The brilliance of this band summed up in one song. Beautiful but powerful. Soothing but spellbinding. The way the instruments and MJKs vocals blend together is a match made in Opiate induced heaven.
I keep coming back to watch again. Thank you so much for sharing this video! "This paranoid paralyzed vampire acts a little old" - best song lyric ever!!! I had the total pleasure of seeing these guys live in 2007 with my sister at an outdoor venue in Peoria Az .🤘🤘and it wasn't a concert it was a fuckin' religions experience.
One of the great gems on Lateralus, in my opinion by far the best TOOL album! The music and feel of the songs are so well intertwined and part of a larger epic picture. Kinda missed that feeling on 10k Days...
Took me like 2 months of constant listening to really be sucked in to tool.. One has to know the songs front to back to really feel the musical genious these guys roam.. The connection between the members is unique, and they are able, as the only band I know, to reach and touch a sense I never thought existed..
I think for a man to write lyrics like this he must often feel isolated and unable to connect with others, which is painful and very hard to live with. Reminding himself that there are times of 'reward' or 'desire to heal' (in other words do positive things for other people and feel good for it regardless of whether people see it or give it back to you) is a strong theme in the song. Its his internal battle to choose life and positivity over bowing down to an acute sense of emotional pain.
i loved the Lateralus Tour prolly cause it was the first time seeing them live in 2002 i think and that album completely just floored me aside from the whole huge NIN Fragile era in that kinda timeframe
@nomorepeopleband I completely agree. The relatively empty, cumbersome, staccato-like intro eventually finds itself in the midst of a powerfully emotional climax, releasing into a gorgeous, singing guitar chorus. The absolution of inner turmoil into ecstatic release...touches the soul, it really does. Quite a journey for something less than eight minutes long. Good call brother.
@0506thekid I was at that show my first Tool show a great concert besides the knee deep mud of course. A visually and musically stunning concert. They did a great job, can't wait to see them again.
Usually at Festival gigs you have people who talk throughout Tools set. If its just Tool with a supporting act or by themselves touring you usually get the fans who truly are there to see Tool
I've seen TOOL live 3 times now. Twice after Lateralus then once after 10,000 Days. Each time was a new experience. The first one I went to had bible thumpers outside, and toward the end of the show Maynard mentioned them the went on to sing Opiate. I love TOOL, and I CANNOT wait till their next CD. *begins holding breath*
i love all the tool albums but i definitely think lateralus is their masterpiece. I think lateralus is possibly the greatest album ever created. Such real, thoughtful, and yet imaginative. is anyone with me on this?
i saw a lateralus show and a 10000 days shows and they both felt different and both shows were unbeliveable best shows ive ever seen i was in awe during and after both shows the music does all the work they dont need to be moving around like clowns tool is on another level. and the 10000 days tour maynard was very energetic. lateralus show seemed more mellow and 10000 days was a heavier show both amazing.TOOL IS THE BEST!!!!
Wicked song, amazing live performance!! I was at the latest concert in Vancouver what an amazing show! But to the people talking shut the F up and feel the music What are you thinking This song is like a trance and it sucks you in if you listen! great VID Sussie!! Awesome and intense!
07:13 is so fucking amazing - even live! they play perfectly, maynard sings perfectly. too bad he didnt bring his mixer on that concert. still jsut great though. best band i ve ever heard!
@270cheese I said "seem" only because I have not experienced their awesomeness in live concert myself, only seen some kick-ass epic videos of their live shows. Thus they do seem to me, and if they came to Finland and I saw them live, my mind would be blown away by their aura of pure awesome.
Dont think that I could die a happy man before I have kids or experience Tool live.. Why did I just discover them a year ago.. Havent been listening to anything else since..
@wonderwall135 It's a mood piece, you know...and all in all some exquisite work. The use of color, form, and imagery work with the receptive nature of this song quite nicely. Not to mention, Adam Jones describes Tool's art as "basic surrealism", so I wouldn't get too much in a twist over it. We're all born naked, and if you can believe it, some chicks still have pubic hair.
Yep, I went to the 10k days Concert in Council Bluffs IA And they didnt play The Patient or The Pot.. They did open with Stinkfist though, was pretty weird, but one of the best experiences of my life.
