answers. Thanks for sharing. (Id like to know his hunting weight as a well-matured passage?)
Thanks for this fascinating, informative look at an amazing bird. My 6 year old son is doing a school report on Golden Eagles and he liked this video too.
Very cool vid, man. Your dad seems like a very nice fellow and knows his stuff. He also takes very good care of that GE because his plumage is in pristine condition, and for a "fat bird" its demeanor is actually pretty good. He's absolutely right when he says nothing messes with the golden eagle except for man. Good stuff.
Purportedly up to 2100 lbs per square inch at the tips of the talons (Berkut Golden Eagle). Confirmed measurements have ranged from 450psi - 750-psi (North American Golden Eagle). Talons capable of up to 3" of penetration. Ratcheting system in their talons do not require muscle-contraction - raptors must *decide* to let go. Lifespan commensurate with human beings, (as much as 50 - 60 yrs of age). Shorter lifespans attributable to human persecution. Oldest known captive female Golden Eagle was 46yrs old. Best, Jo
That is a fairly large male, I would easily mistake him for a daphanea or Kamchatka eagle. Probably one of the most beautiful goldens I've seen. Great video!
You can see one of my dad's birds flying in my video titled- "Harris Hawk In New Mexico". As my dad mentions in this video, raptors do not eat every day. They need to digest what they've eaten which they do at home in the safety of a very large aviary that my dad monitors and maintains very well. He's standing in just one part of the aviary in this video.
Great stuff, Bryan. Your dad seems like a really cool fellow and knows his stuff. The way he handled the bird slowly and carefully with lots of respect is indicative of his care and understanding of it's condition. The fact that it was "fat" and hadn't been handled for a while made him a little extra slow and careful picking Zoltar up. Great name, BTW!:) But the bird got up on his hand and showed no signs of worrisome stress. And what a healthy looking male! And I noticed how Zoltar got a bit heavy at the end there where your dad had to support his handling arm with his other arm! But I will disagree with one thing he said (and with all due respect) and that is, while the golden eagle doesn't have any specific predatory threat to it and he's right that nothing messes with a golden eagle, there certainly are some animals of course that could take it especially if it's on the ground and too full to get airborne, which was the scenario that you guys had outlined. Naturally a black bear or any other type of bear or a mountain lion could easily overwhelm a GE should it find itself in that unfortunate position. Of course these animals don't do out of their way to "hunt" golden eagles, but they could be big threats given the right circumstances. Otherwise, great stuff and thanks for the awesome video! Cheers.
How smart are them? I assume they are quite intelligent a bit since they can be trained. And do they develop an affection to their trainers/owners like a mammal would?
Now I need to fantasized about owning a female Golden Eagle then magically turned into a female and hugged her, too bad her hugged can kill! 700+ psi lol. But damn though they really look so nice, so majestic, you wanna just hug them or something lol.
The Golden Eagle has better chances of survival North of the border and in other parts of the world. Reports say Mexico has about 200 couples Left in the country alone plus those in captivity. This is due to populace. The Golden Eagle has its legend in Aztecs from Mezoamerica culture. (great legend). You can still witness The Golden Eagle devour a full grown rattle snake today. Amazing The Mexican Emblem today
A pelican came and sat directly opposite me (two feet away) in Florida - it was like meeting a very dignified human being - I didn't feel scared but I did feel very priveleged
Harpy Eagles are generally larger and more powerful than Golden or even Bald Eagles. As they are adapted to hunt tropical forests their wingspan is generally smaller, but the birds themselves are heavier and stronger.
Golden Eagle is the class of Booted Eagles...these eagles are the most powerfull, hunting goats, deer, monkeys, fox and sheep... They have Stronger legs and talons. Bald Eagles legs and talons are built for catching fish, and thats mostly what bald eagles eat. Just like the Stellers Sea Eagle which is the heaviest eagle of them all...The heaviest Eagle ever on record wast a wild Golden Eagle weighing in over 12kg thats over 30 pounds, 2 times as big as the average Steller and Monkey Eagles
Seems to me that these guys aren't too friendly or social like ducks would be, so how on earth do you tame one in the first place, and how do you make sure it won't peck your eyes out when it's having a bad day?
I had the great, good honour to meet this man and this bird and was told they are basically never "tame". They become acclimated to humans and are calmer with ones they know, but we aren't prey, so they don't just randomly lash out. Caution, respect, reading body language, all go a long way in dealing with birds.
Golden Eagles average dive speed is faster than a peregrines and the Eagle can fly 80 mph horizontally... its a very bad ass bird..Its not a water bird like the Bald Eagle
@rosson1983 Actually I'm in the sport and birds aren't considered pets, they are a hunting partner, you are the dog (who flushes game) and they are the rifle.
The best place for info on becoming a falconer is by searching for the NAFEX forums. Keep in mind THEY ARE NOT "PETS". Falconry and Birds Of Prey are a full time commitment to maintaining the animal's health and well being.
Does he go to a raptor specialized vet? I'm imagining the faces at my local vet clinic if I suddenly brought in my full grown Golden Eagle. O.O Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
I've only seen 3 in all my 58 years in southern California. They are very special .

