Absolutely cannot wait for my copy to show up from PlayAsia. To have all 6 games on one cartridge is just awesome. The music in FF3 brings me right back to the early 90’s. Damn, getting old really sucks.
I'd like to get the physical on switch but walking into a store and buying isn't likely right? I'd double dip with the digital edition on PS4 just for the trophies.
It’s kinda insane that now you can play every game in the final fantasy series up to 12 with the exception of 11 on one console. That’s kinda fantastic imo

I was one of those people posting on SE's social media posts: "When PR on consoles?". So... I'll definitely going to buy them! 1-3 never played them. I'm excited to play them for the first time! 4 I just played the first 5 hours. 5-6 I couldn't beat the final dungeon on either. So this time is PERSONAL 👊! They are the only ones on the main series that I haven't beaten. I'm excited to finally complete my quest! Thank you for your review!
Got FF VI today and it just unlocked about 2 hours ago. It has great quality of life stuff, map, minimap, treasures on map, location item trackers, etc

My issue with random encounters is that I get lost a lot. Like, a lot a lot. And it's frustrating just wanting to move around looking for where you need to go and being interrupted every 5 steps to fight something.
I never really seen that much of a problem to me. But of course I've been doing this for decades so I'm used to it. I actually like the randomness. Makes you want to be more prepared
I played these games to death on GBA (except 3, which never got a GBA port for some reason and I never got around to obtaining the DS version), but never finished any of them. It's going to be so great being able to play through them again, and on the same console as so many of my other favorite games. 5 and 6 were my favorites, and I'm going to enjoy playing them again the most. And this will give me an excuse to finally start playing 7-9, which have been rotting in my Switch's digital library for years. I hope to play X-X2 someday too, but it'll have to be after a 1.5TB or 2TB microSD card can be bought.
I finally played through seven after having it for so many years and it was so worth it. The switch port is great and some of the quality of life changes they added to it really does help speed up the gameplay. The soundtrack is just phenomenal and I can't recommend the game enough. This is without having any sort of prior nostalgia for it
I finally completed my gba advance collection recently although I did get a PAL copy of 4. Still plays well. 3 never got a 2d localisation till the pixel remaster which seems hard to believe but it's true. A 2 tb sd card would be the dream. I just wonder when they'll actually make them.

100%. considering i've already played through most of these games, it's hard to justify playing so damn much. and while there was work put in to making these games what they are, $75 USD for games that are 30+ years old is a bit much.
Hello! Question: For a person who's never played any of these games and who can only play them with the original consoles- which I don't have- would the games being remastered and compiled here be worth the value otherwise? Maybe entertainment factor and duration of gameplay time would be things to consider. Thanks for the replies beforehand. I think my youngest brother would love these games, and would make a good gift if the games are worth the price. 🖖
@@warpedspeed4517 if you have a computer or a smart phone, you can get emulators and roms for all of these games. but, if that's not doable, you really like old school JRPGs, and this version is literally your ONLY option to play them, then i'd say go for it. personally, i'd wait for a sale or something, but who knows when that might be? they ARE really great games, especially final fantasy IV and VI.
im buying these as soon as i get out of work tonight, and i might even pick up the asian physical release someday just for collection purposes. the only real complaint i have is that i wish they gave an option to play in 4:3 ratio instead of zoomed in widescreen, but its not a huge deal. besides that these look amazing, and i cant wait to play 2, 3, and 5 for the first time.

The physical edition exists in EU but it was only sold through the square Enix store and it got sold out in 10 minutes. I was lucky enough to get the collector which is a crazy 300€ price, but I think they are insanely rare
Same with the US. I didn't even notice when they went on sale and lost out completely. But I'll still grab the Asian copy that comes with EN language(s).
My current favourite is FF2 but I'm looking forward to playing FF6 for the first time. Can't believe I haven't played it yet despite owning it for years!
That’s a surprising choice. I like the music, story and characters of II, but only VIII has more broken battle mechanics. I think you’ll like IV, V and VI a lot.