God, I hope Tool releases a live DVD one day. I would love to see all these songs played live on a high quality DVD. Not that I don't like these videos on youtube, but Tool only has 1 pro-shot and it was for Sober, I want to see more!
@Sargatha Saw Metallica live four times and met the band as well. Seeing them on DVD does no justice to seeing them live. The band was amazing. Would love to see Tool live as well. They will come to NY again know that. Just not this summer tour. Probably next year when their new record is released :D
Justin is the name of the Bass Player, of whom was being referenced. Maynard, as we all know, is the singer; and Adam would be the guitarist. If you don't know who Danny is by now you probably shouldn't be commenting.
I was at the Tacoma dome show in 2001. It was on 11-08-2001. Tho...I don't think this may be from that show... Tricky from massive attack opened up for Tool that night. Plus...I vividly remember they had these people were hanging upside down naked, painted silver swaying above the crowd...and they were contorting themselves all crazy like...but they stayed in sync & harmony with the songs .. Maynard spoke to the crowd like he did in the box set...not word for word .but definitely taking us thru the .. "We want to maybe see it for the 1st time & "We need your help tho & your permission.. & But not just a Comfortable spot but v..ulnerable Shut your eyes go there and we'll meet you on the other side.. During push it, (salvia version )they were holding each other & swaying so gracefully... They also preformed "you lied "... But most folks swear up & down they didn't perform any if that ...but me and a group full of friends (still friends to this day...we all remember them playing that cover song. But ..this might be at a different show. I could be mistaken.
Everyone knows well most everyone who is a Tool fan that Maynard and company really don't go crazy in terms of movement. The visuals and the music itself is what you are known for.
Ohhh Shit I gotta see Maynard!! I love his style the way he gets into his music. Its him and its beautiful. He is perfect to me. He is more than a singer in the baddest band alive. He is like the greatest.... beyond the best there ever was and ever will be.
That's what he does dude. That's just his style. He's not like most front men. He needs extra concentration. When I saw them last year, he pretty much sat on the back side of the stage opposite from where my seats were. I love to see more MJK as well, but I'm also lookin at the amazing visuals.
Biend, Maynard is so good live cause he has the Voice of God... And people don't really find the time to grab a camera and record Tool when they're experiencing multiple Toolgasms
Tool owns, period. Ive only seen them twice but it is the most artistically fueled show I have witnessed, although they didn't play the fuckin patient either time.
adam jones.... adam jones... adam.... im his biggest fucking fan..... when im on the floor in front of adam... july 27th.. hes such an inspiration.. for my music, as well as my own art...... hes the man. best guitar player ever... and he has the best damn amps and setup on the planet.
@Leaflessvamped yes there is some truth to that, but they never seem to come to where I live so I gotta live with these videoes. I wouldn't mind a live DVD. But he is right. Been watching metallica DVD's for years and tbh when watching them live it wasn't that awesome to see them as I thought, but if I ever get the chance to see Tool live it will be an experience of a life time cause they are my idols.
tool isn´t only excellent music - tool is a audiovisual concept and everybody who don´t understand their reason for making music isn´t able to make a fair comment
It doesnt take as long to tune their instruments as their intermissions, they drag them on for a while, much longer than other bands.. I think they do it for a number of reasons, your right, but I was merley suggesting that those little breaks would be more ideal for a small conversation.
If there were no rewards to reap, no loving embrace to see me through this tedious path Ive chosen here... I certainly.. would've walked away by now! I must keep reminding myself.. be patient..
@jerrysauceumn haha. i agree, my best friend got me into tool years ago and he worship's this band. tool is one of the elite hard alternative rock bands till this day. but i know alot of tool fans who take it to a whole new level lol. they're like hardcore dave matthews' band fans lol.
my favorite song on my favorite album of my favorite band
every little detail of this song is mindblowing
amen.
Agree
@@cynzia_d wow that's an old comment of mine. Still amazing 13 years later
@@tnix80 broooooo you are still alive. How does it feel to see that old comment?
Have you read the lyrics?
WHO THE FUCK TALKS DURING A TOOL CONCERT?
The brilliance of this band summed up in one song. Beautiful but powerful. Soothing but spellbinding. The way the instruments and MJKs vocals blend together is a match made in Opiate induced heaven.

