Your countryside looks so pretty and peaceful .
It really is! I love it here!
❤ and your humor
I went to a food bank today. I got potatoes. 8pounds Onions. Carrots. Three meats
.two dozen eggs. Four bags powered milk. 12 soups in boxes. 6veggies broth.
Thanks so much for again supporting the idea of using food banks to reduce food waste, that they are available for everyone and that there is no shame in going to help stretch your budget (and most of our budgets are getting tighter!) Seems like you have a great Food Pantry to go to, and I’m so glad for you and your family (and the people of your area) for having access to that. No one in this country (or any country) should go hungry. One thing we did choose to invest in (we found it at an outlet, had a small scratch in the paint, who cares) was a large freezer. This has been great because we can buy large quantities on sale, and have a place to store them long term. Another thing that has been great (and I would recommend for you or anyone) is a “food saver” vacuum sealer for thing’s you’d freeze. We would lose so many things to freezer burn, and with this appliance, it lasts for at least a year (we haven’t tried it for longer.) Husband found a broken one at the thrift store…all it needed was a replacement belt (5$) and he’s handy and knows how to do this. You can get a large amount of the storage bags at Costco for a low price. This has saved us a tremendous amount of money, and reduced our food waste so much, yay!!! So interesting to see you make cheese! I want to try this…love cheese…and it looks interesting to do!! Thanks, @Mama Baird’s Homestead for your videos…you have such a fun personality, cook interesting things for great ideas, and give great info! Hopefully, I’ll make one of your lives! Appreciate your channel, and so happy for you that you’re getting so many subscribers…good for you!!
Thank you so much for all the love and support Molly!
Flatbread pizza with crab. Take your flatbread. Make a white cream alfredo. Add mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Place your crab or shrimp or seafood whatever you got on top of the flatbread. And then just heat it for like 5 minutes in the oven if the seafood is already. If the seafood as raw cook your seafood till it's almost. And then added to your. After you top the flatbread pizza with your seafood or whatever you got to do put a little more sauce on it and some cheese and baked it just 45 minutes until it's hot and melted
I have a friend who works at a grocery store and he calls me when he has to get rid of veggies and breads and other thing's as well. I either can it or freeze for my chickens. It's a great way to keep it out of the landfill
Thank you for not making me feel ashamed. I love your videos
I look forward to watching you. Thank you so so much.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching and your support!
That was whey cool to make your own Mozzarella with the extra milk you got Carolina! Homemade cheese is the best! You got some good food this week - those flat bread look yum... so many different wraps and things you could do with them to make easy meals.
My grandmother used to use the leftover liquid to make cornbread, breads, and or biscuits. One time I seen her use it to make our cream of wheat or our grits depending on what else she was cooking when she made that cheese she would substitute that liquid with
Thank you for sharing that with me! Those are great uses for it!
I work full time and I utilize food banks. It’s being resourceful and it is yummy snd beneficial. I wish I would have known about it a few times years ago…..yes rent, phone, electric, insurance, car note, etc, etc
I use the flat bread for pizza. layer bread & put in over just till the chesse melts.
I have been binge watching your videos. We unfortunately don't have alot of food banks in South Africa, but cheaper like stores. So with these ideas I can easily make a hearty meal with not too expensive products. With everything so expensive it's difficult to keep a budget and make a hearty and filling meal. Love your channel and recipes. I will keep and eye for that next video! Thanks so much really. 😊
Oh thank you! I'm so glad I can give you some ideas! Thank you for your love and support!
I love that you're removing the stigma people have of foodbanks while normalizing using local resources available! ❤❤❤
There are two-three people in my household at dinner time a box of rice a roni pasta with a bit of meat is perfect for 2 for dinner or 3 with a side or added veggies.
You could make Pizza from the flat bread for the kids. Cut them into individual sizes and let them top their own any way they want. Or it may be good to use for a Mexican type casserole in place of flour tortillas.
Those are great ideas!
I saw a video showing you can make ricotta cheese from the whey.