Ya it's 99$ plus tax here in Canada it's a pretty wild price and hard to justify since I'd basically only want to play 6 and 2 but if I could find a physical copy id buy it all but seems like it's limited quantity.
The one good thing about this collection is that even more people will discover V. It's not talked about all that much simply because it it's only been released twice from what I recall. On the Psone and on the GBA. It's always IV and VI which are great, but V helped expand the job system of III. I'm looking forward to II since now with the boosts, the stat progression would make it easier and 3 since this is the only official English version of it in 2d.
It’s one of best games ever made in my opinion. Voted number 2 best FF last year on Yahoo Japan and number 3 on a national channel in Japan in 2021 (33/100 in the best made games ever) That’s incredible that a game that old continues to remain popular above most of the later FF and find new fans. The story and world is amazing but it’s the music that will win you over.
I really wish they had included the original versions of the games as well. It would be great to play the original versions with the original controllers for the switch...
Thanks for the quality review of the Switch version on the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. I bought the bundle for my Steam Deck last December, and have not touched it yet. I wish I had waited for the Switch version as I feel it is the better console for this style of game. In addition, the console features make me feel like I am missing out with the Steam Bundle, and its lack of official experience/currency mods.
You do get the trophies on the steam version which is nice. I would worrie as I’ve heard rumours that the extra editions like the 4X experience option will come to the steam/mobile versions in a later date. The switch is great for these kinds of games as well. Octopath Traveler 2 is also perfect for the switch and deck.
The main issue I have with this collection is that 1 and 2 were already remastered for the PSP and 3 and 4 were remastered in 3d for the DS. If Square Enix included those versions as well, plus remastered 5 and 6 using the 2d3d engine instead I think a lot more people would be willing to pay for the full version.
Pre ordered the physical via playasia using your code back in February. Can't wait to get it. Means I will have every Final Fantasy game available on switch on cartridge. Imported X/X2 and X9 as well a while back. Too much of a backlog to compete with but these are never leaving my collection.
This is a good thing that all those classics games are playable to switch, it’s really the « ultimate » console. I’m just a bit sad that we’re not gonna have octopath traveler style for those gems
I'll be honest. VI is the only one that I'm actually a little bit interested in playing. And I think it was a little lazy what they did with this, which is basically compiled FF I-VI in one package especially after seeing what they did with Dragon Quest III. They made it HD2D. This series could have benefited from something like that.
I love what they did to the visuals and especially music, but I'm disappointed they didn't go far enough with the gameplay. They were purist to a fault there. An example is FF4. The remake on the DS masterfully overhauled everything about the game, added more roleplaying party customization aspects that 4 lacked, reworked and fixed all the plethora of useless skills and commands the game had, and overall made it a MUCH more challenging and engaging game, it's by far the best version of FF4. Here they go back to the roots in terms of visuals which is nice, but in terms of gameplay that's not that nice at all. FF4 on the DS (and the Steam port if played on "hard mode") just slaps every other version. They did improve FF2 which sorely needed it, but then for something like FF6 you have fan-made gameplay overhauls like Brave New World and T-Edition which improve the gameplay a lot too, and I'd rather play those over the pixel remaster of 6. Basically I enjoyed the remaster efforts but I wish they were more ambitious with rebalancing and reworking the games.
Bought it right now on the Nintendo Shop. I also have the Collectors Edition for the Switch, which I will sale in Future for a higher price. So i‘ll enjoy this journey. Start is today, the end (finishing VI), well maybe in 2025 😅

