The full video: • An Introduction to Lut...
This video is a clip from a longer discussion which is an introduction to Lutheranism. In this clip, I give an overview of the distinction between law and gospel as it appears in the writings of Martin Luther and in the Lutheran Confessions.
Good video. I like the SOS mnemonic
Thanks for posting Pastor Jordan.
Paul's epistle to the Galatians is pretty clear as gentile Christians we are not now nor have we ever been under the law of Moses specifically
Merry Christmas
This video was very helpful. Thank you!
Ah man. Would love to dialogue on this one day. This is honestly the biggest reason I'm not a Lutheran--that i think the law is a means of salvation, and the gospel contains commands (so they are overlapping nested categories rather than utterly distinct)--though of course i appreciate that Lutherans affirm the law as good, and God's commands as essential to perservering in faith.
I didn't have time to watch this yet, but I got a kick out of the fact that the crucifix you used for Gospel I have two of over my monitor, the second I had just hung yesterday, and had been thinking to myself "these are the same mold with different colors."
Could you do a video on Romans 7? In particular, does Paul's autobiographical discussion in Romans 7 describe only his pre- salvation self, or is he also describing his struggles with his flesh as a believer? It seems to me that the answer to this question has tremendous practical significance. Thanks!

@DrJordanBCooper : Excellent! Thank you for this! I really enjoyed this Romans 7 video and, frankly, would enjoy more similar content. I noticed that you ran out of time in this Romans 7 video and didn't have a chance to fully develop some of the parallel passages. So maybe you would consider doing a follow up to this?
BTW, I've long struggled with the proper interpretation of Romans 7, but I'm now convinced that your view (that this describes Paul's Christian experience), is correct.
Pre salvation….ROMANS 8 VERSE ONE SHOWS THE COMPLETE VICTORY IN CHRIST….MUST BE KEPT IN RIGHT CONTEXT….OR NEVER HAVE THE VICTORIOUS LIFE….THIS SETS US FREE FROM SIN…LEGALLY….BUT GAINING THE VICTORY TAKES TIME AND PATIENCE.DR.BRYANT LANE.
@@bryantlane8646 : Thank you for your comment, brother. Did you watch Dr. Cooper's entire video?
God rest ye, merry gentlemen.
Amen

It's our baptist tract haha. Nice work
Also put in your tracts that Baptism saves and infants should be Baptize! And become Lutherans!

If anybody wants to learn more about the Lutheran Law-Gospel distinction, highly recommend reading “The Necessary Distinction” edited by Collver, Nestingen and Pless.
Dr Cooper would you recommend these? I thought Forde had some faulty thinking?
@@ministeriosemmanuel638 I do not recommend this book at all.
@@lisajones7756 yes, especially in this book.
@@DrJordanBCooper Thanks for the warning Dr. Cooper!
But would you recommend “The Necessary Distinction”?
Also what other books would you recommend for getting into the Law-Gospel distinction?
@@DrJordanBCooper yes, he had faulty thinking or yes, you would recommend?
If the command, "You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it, you will certainly die," is defined as gospel, the distinction becomes blurred, rendering any discussion of the distinction unnecessary.
Their is no salvation without the Law.
'And, according to the Torah, almost all is cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.'
Iḇ`rim (Hebrews) 9:22
There is one way. And yes Messiah has His humanity and divinity as is the Gospel and Law. But you shouldn’t split God and say that God is bad and that God is good. God is One
No salvation without the gospel. You're not a Christian. You don't refer to the NT but to the old covenant.

If I am not of the same religion of you then you have no salvation

You will see the Sacrifice Messiah forever in hell knowing that you rejected the sacrifice, called law.
Spending time with Jews online and in life showed me Luther is dead wrong about the Law= Torah! They love it, its not just there as a sin marker, Torah never demanded perfection: it is pure Grace. Any confusion here lies squarely with Paul and Luther! Lets rediscover the deep Jewish routes of the faith that sprang haphazardly from it to the Gentiles. Torah is way more than rules: it is teaching and Deuteronomy states clearly it is possible to keep it! This salvation by fideism is a complete novelty by Paul and Luther as is the focus on salvation from hell and an individualised psychological faith as the means to that salvation. For the Torah, salvation is the covenant with a merciful and faithful God.
The Apostle Paul spoke with the authority of Scripture, under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit. He perfectly set forth the clear exposition of the Law/ Torah, guided by the risen Christ, who perfectly fulfilled the entire Torah, for us/ in our place. I think I’ll side with Paul on this one.
If you're argument requires me to reject the inspired teachings of St. Paul (who I might remind you was a pharisee) and side with a bunch of modern jews who have rejected the gospel, then you're off on the wrong track
Not to mention the fact that St. Paul is hardly the only New Testament author to preach the gospel as salvation by faith apart from works of the law.
Repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of sins.