Supposed to bring the whey. up to 200° and add a quarter cup of vinegar or lemon juice let it set 10 minutes and drain through cheesecloth
I believe what's left in the pot is the whey, but what is left in your bowls is buttermilk. Could be used in pancakes or waffles. Our tribe of many has great videos making cheese.
Thank you!
Those flatbreads would make good turkey rollups. Spread cream cheese then a layer of cranberry sauce and add some turkey. Roll it up and cut into pinwheels.
Oh I like that idea! Thank you!
From Nonna, make ricotta from the whey which is basically heating it up. Then feed the whey to the critters.
Thank you !
Omg Friend! I just found your channel and I couldn’t hit subscribe fast enough!!! You are so much fun and Real!!!! Can’t wait for more videos! Love from California 💕
Yay! Thank you! Welcome to the family!
Flatbread makes great pizzas too if u have any left
I used them a lot for that!
I think it's wonderful that you can use the food bank to supplement. I don't need it, but you never know, someday I might. I like the creative ideas you show with using what you receive. Many blessings to you and your family for 2023!,
Thank you so much Bev!
My daughter makes the best dip from imitation crab meat that she serves on toasted French baguettes!
Oh yummy!!
I just found your channel and just so you know I LOVE your channel thank you so much happy new year and many blessings to you and your family
Thank you! You too!
Love this page. Things are crazy right now, and people need to use all of the resources available to them. Food is crazy right now, and food banks are there to help those who need it.
I agree! Thank you so much!
Flatbreads would make great cream cheese and ham pinwheel sandwiches.
Great idea!
Whey is also great in smoothies as an extra protein boost, you can also give it to your dog or cat, add it to soups, give it to plants….. it’s great for a lot of stuff
Thank you!
@@mamabairds I went back to check on the link, clicked the link & it says “content not available”, 😢 I wish I could share screen shots to show you what it’s saying 😅
@@nicolemyers8551 What isn't available? The video?
I like storing excess bags of sugar or flour in gallon ziplocks to keep bugs out
That's a great idea!
Your rescued plants are looking awesome!
I think so too!
Every time one of your videos starts I feel like I’m going to hang out with my bff!
AW, thank you my friend!
wax paper or plastic wrap in between layers of wraps and baked chicken or beef wraps baked in the oven with cheese like enchiladas
Good thinking!
Nice tutorial!! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
When you make mozzarella next time , I would suggest putting the curd part into hot water. It will become soft doing that and you will be able to stretch it and ball it better. My daughter is a cheese monger and she watched your video with me and suggested that. That's what they do at Harvest Market. Hope that helps.
Thank you for that! Will you tell your daughter thank you as well! I'll take all the tips and help I can get!
To calibrate just use more ice than water to get actual temp of ice. I had to calibrate thermometers at work and the temperature will drop if you add more ice.
Ok good to know! Thank you for that tip!
Oh I got it another thing too I got a very large container of. When I went to the grocery store tonight I just wanted to see what the price of mayonnaise was cuz I hadn't bought anything in like 3. The jar of mayonnaise that I got at my food bank this morning they're selling for $12.88 and our local grocery store in town. I feel so very lucky to have had gotten a chance to get a jar of mayonnaise that would have been no sandwiches no potato salad no nothing this month without mayonnaise
Yay!! I would have grabbed that too! I love mayo...my whole left thigh is made from mayo..hahah
When making mozzarella with my grandmother she always kept the cheese in the hottest water her hands could take (that old lady had asbestos hands, lol) and would do all the kneading and folding in the water to keep it soft while forming the balls.
Great tip! I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me this! Thank you!
Your amazing
Thank you!!
The whey can be made into ricotta. I'll have to try this
Interesting that this popped up.. possibly because we've had to use our local food banks recently. My husband has been off work since November when he ended up in the hospital suddenly and I was missing a lot too even before then to my own health issues. I felt nauseous the first time we had to get help but I really appreciate your perspective and efforts to break the stigma. It is also great to see your tips. Thank you
You are most welcome! I'm sorry for your struggles! Life can switch to hard mode in an instant! I'm glad you found me and that you are here!
Hi Carolina! 👋🏻 That’s one thing I like about your channel-you show us new and interesting things. The cheese making was so interesting! Thanks for sharing and take care. 😀👋🏻❤️
Thank you so much!