I played IV and VI on my phone a while back. They're really good, but lordy they're overpriced. For what they're doing people are only going to get the ones they care about which they could easily sell all of them if they lowered the price. Favorite is IV. Great characters caught up in a melodramatic story. Challenging enough, and you figure out new things about the enemies weaknesses while not feeling entirely linear.
I agree with you guys on the price being on the high side. However, I'm not really surprised, as I attribute it to the fact SE has had flop after flop after flop in the last year or so. They've shutdown a lot of live service games, and they know people will buy this (I know I am despite not liking the price.), people love these games. Easy money, and they need a success.
I agree it’s a bit on the high side, if it were the Game Boy Advance versions with all the extra content I wouldn’t of mind paying the $75 for them all.
The price is definitely insane. But i do think I'll consider them on a really good sale. Having all the final fantasys 12 and down on my switch will definitely be an amazing feeling though.
People complain about first party switch games not going on sale. Square Enix has been doing this for years! I’d have to wait for at least 50% off and even then probably won’t. I have most of them on iOS already. Still they look lovely ❤
I really really want to buy this as a collector item, but what bothers me is that these pixel remasters are not the most definitive edition of the games, lots of additional content in re-releases are absent and I don’t know why the don’t use the psp or advance versions as foundation for the remaster. It’s like releasing the Mass Effect trilogy as remasters but completely cut all the dlc from the three games. I probably buy it at some point but this is the one big obstacle on keeping me buy this.
I’ve never played FF games so I purchased FF 1 to test it out, but you make it sounds hard not to like the bundle. If I like 1, I’ll buy the bundle. Even if I have to technically pay for 1 again.

Ik people think it's a lot of money but you're basically getting 6 retro games for the price of 1 new Gen one. All of them (from what I've heard have great stories) are worth it imo. Appreciate this review. I definitely agree re: the "worth it" section. I've personally been struggling with whether or not to buy the collection, as I haven't actually played most of the games and am sure I'd enjoy them, but man... that price! I think what I've decided to do is stick the bundled version on my wishlist and wait for the inevitable sale. It's not like I have a shortage of other games to play anyway, haha. Onto the wishlist it goes!
This was a quite pleasant duo review. The last one I saw was a bit chaotic and all over the place. Definitely an improvement! With that said, I might just buy FFVI in the future, since it's so highly regarded by fans. It's a shame they didn't go the HD-2D route.
personally I understand why people don't think the price is good but to be honest I think the value is pretty much perfect to be honest. if it was just plain old ports then I think £30-£40 would be about right for these but considering that these games are effectively faithful reamkes rather than remasters really sells it for me. there's just so so much work put into this and honestly I don't think we could have asked for a better collection. I know you guys think that HD-2D would be better for these games but personally I feel this is the perfect look for keeping things faithful
I know Lunar Silver Star Story has nothing to do with Square Enix but that game and its sequel would easily get my money were they remastered. Loved those rpgs.
I love all these games. I’ve played all of them at least once. And although I agree that the value/hour is high…. I don’t plan to pay $70+ for the collection. That is too high. I would love a physical of this as well. Too bad.
The only thing I miss is the achievements that were on the pc version, otherwise I love this collection, now I'm able to play ff games from 1 to 12 on the switch and I love it😊
I just don’t understand why they couldn’t just give us the Gameboy Advance versions of these games. FF 6 is still the best Final Fantasy Game in the series. This bundle is still good, but could of been better if it was the Gameboy Advance versions with the extra content included.
I gave a try to FF VI a lot of time ago, but I never had the chance to get my copy for SNES and go far in the game. Got my copy a couple of days ago and it is overwhelming.
The saving grace of this collection is that you can buy each game individually instead of being forced to buy the entire collection. I personally only want 6 and 5. Because I’ve beaten the other games a few times already

Great video. Can't wait to play them all. That being said. With this coming out and Tactics Ogre remake. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE that FFT: WotL isn't getting a remake using the same engine as Octopath / Bravely. Just announce it already.
FF6 was probably the biggest influence on my young gaming experience. I love that game so much. All the characters are so well written and have a lot of depth to them. Having said that I agree. The pricing is off. $17 for one game, $74 for all of them... just seems like a lot...
Im in the middle of saving up for a game (Megaman Battle Network) but so many good ones are coming out one after another! My decision making is being tested hard!
Besides being completely overpriced the games are good. Even if I do wish they were more of remakes and less pixel halfassery. But the music is fucking amazing and reminds me on how priceless it is.
I’m definitely late with this, but it seems tough to justify paying so much when the older games are free to emulate. Even so, I still find myself thinking the physical may be worth picking up on a deep sale if it ever comes up for the nostalgia
Considering it's $75 for all of them together, I recommend doing that, as buying them seperately, you pay about $93. I purchased the physical edition for the Switch.
Isn't the font too small/thin for the handheld mode ? Also did they fix the judder scroll ? It happens when you walk diagonally, it was very noticeable on the DQ Collection too and PC users already pointed it out for those games too.

