I'm newly minimizing my apartment, and it's actually fun and it brings out the creative side of me. My apartment is small, so I'm finding different ways to "store" my kitchen items. My drawers have been overflowing a little, but it's manageable. I'm in the process of finding multiple uses for certain items. I like how Joshua has his cabinets also. My food pantry is less desirable, but it's a small cabinet, so I'm finding unique ways to store things in my cabinet. It's a journey and a process, but it really is liberating to find that you have more time. Everything has it's own space, and your not tearing the house apart trying to find that certain item, because it's right where it's supposed to be. Laundry doesn't take much time either, because your not doing load after load. It's all simplified. Thank you so much for your help Joshua and family, and God Bless to you all! ❤
I'm a shopaholic and I'm having to declutter now because there's no space in my flat. Recently my boyfriend passed away and I have had to sort out his stuff. It really made me think, why am I collecting all of this stuff when I can't take it with me when I die? So I'm doing a low buy month I'll just buy groceries and necessities. I'm hoping to extend this month too. I'm just doing a month first because it feels more manageable. It's hard because I do get withdrawals from not shopping its really like a drug. But I want to change.
My journey to becoming minimalist started 7 years ago and my current struggle is clear counters. I can clear them but then the stuff comes back in no time! Still a work in progress.
That’s ok - I also follow the minimal mom and she says this happens so you just keep up with it but it won’t be as bad as the first time you did a deep declutter. Also look at that it is and think about why?
I wish I had been counting. I bet I’ve taken $3000 worth of stuff to the Salvation Army this year. That doesn’t count stuff I’ve sold and given to family members. I’m still working on getting rid of more stuff. I’m hoping to find more Christmas items to let go of when I get stuff out this year. I would like to get down to having everything fit in one tote. Speaking of Christmas, as I was cleaning out my closet the other day, I came across two good sized Christmas pictures I had stored on a top shelf covered with towels. I knew I had a large picture stored up there and I guess I thought that’s what it was until I pulled it down and found the two Christmas ones along with the one I knew was there. Lol!
@@ritadyer9295 Hi, just to make it quite clear, i donated over 3,000 items. I did not sell them. The cost would of been a lot more...lol... I believe by donating im helping everyone and my sanity. xx
Mr Joshua. Thank you for your wonderful cultural channel. As I told before I am Arabic lady subscriber to several British and American TH-cam channels. We are as foreigners subscribers as overseas students want to increase our cultural level and improve our English as well . I just read key points about minimalism it’s started in mid 20 th century art movement, characterised by use of simple form . Minimalism is known in visual arts , music . Began in New York City in late 1960s . Characterized by extreme simplicity of form , literal , objective approach. Minimalism is important because can lead to more organized and clutter free life . Started by Russian painter Kasimir Malevich of black square on white ground . We can practice minimalism by de cluttering as we go . As I read there easy rules to own less stuff useful ideas such as make rule for every item . Limited storage . Clear floor and flat surface . Designate home for everything. Regular de cluttering sessions. Reduce your desire for more . Change your habits .
I just decluttered more today, feels so good. Crazy how easy it is for everything to build back up again. I own so little and yet it's still more than I'd like. But, I want the ease of owning the amount I do. I'd love to try ultra minimalism even just for a month though. It'd feel soooo freeing.
Thank you for your inspiration. I declutter daily now! It’s a new perspective that keeps me from thrift stores and plant stores. I had a mindset that I had to own them all!
I love your videos I have been on the decluttering train for a couple years and now there is actual space in my lovely home thank you for letting me know it's ok to be done with certain things in my life and enjoy the simpleness of living😊😊
One of the things I realized was I didn’t wear my clothes enough. Even if it was a favorite I had worn it less than ten times. I am trying to get comfortable repeating and not recreating the wheel.
I can’t stand putting anything other than what I’m eating on my kitchen table. Friends and family come in and throw their keys, handbags, etc on my table and it gives me anxiety! I also have friends with mail, bills, and all sorts of random stuff on their tables. I want to fling it all off 😅
@@kjjoanes77 oh I definitely do! I pick everything up and move it and ask over and over to not leave things on the table. People’s bad habits are hard to break I guess 😕
If I own more than one…. 😂 I loove to grow my own food and I have soo many pots it’s bonkers! But still every spring I find myself rundning out of them and growing becomes more complicated so sometimes you need a lot of something to enjoy life ☺️
OK I really need help. I have been struggling with the clean counter rule for years. I will clean everything off and love it and then the next day since I cook every meal from scratch I end up pulling everything back out and it is just so much easier to have it on the counter. I have tried to keep things on my counters and my island will be my workspace but everything tends to get messy. I'm getting older and picking up heavy appliances like my stand mixer or grain mill several times a day doesn't really make sense. What to do?
You do you - convenience is also important. I make coffee daily so will not put away my coffeemaker every day BUT if I had a built in area (with a door) below the upper cupboards to store it (if it had an outlet) I would put it there. Some people call it an appliance garage.
Just try to keep it neat and in a designated space. If you don’t have one, you can get appliance covers. I got a pretty pink one for my toaster and an air fryer I had. I got rid of the air fryer. I found a site on Etsy called Penny’s needful things where I got them. They can custom make things for you if it’s an odd size. Hopefully they are still in business. I have a hard time keeping my counters clear because of family. But I would rather have a family to clean up after than be lonely. I keep my spatulas and large utensils in a container made for them and I have a spice rack out on the counter. Do what works for you and just keep it near.
I agree with most of topics. Yet with the economic situation, what could happen. ???? How to find a balance of healthy preparation and not keeping extra items
It’s a month only buy what you eat or would need to replace because you used it till gone. Such as shampoo or paper towels. Milk chips stuff like and yes the detergent n stuff can last longer than a month. It,s not buying clothes, a bookcase furniture etc.. and u can buy your food fresh each week if you wanted

Yes! I moved into an apartment from the fifties with only one tiny wardrobe for my husband and me. If we hadn’t bought more we would have had to choose between winter coat and boots and everything that goes with really cold weather and summer cloths. We are both minimalists and don’t have clutter but sometimes you just need more…🫣😬
How about always buying things with cash not a creditcard! Then you will always get a zero and don’t have to start by paying a lot to creditcards even if you can afford it! It gives peace of mind if nothing else.
@@juliafisher5844 yes, but it is different to buy and get a bill to pay, credit, than to buy with a debit card. When my debit card account says zero I have no more cash and can’t buy more… But you do not have a bill at the end of the month… To me that is to buy with cash. With the money you have…
@@JoshuaBecker No. It makes sense to me to keep the coffee maker, toaster, blender and food processor on the counter. They are awkward. There’s a chance I would drop them (or strain my back) every time I move them. Frankly, I do not know where I would store them off-counter anyway. If I had room, I’d keep the stand mixer up there, too, but I rarely use it so it’s not a huge deal. Everything has a place and everything should be in its place. For those items I mentioned, that place is on the counter for me.
Personally, I keep my radio and my thermos flasks on the counter, because I use them several times during the day. If you have back issues you are well advised to keep heavy stuff on the counter if you need it a lot. Minimalism is meant to make your life better, not worse. It is meant to help you be yourself, not to follow someone else's rules strictly.
Decades ago, men had a simple approach to the "single item, multiple use" rule, opting for something that could clean their homes, prepare meals, run errands, and provide occasional enjoyment (albeit, with residual guilt).