I LOVE Montana 🖤💚🖤💚
Hoping to retire there
It's so beautiful!
Just came upon your channel. My last name is Baird too cool. Love all of the ideas you have. Definitely going to use some of them for our food storage.
Awesome! I wonder if we are distantly related! I think most of the Bairds are in some form.
If you garden, water your plants with the leftover whey!
Squid ink pasta. It’s ymmy.
Hey there! Quick tip on freezing the bagels. Keep a drinking straw handy (yes, I use a steel one). Just before you pinch that last inch on the baggie closed, stick your straw in the corner of the bag and suck out all the extra air. I make mega-batches of muffins for my husband and freeze them. Getting (almost) all the air out helps keep ice crystals from forming so they don't have mushy spots when they thaw.
That's a great tip! Thank you!
Also if you need food but your food bank limits based on your income, check into mobile food banks. They typically do not do any checks for income. Hope this helps someone.
Church food give aways typically do not do checks either. I volunteer at two different church give aways.
I can go to one a month and in another town can go up to 3x/month. I try to go 2x and then the one time. I am so grateful for anything I don’t have to purchase. They know me bc I always ask for flour or sugar. I ended up getting a 3 lb pork roast bc nobody wanted to cook it 😮.
Just love the way you trouble shoot when things don't always go as they should to begin with. Thank you.
My husband has been wanting to make mozzarella. We like making homemade breads too. We might try the mozzarella now.
You should! Just let it get hotter than I did with mine and it'll be stretchy. I didn't heat mine up quite long enough.
That flat bread looks amazing! reminds me of the cracker bread i use for Aram sandwiches. That's a total Score!
Oh yes!
I’m glad you got yourself a treat from the foodbank! Mama needs a treat! I’ve heard you can use whey in smoothies.
Yes! Thank you!
Great video. So cool that you preserve/can /save so much food. I honestly never thought about how much we waste in food with so many starving. Thank you for making me think and be more aware. Blessings!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching!
you could make whole made butter out of that; HAPPY NEW YEAR IM PRETYY NEW TO YOUR CHANEL THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH US,
Happy new year! Welcome to the family!
Hi, take your leftover whey and put it into ice cube trays. Freeze and then add several whey ice cubes to your soup stocks. Adds extra protein & doesn't change to flavor of your broth. Also add a couple whey ice cubes into your smoothies. Protein smoothies!
Thanks for the tips!
Loved this video!! You are so patienate about the food bank, I hope those needing help listen to you! I learn so much from you about being frugal and you do it without being intimidating. Thanks Carolina....you have fast become one of my favorite youtubers!! From Montgomery al 🙏 ❤️
Thank you so much!
I can relate to when you said step outside your comfort zone and see what you can make with food bank items. I made a sweet potato dump cake out of a can of sweet potatoes and cake mix I got from my local food bank plus some pantry items that I always have on hand, and it was awesome. Everyone keeps asking when am I going to make it again. Lol.
Oh that sounds delicious!!
Would you mind sharing that recipe?
Thanks in advance ☺ 💖
That sounds soo good!
I always love your opening introduction and helping people feel comfortable with using the food bank.
I also continue to love your creativity, I feel like you are my neighbor that I come over to visit with my coffee and talk.
Yes! Thank you! I'm so glad you are enjoying it and getting that vibe from my channel!
I’m trying to think of a mean comment for an extra chuckle! 🤣. Seriously, Carolina you’re sweet! Your videos are like visiting with one of my neices
Even a soured milk can be used in a chocolate cake or pancakes! I wouldn't use sour milk if super chunky, but in a cake, it works fabulous! You got a great haul! Also, from the whey, I have made ricotta and in bread making.
I've made ricotta from milk that is close to expiration but didn't know you could use the whey. Plus, homemade ricotta is so much better than store bought.
