  • Bi-Metal (Metal Cutting) sawzall blades. Lenox, Diablo, Milwaukee and the Warrior brand. Based upon the testing, the Diablo bimetal blade seems to come out on top over both the Lenox and Milwaukee. With that said, all 3 blades are terrific and I would buy any of those blades. I do not recommend the Warrior blade I tested.

    5:55 FYI that is not paint, its ink on the Lenox blade. It is designed to flake off and be removed during use to prevent binding or sticking like traditional paint. They use this same technique on their hole saws to prevent sticking of the plug. That might be another test is hole saws. The arc is designed for when a human uses the blade with a "rocking" motion. I just thought of something. I remember that Alex Steele blacksmiths on his channel. Here's the pitch for a challenge. Part one, the challenge is put forth to TH-cam blacksmiths to create a steel cutting blade for the "Thanksgiving Turkey Trot" challenge.
    Part two, a series of cutting tasks to evaluate/eliminate each blade as they are put through a number of challenges with a benchmark set by a median score of the top three manufactured cutting blades.

    I’m a 40 year Ninja Veteran of Sawzall skill. My favorite is the Lennox Bi metal blades. Teeth per inch is vital in performance thru various materials. 14-18 is just about perfect for material you demonstrated. The harder the material the finer the TPI. One thing that is not taken to account is for the user to not use just one spot in the blade; the build up of heat is quick and is a killer of teeth. Good job on testing though. Keep them coming.

    There is one question about the way that the jig is set up. It seems that the blades initially intersect the cutting surface below the horizontal aspect of the line from the pivot to the tip of the blade. What would happen to these tests if the horizontal aspect of the aforementioned jig set up were to match up (run parallel) with the plane of the pipe's diameter?

    • @ProjectFarm
      @ProjectFarm  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as it is consistent test to test the results are still comparable and valid. Optimizing a test is a whole other ball game. Most of industry testing is optimized to favor their own products
      I like the consistency tests better. Set up a repeatable test and let the product be the variable. Much more informative and fair.

      Well, if you notice, one blade had a bit of a curve along their cutting surface. That might have influenced their performance one way or the other. However, utilizing a device to start the saw before the blade comes into contact would be something else to help control test factors.

    Paint removal isn't a good indicator of damage. Functionally, no one cares if the paint is on there. If one brand uses higher quality paint, or thinner paint, that would appear better, but have nothing to do with what I actually are about: Blade Life and Removal Rate. Also, the amount of, I'm not sure what the term is but how much the teeth are splayed outwards (making the kerf wider than the spine) would also make the paint survive better, but again, higher kerf isn't desireable nor is paint survivability.
    Also, doesn't matter, but you could add light switch and and end stop to your jig. That way, like a metal bandsaw, it turns itself off when it drops down. Up to you, but, might be a convenience if you're going to use this dipping jig in the future.

    • @ProjectFarm