FF6 is genuinely an amazing game and I will likely pick that one up. I have them all but I could do another play through on switch.

Thanks for the quality review of the Switch version on the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. I bought the bundle for my Steam Deck last December, and have not touched it yet. I wish I had waited for the Switch version as I feel it is the better console for this style of game. In addition, the console features make me feel like I am missing out with the Steam Bundle, and its lack of official experience/currency mods.
You do get the trophies on the steam version which is nice. I would worrie as I’ve heard rumours that the extra editions like the 4X experience option will come to the steam/mobile versions in a later date.
The switch is great for these kinds of games as well. Octopath Traveler 2 is also perfect for the switch and deck.

The main issue I have with this collection is that 1 and 2 were already remastered for the PSP and 3 and 4 were remastered in 3d for the DS. If Square Enix included those versions as well, plus remastered 5 and 6 using the 2d3d engine instead I think a lot more people would be willing to pay for the full version.
Pre ordered the physical via playasia using your code back in February. Can't wait to get it. Means I will have every Final Fantasy game available on switch on cartridge. Imported X/X2 and X9 as well a while back.
Too much of a backlog to compete with but these are never leaving my collection.
Will it work on my American switch? I've never ordered from playasia, but I really want a physical copy.
@@hoofyrider yeah will work fine. The Switch itself is not region locked at all, so will work out of the box.

This is a good thing that all those classics games are playable to switch, it’s really the « ultimate » console.
I’m just a bit sad that we’re not gonna have octopath traveler style for those gems
I'll be honest. VI is the only one that I'm actually a little bit interested in playing. And I think it was a little lazy what they did with this, which is basically compiled FF I-VI in one package especially after seeing what they did with Dragon Quest III. They made it HD2D. This series could have benefited from something like that.
I love what they did to the visuals and especially music, but I'm disappointed they didn't go far enough with the gameplay. They were purist to a fault there.
An example is FF4. The remake on the DS masterfully overhauled everything about the game, added more roleplaying party customization aspects that 4 lacked, reworked and fixed all the plethora of useless skills and commands the game had, and overall made it a MUCH more challenging and engaging game, it's by far the best version of FF4.
Here they go back to the roots in terms of visuals which is nice, but in terms of gameplay that's not that nice at all. FF4 on the DS (and the Steam port if played on "hard mode") just slaps every other version.
They did improve FF2 which sorely needed it, but then for something like FF6 you have fan-made gameplay overhauls like Brave New World and T-Edition which improve the gameplay a lot too, and I'd rather play those over the pixel remaster of 6.
Basically I enjoyed the remaster efforts but I wish they were more ambitious with rebalancing and reworking the games.
Bought it right now on the Nintendo Shop. I also have the Collectors Edition for the Switch, which I will sale in Future for a higher price. So i‘ll enjoy this journey. Start is today, the end (finishing VI), well maybe in 2025 😅

I played IV and VI on my phone a while back. They're really good, but lordy they're overpriced. For what they're doing people are only going to get the ones they care about which they could easily sell all of them if they lowered the price.
Favorite is IV. Great characters caught up in a melodramatic story. Challenging enough, and you figure out new things about the enemies weaknesses while not feeling entirely linear.

I agree with you guys on the price being on the high side. However, I'm not really surprised, as I attribute it to the fact SE has had flop after flop after flop in the last year or so. They've shutdown a lot of live service games, and they know people will buy this (I know I am despite not liking the price.), people love these games. Easy money, and they need a success.

