Dr. Maria Bogdan is a distinguished media theorist and social scientist, deeply engaged in examining media representation and racism. Her research explores social media and social movements, with a particular emphasis on Roma movements. She earned her PhD from the Film, Media, and Culture Theory Doctoral Program at the Doctoral School of Philosophy of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, presenting her thesis on the media representation of Roma in Hungary, aptly titled "The Visible Stranger."
As a scholar, Dr. Bogdan is actively involved with the Romani Studies Department at the Central European University and is one of the founding editors of the Critical Romani Studies journal. Her academic pursuits are complemented by her background in journalism and film directing, and she continues to contribute to the field as a freelance journalist.
