Creel brings the crazy optimism of the role and Rannells the innocence...both excellent
I understand people's opinons about Andrew and Gav, and i agree- Andrew suits it better- but Gav did a bloody good job- its meant to be hammy; its making a joke about "Confidence" from Sound of Music. just wanted to say that! You go, Gav!
While Gavin is a good singer, I think Andrew Rannells better suits Elder Price.

I went to see this live in London.
Gavin is a decent actor, but I just didn't feel this song when he performed it.
It was obvious that he avoided eye contact with the other actor too, which made it look uncomfortable.
I agree. He's a talented singer. However, his lack of eye contact with his co-actor onstage makes the performance seem uncomfortable, in my opinion.
I love his voice!
When you compare Gavin's performance with Andrew's, can you see the difference? Gavin's performance was hammy and unconvincing. He didn't convey the angst of a man in a crisis of faith.

Gavin is awesome, but the current Elder Price at that theatre, KJ Hippensteel has more natural passion and seems more comfortable in the role - he's fantastic.

I'm so glad this show toured, and actually I think Kevin Clay was a better elder Price than Gavin Creel, he had the right type of voice more in keeping with that of Andrew Rannells, but was also closer to the right age for Elder Price; also Connor Pierson was phenomenal as Elder Cunningham, Josh Gad would have been proud!
I don’t know if you’ve seen it with Dom Simpson as elder price but he’s the absolute best of all of em!

I like Nic Rouleau in this role. Hammy is the entire point. I mean, it's intentionally so. Reason being that a huge part LDS is everything being 'for show', just think of Turn It Off lol
But I mean, it really is. They are all smiles and happiness (Orlando!) and its the whole kill em with kindness approach innit
Not to mention who the dang thing was written by in the first place.... Cheesier performance the better imo

Well, in the actual show, the orchestra is hidden under the stage, and during this song, the ensemble members sing their part offstage in the wings.

I am not a prude or an active anti-racist, but when I saw this production in London, I was disgusted by the endless parade of raciist stereotypes that it shows. It was crude racism and I am astonished that it has been such a success.
nic rouleaus price is like 17 times better than this,, soz gavin. you've done better roles.
I think Creel is a fine Price, I just think this song in particular is a weaker performance, especially since the key is lowered.

Ive seen the touring show about 5 times in the US. Hands down, this guy looks like the worst Elder Price. I blame the director though

Oh this wasn't even close to as funny as the u.s. version. This played like a really good joke that was told so badly nobody understood it. One small example would be that in the u.s. version, the mormon actor stresses "changed" and "black people" so that it sounded like "god CHANGED his mind about BBBLLLAAACK PEOPLEEEEE!" followed by a backup chorus of "black peopllleeee!" lol it was fukken hysterical XD but with this guy it fell flat.