People complain about first party switch games not going on sale. Square Enix has been doing this for years! I’d have to wait for at least 50% off and even then probably won’t. I have most of them on iOS already. Still they look lovely ❤

9:22 No, a physical was available on the US Square Enix page. But the problems were limited stocks and expensive worldwide shipping.
I really really want to buy this as a collector item, but what bothers me is that these pixel remasters are not the most definitive edition of the games, lots of additional content in re-releases are absent and I don’t know why the don’t use the psp or advance versions as foundation for the remaster. It’s like releasing the Mass Effect trilogy as remasters but completely cut all the dlc from the three games. I probably buy it at some point but this is the one big obstacle on keeping me buy this.

I’ve never played FF games so I purchased FF 1 to test it out, but you make it sounds hard not to like the bundle. If I like 1, I’ll buy the bundle. Even if I have to technically pay for 1 again.

Appreciate this review. I definitely agree re: the "worth it" section. I've personally been struggling with whether or not to buy the collection, as I haven't actually played most of the games and am sure I'd enjoy them, but man... that price! I think what I've decided to do is stick the bundled version on my wishlist and wait for the inevitable sale. It's not like I have a shortage of other games to play anyway, haha. Onto the wishlist it goes!

I wasn't a fan of turn-based combat either until I got these games on my GBA. The combat is smooth and fast-paced.
This was a quite pleasant duo review. The last one I saw was a bit chaotic and all over the place. Definitely an improvement!
With that said, I might just buy FFVI in the future, since it's so highly regarded by fans. It's a shame they didn't go the HD-2D route.
personally I understand why people don't think the price is good but to be honest I think the value is pretty much perfect to be honest. if it was just plain old ports then I think £30-£40 would be about right for these but considering that these games are effectively faithful reamkes rather than remasters really sells it for me. there's just so so much work put into this and honestly I don't think we could have asked for a better collection. I know you guys think that HD-2D would be better for these games but personally I feel this is the perfect look for keeping things faithful
I know Lunar Silver Star Story has nothing to do with Square Enix but that game and its sequel would easily get my money were they remastered. Loved those rpgs.
I love all these games. I’ve played all of them at least once. And although I agree that the value/hour is high…. I don’t plan to pay $70+ for the collection. That is too high. I would love a physical of this as well. Too bad.

The only thing I miss is the achievements that were on the pc version, otherwise I love this collection, now I'm able to play ff games from 1 to 12 on the switch and I love it😊

I just don’t understand why they couldn’t just give us the Gameboy Advance versions of these games. FF 6 is still the best Final Fantasy Game in the series. This bundle is still good, but could of been better if it was the Gameboy Advance versions with the extra content included.

I gave a try to FF VI a lot of time ago, but I never had the chance to get my copy for SNES and go far in the game. Got my copy a couple of days ago and it is overwhelming.
The saving grace of this collection is that you can buy each game individually instead of being forced to buy the entire collection. I personally only want 6 and 5. Because I’ve beaten the other games a few times already

FF6 was probably the biggest influence on my young gaming experience. I love that game so much. All the characters are so well written and have a lot of depth to them.
Having said that I agree. The pricing is off. $17 for one game, $74 for all of them... just seems like a lot...

Funny how Switch got the last release... when entire games of Pixel Remaster were originally released on Nintendo consoles.
And you can move in 8 directions instead of just 4 now. Auto dash is nice too.
Besides being completely overpriced the games are good. Even if I do wish they were more of remakes and less pixel halfassery. But the music is fucking amazing and reminds me on how priceless it is.

I’m definitely late with this, but it seems tough to justify paying so much when the older games are free to emulate. Even so, I still find myself thinking the physical may be worth picking up on a deep sale if it ever comes up for the nostalgia

Considering it's $75 for all of them together, I recommend doing that, as buying them seperately, you pay about $93. I purchased the physical edition for the Switch.
Isn't the font too small/thin for the handheld mode ? Also did they fix the judder scroll ? It happens when you walk diagonally, it was very noticeable on the DQ Collection too and PC users already pointed it out for those games too.