He's such a beautiful bird. Eagles and other birds of prey have always been my favorite kind of bird.
Awesome looking eagle! Majestic!

He's gorgeous!!!!
i like how the bird is kinda listening to your conversation, looking at a person thats speaking and make some expressions :D
Informative and refreshingly not patronising and very respectful to what he's handling. Great stuff!!
That is either a really big male goldie, or a really small man. Either way, as beautiful a golden eagle as I have ever seen one.
He's beautiful! Sleek and buff at the same time.
What a wonderful bird that is it looks so big to even for a male I alwasy like this kind off birds.
Surprisingly well done. To the point info.

"Zoltar the Magnificent", oh, what a perfect name for that beautiful Golden Eagle. OSH :-)
So beautiful. I think something like this used to fly over my neighborhood years ago. It was so huge I was afraid to go outside sometimes. I live near a wildlife reserve so I guess it got out.

I want to do this for a living--taking care of golden eagles. I don't care about the pay, as long as I make enough to live.
So cute & majesty!
Gorgeous bird
Many thanks for a great video. It is very informative. I learned a lot.

This animal demands your respect.
Golden Eagle kick ass man!
Nice bro👌👌
I'm 5'2, and that bird looks almost as tall as I am. I have so much respect for these birds but standing next to one would scare me senseless xD
How smart are them? I assume they are quite intelligent a bit since they can be trained.
And do they develop an affection to their trainers/owners like a mammal would?
lol I like this video, thank you Mr. Rogers for uploading such things in TH-cam ;)
Now I need to fantasized about owning a female Golden Eagle then magically turned into a female and hugged her, too bad her hugged can kill! 700+ psi lol. But damn though they really look so nice, so majestic, you wanna just hug them or something lol.

some in uk live in the wild to over 30 yrs
I would love to become a falconer but I've heard that it is quite expensive and I don't have very much money right now. :(
Dude u got a cool dad
What are we talking in terms of wingspan?
Seems to me that these guys aren't too friendly or social like ducks would be, so how on earth do you tame one in the first place, and how do you make sure it won't peck your eyes out when it's having a bad day?

Awesome
eagles are like Lamborghini of birds
Ill handling and over hyped?
Golden eagles are larger than bald eagles in average height and wingspan, but there isn't much difference in average weight.
He did mention that the Coyote is the biggest animal the Golden Eagle could take down "for falconing purposes".
King Hill: Dale is that you? xD
King of the sky 100%
Living dinosaur.
As in he could seppuku you with his talons? ;)
I thought it's illegal to even touch a feather of a golden eagle
Golden Eagles average dive speed is faster than a peregrines and the Eagle can fly 80 mph horizontally... its a very bad ass bird..Its not a water bird like the Bald Eagle
What about a wolf, black bear, brown bear, badger would they get attacked
Wasn't Zoltar also from Starcraft?
what is bigger good sir? the bald eagle or the golden eagle?
pretty raptor
what song was playing in the beginning?
is that you interviewing? that was a good job
sorry, i heard at the end, "dad" lol, nice vid
@rosson1983 Actually I'm in the sport and birds aren't considered pets, they are a hunting partner, you are the dog (who flushes game) and they are the rifle.
I have a question.
If Golden Eagles really prey on Coyotes how do they kill them?
This pretty much covers it th-cam.com/video/TItHEUOXCeI/w-d-xo.html
