The overwhelming number of photos in this video were taken around 1889 or 1890, which means even the youngest children in these pictures is long dead. There's something profound in that to me; to see so many faces and people, all so full of life who are now long gone. GREAT video! Thanks for making it!!!

Ian Anderson- Iove his voice and the way what he sings. Jethro Tull is still with me. Since 1975- when I was 10.

My Great Grandfather was a 'Ships Whaler' out of Whitby. Some of the artifacts from his Sailing ships like an Harpoon Gun still reside in the Museum there on the cliff facing the Sea. I visited there when I was a young lad, fascinated by it all and walked out on the beach during low tide. Amazing ! Ian Anderson's tales always bring me back to my ancestral past and the stories my Grandfather told me of those days gone by. Viewing Frank Sutcliffe's photographs that James has kindly brought to us is like icing on the cake to those memories. Thank you !

I saw Tull in about 73-74.It was the Passion Play .They were just not of anyone or time and they did Thick As Brick .I was about fourteen or so.I sat on the floor of the Omni and was so stoned by just the smoke of around me It's was great.I was with friends and I got the best seats of all.I remember Ian Anderson just playing that afour Martin on the stage it was a wonderful guitar and the flute was very strong with Martin Barr playing it also. Those were the greatest days I do remember. What a wonderful life on being a hippie in those days.It was like everyone loved you!!!!!

Nicely done. Love the collection of pics, makes me pine for that time to live in as life was harder yet cleaner/healthier than what it is nowadays. And to those who will challenge my meaning of cleaner, no referring to the cleanliness of the hands or clothes, but of the mind and spirit. Less pollution and toxic foods.

Goodness, I haven't listened to 'Stormwatch' for so many years. This is beautiful, thank you for sharing. Much appreciated. Unashamedly a huge Tull fan since 1970. Even sadder, have all the 12" vinyls and CDs plus a few DVD thrown in! .. and one I have NEVER heard, 'Driver'. Who said 'Isolation' was boring! :) Cheers, John Benson Melbourne, Australia

This has been one of my favourite Jethro Tull songs since I first heard 'Stormwatch' in the late 1980s (about a decade after its release). I have always loved the hauntingly sad lyrics and the way the music ebbs and flows like the tide. I also love the way that you have matched the evocative photography of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe with this beautifully wistful song.

Stormwatch was my first Tull album sooo many years ago. I think I wore the grooves out of it. But I hadn't listened to this in more than 25 years. The mix of the beautiful, joyful and yet melancholy music with your well chosen images leaves me awash in memory also both joyful and melancholy. What a heady trip, thank you.

What an amazing video! Great choice of pics, it really does flow with this song. Flying Dutchman is definitely one of my all time favorite Tull songs. Stormwatch is my favorite album of theirs. Something about the melancholy mix and Celtic atmosphere of it. Also the additional sounds of the waves and seagulls really create a great atmosphere for the song. I wish they had them on the original recording.

A classic Tull song, but for me the photos make this something special. They are so, I don't know, I'm struggling to find words, haunting maybe? I listen to this song, see the photos and I want to know their stories. I want to know these people (although they do look like some boating folks that I do know) and wonder who they were, what became of them. Lovely.

A real work of art. Enjoyed that so much. I saw Tull on this tour at Hammersmith Odeon in 1980. They were a stunning live band in their heyday. I first saw them on the Heavy Horses tour in '78, with John Glascock on bass, and they were just breathtaking. That was the tour that produced the live album Bursting Out. I got to meet Ian Anderson and David Palmer afterwards, which added to the occasion.
I saw them again on the Broadsword tour in '82, by which time a lot of the band had been replaced, which meant they weren't the same for me, but it was still a great show.
I haven't seen them since, as I've never enjoyed their subsequent stuff as much as I did the albums before the band changed, and I am sure I'd struggle to enjoy Ian Anderson's singing these days, since he wrecked his voice in the mid 80s.
Thanks again for the video. I bet the band members love it.

Outstanding! One of the most prolific storey tellers, only one other is at Ian's level, Gordon Lightfoot.
For years I've been listening to the yarns spun by Ian Anderson. When the music wasn't there to hear, my mind and it's memory could replay them within my special place to be.
Your video work is now the backdrop to "Flying Dutchman". A precious gift I will try to pay forward.

you did a great job with this video, it's very true to the song. Tull has always been my favorite band, and part of the reason for this is the imagery their songs put in your mind. if you let them their songs will suck you into another place. often a better one, or simply a place to reflect on the world.

Great song. my great grand parents left Whitby in the late 1890s to make a life in New Zealand, I was thinking of this one day and knew where Whitby was, I had this most unusual moment where I was with them as they made their way from Boston to Whitby to begin the long sea voyage and their boarding the vessel to take them away from their country, my grandfather was the first born child in NZ although I guessed that he was concieved prior to the sea voyage. I love these images I thought that it was Francis Frith who had done the photography.
