I was literally taken aback by the analysis of white's last knight move, vs retracting the Bishop from pawn attack. If the Bishop is moved away, the whole game turns on a dime, with black on the attack!! Gotta love this game, and Jerry's analysis! Amazing!!
it's funny because a move like that (g pawn doubling on f3 to box out a knight) by nepo basically made ding lose game 2 of the 2023 world chess championship
Until the last move Vaganian had only one inaccuracy in the game. After about move 15 the advantage ramped up steeply for Anand. Interesting how a game is not lost by specifically flagged mistakes, but some inherent imbalance in the respective positions.
Jerry, how do you decide which games to look up? From what I understand, analyzing a game takes quite some time, from just watching the moves, to seeing the depth of potential of each position. I assume you are not just stumbling upon random games and one in every X games is a worthwhile one.
This is a superb channel! Why not ...Rxd4? If Bxc6ch...BxB, then if RxB...QxKt. And instead if after ...Rxd4, RxR...QxKt Fighting chance for Black? Would have at least liked to see this ruled out.
I’m not familiar with Vaganian; but if he missed the N jump to e5, he might indeed have missed the mate. Concentrating on defense elsewhere. Or maybe completely outclassed.

I wonder what the time controls were for this game
After a quick google search, these were surely classical game time controls.
With it being the Tal Memorial, it’s Classical.
👍
That doubling of the F pawns early created a real liability for black. Tons of good lines pointed out. Thanks Jerry.

Neat game. Yes, I agree that he realized he made a blunder and gave up.

He wanted the game over with! Thanks again Jerry. Job well done.
3:18 i was thinking about Qc7 and Bd6 battery, maybe followed by e5. I think this is the only way for black to makw progress

Kind of starts with “What player do I want to cover?” And then I just fish around for a game that catches my eye.

Hi Jerry.
I loved you explaination ...rathar than mordern shouting chess intellectual which shouts more and tells less
Jerry still hates the French defense!!!
I’m a fan. Probably one of my top openings, in speedy time controls at least.
@ChessNetwork Just teasing since I see it lose a lot in game recaps!
I agree, it's kind of an interesting poison checkmate in one idea. In spirit with the tournament could possibly be a consideration. Thanks.
second
You had your chance to say "secod."
Why would you allow mate though? Why not just resign? I guess I'll never understand the psychology behind resign vs allow mate
It is a sign of respect.
Maybe he won’t see the mate