i remember downloading this bootleg on limewire years ago. waited like 2 weeks for it to download. god i love youtube lol
This footage is from Tacoma, WA shot on November 11th 2001 and was filmed by ConcertFreak.
I've been coming back to this video for about 20 years now. And I still may...
Maynard sounds amazing
I must keep reminding myself of this.... best part
Sounds like a broken heart...
totally agree....

I never really loved it until I saw it in concert during the 1st 10,000 days tour but after that I was hooked
This tedious path I've chosen here!!! I certainly would of walked away by now n I agree with dude! Ridiculous talking his voice is killin it
Nobody should speak over Maynard ever!
I cry every time.
best vid I've seen of TH-cam of Tool...awesome.
i loved the Lateralus Tour prolly cause it was the first time seeing them live in 2002 i think and that album completely just floored me aside from the whole huge NIN Fragile era in that kinda timeframe

nice video, saw that song live back in 2002 and in brings back good memories
i can't believe how good this sounds!! and recorded from the floor. i hope i get to see these guys live many more times
@0506thekid I was at that show my first Tool show a great concert besides the knee deep mud of course. A visually and musically stunning concert. They did a great job, can't wait to see them again.
the little change to the vocal melody at the end of the climax is fucking GOLD.

Definitely TOOL's most underrated song! Adam Jones' guitar playing is the song's shining light, getting brighter as the song goes on.
The end of this song is truly amazing, he is such a great vocalist.
Just brings me to that happy place. I love music that explores the very vastness within you and everything. Yes I am stoned right now.
i love all the tool albums but i definitely think lateralus is their masterpiece. I think lateralus is possibly the greatest album ever created. Such real, thoughtful, and yet imaginative. is anyone with me on this?
"][" [[]] [[]] ][_ seems to be pretty damn awesome live. They sure can play their songs by themselves and do it well! True artists!

Absolutley amazingly mint. Our Maynard's last 'still may, and I' are bloody glorious.
This footage is from Tacoma, WA shot on November 11th 2001 and was filmed by ConcertFreak.....if anyone else is wondering.
07:13 is so fucking amazing - even live! they play perfectly, maynard sings perfectly. too bad he didnt bring his mixer on that concert. still jsut great though.
best band i ve ever heard!
is it just me, or is Adam's playing on this song sound just as perfect live as it does on the album? absolutely incredible.
Tool = best band ever. ESPECIALLY that they have awsome live performances like this one!
i feel ya bro. the lateralus tour in the states was visually trippy as hell...and i was sober.
I like both rush and tool, both have wonderful musicians. This is probably my favorite tool song, at least right now.
@270cheese I said "seem" only because I have not experienced their awesomeness in live concert myself, only seen some kick-ass epic videos of their live shows. Thus they do seem to me, and if they came to Finland and I saw them live, my mind would be blown away by their aura of pure awesome.
Tool is the best Live-band of this World!!!!
The Lightshow is Magnificant!!!
I LOVE TOOL
MFG MASTERTRAKTOR
Dont think that I could die a happy man before I have kids or experience Tool live.. Why did I just discover them a year ago.. Havent been listening to anything else since..

Dude, I will be there on the 24h, it's going to be a kick-ass show!
Their music doesn't get old or boring 😂😂perfect
@wonderwall135

this song reminds me of my 84 bmw... I think I had this album in the stereo for a year... good times
Epic.

One of the best songs ever

tool is awesome there is always gonna be somebody saying they are over rated or just a wanna be hardcore fan or just some weird shit lol
Tool owns, period. Ive only seen them twice but it is the most artistically fueled show I have witnessed, although they didn't play the fuckin patient either time.

Great sound quality!

That is a spot-on analogy my brother. Aint it just a shame. A moment of history turned into a moment of terrible dogshit.
@jerrysauceumn

I think this song is one of the best of all time.
how do they get their concerts to sound so much like the cd? i love it
They're warlocks.
