Thanks for the insight into Mestre, I've heard it's the best place to stay due to it's proximity and ease of access to Venice centre, would you agree?

We would agree for sure BIAF, we stayed just opposite Mestre station and it was an easy 15 minute train journey to the centre, just perfect as it was a lot cheaper and we really liked the area and the Italian atmosphere, not so many tourist seem to spend time here, which was a surprise to us.
