Hi Katie, I agree that the colors you were disappointed in do look much brighter on you than they looked in the ad photos. **One factor to consider when buying a lipstick is -what is your natural lip color? If you have pale lips then lipsticks may look lighter/brighter Mon you, and if your lips have more red/are darker, then a lipstick may look darker. **Don’t discard the colors you don’t like. Instead, try blending them with other colors to see if you can get a color you like. In this case, I think you should blend them with a darker shade to tone the colors down/make them deeper. I’ve often done this. Hope this helps. I’d like to buy a natural lipstick.
They should offer one-use sample cards to try all the colors first. If they did that the no-refund policy would be okay. I have a couple of their lip sticks and like them, but agree it's risky to buy without very accurate photos or see what the colors look like on multiple people of each skin tone rather than just one.
Two thoughts about how to not waste the colors that you don't like. Mix colors to make your own custom shade! You can do this directly on your lips, or in a repurposed cosmetic jar. Another tip - try a new lipstick by using a clean brush or other applicator. That way you can pass it along to a friend if it doesn't suit you!
I really did think it was just me not knowing how to pick lip colors. Lip stick has never really been my thing so I assumed it was me. After my second order though I decided I wouldn’t buy anymore because of the mismatch. I will tell you two of the colors I ordered where for cool tones and one was supposed to be a soft shimmery peach it was orange…almost 80’s neon orange. And they had a nude pink and it was VERY baby pink on. I’m with you, the brand values, formulas, and concept are AMAZING, but it becomes “lip service” next to the refund policy, throwing away colors that don’t work, and product photos being off.
Thanks for sharing those color names, Joli. Agreed - and it's so sad because I want to love them. I'm happy with the colors I kept, but hate having to get rid of the others due to the mismatch.
Have you tried Color the World lipsticks? If you did, how did you like them?

Thanks, Eileen! This is very helpful. Great points. I have very pale lips, so that makes sense. I'll try the blending you mentioned!

Yes! I love your solutions!

Those are both great ideas, thank you! I haven't thrown out the ones that don't work for me yet so I'll try the custom shade idea!

Try them on your cheeks or a tad on your upper eyelids.
