Titus Makin will play Jackson West, a zealous rookie officer whose father is a top commander of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Alyssa Diaz will play Angela, a training officer who hopes to become a detective, but is in trouble when Jackson West is assigned to her because his father has a say in the department. Mercedes Mason as Captain Zoe Andersen, the lead's confident, irate commanding officer.

I've heard that a major reason for making attempts on your own life like this is often caused by tunnel vision. Not in a casual sense but a more serious sense. You get wrapped up in how things are going bad, cause they are, and you lose any and all sight of the possibility that your circumstances can get better. She lost her job and living arrangements, and her pet ran away. She can still get another job, there are resources to help her find a place to stay until she finds a place for herself, and her pet cat can be found with some time and effort. All is not lost. The fact that he gave her a lottery ticket put the idea in her head that there are still possibilities she can try and that she is not alone and people can help her. Basically, using empathy, he gave her a way out after her proverbial bridge collapsed.
That is not empathy, that is sympathy, empathy is where you truly understand someone’s circumstances and sympathy is basically saying “I feel bad that you had to go through it” and that is not tunnel vision, having such thoughts is not abnormal but it is serious…..
@Silencer796 Wouldn't you call being only able to think about or focus on one thing 'tunnel vision'? I'm just saying that's what I heard about it. Also, according to Merriam-Webster's dictionary, empathy is the action of putting yourself in someone's else's shoes in order to see things from their perspective. Sympathy is sharing concern for another person. I guess that means he used both? I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm right. I just thought it would be good to have a discourse about this.

Additional context for anyone who wants this.
This is very close to Nolan's (the cop) first day on the job if not his first. He used to work as a contractor but his life fell apart after his wife left him. It was amicable but still he was left without much of a purpose. So one day when hes contemplating ending it he ends ip buying a lottery ticket. If I remember right it gave him like $10 but I could be wrong. Anyways he turned his life around and joined the LAPD because he wanted to make a difference and help people.
So when he finds this woman about to jump he passes on his little tradition of buying a lottery ticket once a week as something to keep you going.
Helping people in such personal ways is Nolan's whole deal in this show. People saw his age as a disadvantage but the life experience he had already gained helped him truly connect to rhe people he's trying to help.
And of course once they get back to rhe police station everyone makes fun of him for the birdal save.
...why did they made fun of him...
All that matters that he saved a life today...
@@SimonIsVeryHandsome for the first two seasons Nolan is almost always seen as the butt of the joke at the station. He's a man well into middle age becoming a rookie cop, something most people did in their twenties. He had to do a lot to prove himself to the other officers. Not to say that I'm defending their actions, just explaining!
@@SimonIsVeryHandsome maybe because police work is a grim occupation, often inhabited by people who would otherwise be bullies (and maybe still are).
Btw in the full clip he explains that he was once down on his luck, failing business and marriage. He was going to buy a large bottle of liquor and get drunk in depression but instead he bought a lottery ticket, just to have a bit of hope. He didnt win but he buys one every week, so there is always something to hope for each week, hope that he is giving to her.

HOWEVER, something like a “suicide contract,” something that basically says “okay I promise I will live until tomorrow” or some other day, are highly effective. That lottery ticket? It’s a contract. And every psychologist out there will tell you that that was a smart move

A friend's favorite wedding story: She and her husband were married in one location in the afternoon. Photos were then taken before a reception was held in a second location that evening. The photography took much longer than they had planned. Eventually, the blushing young bride in her wedding dress and the handsome young groom in his fancy suit are able to jump into a car and start driving themselves to the second location. Obviously, they are driving faster than the speed limit.
Cop pulls them over for speeding. Cop walks up and sees then in full wedding attire. Cop sighs, says "Don't waste time telling me about it.", and waves them away without evening asking for license and registration.