That's so cool making that cheese! 🧀
Those Bagel thins are really good for sandwiches 🥪
Wow that’s awesome u are so patient doing that I never seen mozzarella cheese being made u saved yourself some money👏🏽👏🏽😀
Ooh good haul-yummy milk🙌🏻. Yes to all the cheese! Farmers cheese is good too! That’s what she said🤣I hear that non stop around here🤦🏻♀️😜
I like to freeze leftover pie and use it to make homemade ice cream-seriously delicious!

That's awesome and such a blessing 🙌 💗
Wow I never knew it was so easy to make mozzarella. You are incredible. Thanks for sharing 🤠
My pleasure!
I am participating in the #threeriverschallenge this year with a focus on using up all my older items in my pantry and the things I get from the pantry. I to take things they are going to throw away and preserve what I can. I have not been in the store all week! I have cut my coffee intake by 1/3 and instead drinking all the hot tea I have an abundance off in my pantry. I am loving this challenge!
That's a great idea! I don't know if I could switch my coffee for tea..haha
Try slicing those muffins into lengthwise cuts (like thick slices of loaf bread) and then brown them up in a pan with butter. Serve with milk. So good!
Oh I like that idea! Thanks!
What do you use whey for?
the flatbread would make great diy pizza for a fun activity with your kids! pop up some popcorn and have a picnic movie night in the living room. 😊
Great idea!! Thanks!
I think that flat bread would make a great pizza using your wonderful homemade cheese.
I agree! Yum!!
Those stuffed jalapeños sound awesome!
They were good! A little salty, but nothing some good ol' ranch couldn't fix!
Hey sweetie your plants are thriving just like your kids. Stay happy. Your friend Trish in Sandiego Ca USA
Aw thank you Triska!
That pie is huge! 🥧 💝 And yum! Flatbread!! Man you could make so many things with that!
Awesome

Oops! Thins, not Things lol.
Thanks for demonstrating mozzarella cheese making.
My pleasure 😊
Hello Carolina! I have a suggestion for the flat bread. Make pizzas. They are delicious.
I absolutely love your channel! Thank you for all of the awesome recipes!
Thank you my friend!
very cool. i've never seen cheese made before.
It's so good!
At my church we make syrian string cheese for our bazaar using mozzarella base. We use the whey to add to mideast biscuits. So delicious 😋. Enjoy your videos and your adventurous spirit.
Thank you so much!
You can use what in making bread
Those apple crumble muffins are my favorite when we used to live near a Costco I used to love getting those and the chocolate and the poppyseed… 😂
Same here! I'm glad they had so many!
This was awesome! I am inspired to make cheese! I really wanted to comment though on how far the food bank plants have come! Wow! They are doing great. 👍
Thank you! I am proud of them as well!
Girl you crack me up lol darn kids 🤣
Yea they're so sweet and cute lol even when you're like Ahh lol
Those are cute painting things they did 💝
🤗
That almost looks like lavish bread. Put lunch meat and cheese, roll up using the longer side, cut into pin wheel. Can freeze the pinwheels if needed. And, of course, pizzas! Maybe using fruit to make a sugary treat…..add a mix of cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla to make it a cheese cake with fruit. Those are huge! Nice work on the cheese. You have got to show us what you come up with using that mix of food options!
Great idea! Thank you! I will be sure to document what I make from the haul!!
flatbread makes good pizza dough
i was thinking the same thing. prolly used for deli's to make arams
Tested my thermometers after seeing how to do it. Hope you show now how you calibrate.
We buy milk from our creamery right up the road and my son made homemade butter. Yummm
Oh wow! I need to try that!
Love your honesty and tips
I appreciate that!
Enjoy watching your projects!
Glad you like them!
I use bagels to make bagel chips they are fantastic with soup.
The bagel things are yummy, love to make sandwiches with those, English muffin pizzas!
Love it! Be a soldier and try new things! Jody
Those muffins from Costco always looks SO good!!
I have seen people making cheese use the cheese cloth and it makes a nice ball
Great job! I'm so excited to see how to make mozzarella cheese!
I've rarely found milk to last beyond what you call the last sale date and in fact have seen milk go sour before that date. If you can keep your milk for weeks after then that's a good deal.
RIGHT?! People get so nervous with the sale by date.
Another inspiring , and knowledgeable video.
I appreciate that!
