I've Been Here 17 Years - Time For A Change!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 6 ก.ค. 2024
- Welcome back to the kitchen, friends! Today, we're taking a break from cooking to talk about some important changes happening on this channel. First, a big thank you to everyone who has sent in cookbooks; I'll be opening them soon!
As we approach our 17th anniversary on TH-cam, I've been reflecting on the journey and the changes in the online video landscape. Since starting this channel on August 10, 2007, we've created nearly 2,000 videos. Throughout this time, the only constant has been change. From the rise and fall of different platforms to the shift towards short-form content, the landscape is always evolving.
Despite the challenges, I'm committed to continuing with long-form content. However, to sustain this channel, I'll be integrating more relevant sponsorships into the videos. For example, check out this new apron from Search and Rescue Denim - links below with a discount code!
I might reduce the frequency of uploads to manage the workload better, but rest assured, I'm not going anywhere. I've also added a join button for those who want to support the channel directly through TH-cam.
Starting tomorrow, I'll be on vacation for two months, but I've pre-shot videos that will be released until the end of August. Stay tuned, and thank you for your continued support. This channel thrives because of you!
Here is the link to our Apron: searchandrescuedenim.com/prod...

The pricing on the apron website is Canadian $ - the currency transfer to American makes the price of the apron around $72 USD.
If you use the discount code the price comes down to $60 USD.

It's been a pleasure working with you, Glen! Thank you so much for supporting our small business, and we hope we can support your continued success on TH-cam! Have a great vacation! - Cheers, Will and the S&R Team
Absolutely! It's a great apron, and I like working with local-ish responsive producers.

I'm definitely looking forward to ordering my Glen and Friends apron!
Small but mighty! I just sent your website to my hairdresser. If she likes the product, I’ll talk to the salon owner to see if she would want to get aprons for all of the staff there. The cross-back strap customization for the products is awesome!
The quality on those aprons looks great. I love being able to choose quality Canadian products from a Canadian company. Edit: this sounds like a shill comment. I promise I'm not a shill, just a conscious shopper!
@@sevenandthelittlestmew that would be amazing! Much appreciated! 😃🙏🏼
Please don’t stop Sunday Morning and The Old Cookbook Show.
I doubt it's going anywhere. It's the video I most frequently watch, and taking a quick glance at the views I'd say it's everyone's favorite by far!
Thanks for staying around Glen my weeks just wouldn't be the same without the content you produce. I can relate to you, as I am a producer of a small Channel myself
It's just not Sunday morning without that show.
I also love the ‘what’s on sale at the grocery store’ videos
Enjoy your vacation, Glen and Julie! Love the new apron. I’ll try to get one soon.
I am 61 yo. I don't like shorts. I'm actually happy to watch longer form content and I don't mind watching sponsor info that is relevant to the content. Don't change the style or content. It's all good.
100% ❤🙏AMEN!
I'm 74 with ADD (short attention span... LOL) and should like short, but find many of the "shorts" contain offensive criminal or sexual videos or SHOCK content so I don't even bother... and even good shorts don't give the whole story, it more like a one-liner joke... they can be funny but there is no build-up or follow-up
I agree. I'm doing everything I can to block all the stupid short-form content and keep watching all the "long-form" videos.
I don't think that's an age thing, although admittedly I'm not far behind you. Shorts are annoying. I notice lower intellect people tend to like the shorts whereas more thoughtful intelligent people prefer videos with actual content.
We dont care for short videos. Some are cute - but most are tweaky little sound bits. We prefer content that you can sink your teeth into :)
“The only person I can be is me.” 🙌 We wouldn’t want it any other way.
Without sponsorships and memberships, many of our favorite creators would go away, nothing wrong with taking sponsors.
As long as you're steering us towards a righteous product, you'll be doing us a service.
We appreciate YOU!
"Some people say I talk too much." Personally I find your format and style great. I like the explanations, the back stories when needed and the reasoning behind doing what you do. 👍
Especially with the old cookbook show, he adds a ton of value with back stories and explanations. Some people just have a bad day and want to get out frustration, even though they are objectively wrong. On the old cookbook episode that Glen got a particular hate comment, where he said Glen was talking too much, Glen was only really talking in order to add value and context to what's going on.
I love the way Glen presents each recipe. The back stories are always interesting. When I decided to actually make the recipe, the complete written list of ingredients and instructions are easily found.
I never understood those comments. I enjoy what he shares.
Lots of places to get recipes. I come for the talking. It's on topic and interesting. Even when it sometimes goes off topic, it's interesting.
I enjoy the technique tips, the suggestions for alternative methods if I don't own a certain piece of equipment, the alternative seasonings if i don't like a particular thing. That type of general empowerment and encouragement from this specific channel is what got me to start cooking. I probably wouldn't watch any other foodtube creator if i hadn't found Glen first.
The people that say that aren't in the right place and probably wouldn't stay here even if he did stop talking. I'm sure that's why many of us are here, because he does give us that info.
You talk just enough to have 700,000 people that want to hear you talk.
Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
You don’t talk too much; what you have to say and how you say it is why you have more than 600K subscribers. Keep on keeping on any way you want!
Thank you Glen for hanging in there!!! I appreciate it. I LOVE your videos!!!!
Thanks for watching Everyone! Julie and I are taking a couple of weeks in Quebec City and then heading up to the Arctic to explore parts of Canada we've never seen. I hope you all have a great summer!
If you are interested in the apron; they are made by a small company in in Vancouver Canada - really great quality:

If you use the discount code the price comes down to $60 USD.
A functional apron? I hate the aprons folks sell that are just for show. I need a good apron I can wipe my hands on :)
Sticking with you guys. You are polished and professional. Awaiting your return. Have a lovely holiday. Kind regards from London UK.
Always be yourself. I love everything about your channel.
Thanks for the update Glen, I've been a long time viewer and despite this being my first comment ever I have found your shows quite educational and even the odd time I haven't learned that much from any particular video it's always been entertaining. I was worried that you were leaving TH-cam so the idea that all you were worried about was taking on sponsors and selling merch was quite pleasing to hear. What you do here is worth it to many of us and everyone should be paid for the work they do. Cheers, Glen.
I could never recommend Patreon to anyone but have you looked into Ko-fi? Also, collaborations with other food/cooking channels seems to be a good way to draw new people in. For example I think you and Kenji would get along great and have a lot of interesting conversations!
Been a viewer for many years and we're not going anywhere. Will continue to watch your fantastic videos. Thank you.
TH-cam is going through some growing pains. But I think this is a good time to see what is working and what isn't and make the changes that you want to make.
I love your channel so much as well. Cool to see you here.
good to see you here!
Jared is here!!! You too have the same issue, stunted growth. And for either , i don't know what the course of action is that will solve that problem.
So glad you are not leaving. I like the length of your videos. I do not like shorts. Sponsorship is fine if it keeps you on.
I actually HATE shorts. That's for the kids. I'm older and have a longer attention span ... and actually am here to learn with clear directions from Glen and his conversational tone 😃
Yeah I hate shorts, too - it's why I'm on TH-cam more than any other social media. So annoying that they keep pushing shorts on creators AND on viewers.
@@Meggs23 I have a short attention span, but I also hate shorts/tiktok, its just WAY overstimulating, I don't know how people watch them, I guess you get numb to it after a little while
Glen - I just want to point out how much I feel most of us enjoy your current format. You talk to us like we are friends sitting around your kitchen island and that warmth that comes through is why we stay.
I think supporting good businesses that make good products relevant to the channel is a profound way to support local, ethical, relevant people who deserve support as well.
You don't talk too much. We will keep watching. So thankful you're not leaving!!!!! We love you just the way you are!😊❤
You absolutely do not talk to much, you talking is what makes these videos these videos.
I will be honest, I don't find advertisements to be inherently bad. I find intrusive advertisements to be bad. Dishonest advertisements are bad.
But honest advertisements that are properly integrated, and are advertising something you personally like are things that I honestly do watch. All it requires is effort and honesty on behalf of the one presenting them. I do believe you'll be someone who are trustworthy in that regard.
I hope you and Julie have a lovely holiday, and come back when you feel that you're ready! I shall wait :)
I can't live without my adblocker. The jarring to my focus by interruptions dumps my short term memory!
@@TheScratchingKiwi Adblockers are the bane of a creators existence. Yes you're sticking it to TH-cam... but you are also directly saying to creators that you don't value our work. The ads pay our way, and you've just said that you'd rather watch without contributing.
@@GlenAndFriendsCooking I totally understand how ad blockers are a total "screw you" to the creators. The creators deserve to get compensation for their efforts.
I am a youtube premium subscriber. I pay the monthly fee to avoid the commercials that youtube inserts. I have always assumed that creators are seeing some income from that. Am I correct in that assumption?
@GlenAndFriendsCooking Unfortunately for content creators, adblockers are the norm. To the point that browsing the internet without an ad blocker is seen as extremely foolish and unsafe by most (at least in my age group). It has nothing to do with respecting content creators and everything to do with safety, and of course getting rid of annoyances. Ad blockers are essentially the first layer of protection against malicious websites and pop ups. There's good reason why not using an ad-blocker is often compared to not using a condom.
Of course people who are trying to earn a living primarily from ad revenue take a hit, but that's probably a sign that that revenue model is on its way out and creators need to consider new revenue sources. That's of course where patreon, superchats, memberships, paid sponsorships, etc come in. Some genres of content creators like vtubers, game lets-players (especially the minecraft community), and probably most live-streamers, made the switch a while ago and they're thriving because of it. Their communities genuinely want to support them and like doing so in a more direct way.
@@richg0404 TH-cam Premium subscription money doesn't filter down in any appreciable amount to the creator. It's kind of sad, because I know that people who use it think they are contributing; but the amount the creator gets is approaching zero.
Glen & Friends Forever!
I couldn’t imagine Sunday mornings without Glen and Julie. I don’t mind ads at all, especially with great content that you provide. Thank you Glen, keep up the amazing work.
I'm here BECAUSE of how much you talk. Never leaving, I welcome the sponsors from you.
+++
Exactly, we come for the personality. No one that complains about how much he speaks sticks around for any amount of time, and they are likely only looking some ultra edited Binging with Babish type of content/recipes (which is not a bad thing), but it's distasteful to hate on something that you don't like and won't participate in anyhow.
*sees title, worries immensely* ... *reads description, breaths sigh of relief*
😃exactly
Came for a butter tart recipe, stayed for the chitchatting. Always my favourite part 😂 I can see and appreciate all your time and effort you put in to your quality content!! 🥂
YOU DON'T TALK TOO MUCH!!! My husband and I found you in 2018/2019 and we've loved your videos.
We understand these videos need to be profitable. Enjoy your vacation, take lots of pics, and tell us all about it when you get back.
You. Are. An. Authentic. PERSON. And creator. Thank you. I love your channel.
Glenn and Friends is the best cooking channel on TH-cam. Change my mind.
I'll say again, we love your long form content, your rambling, your general style. Thanks for staying
Thanks for staying, Glen! I hope The Old Cookbook Show continues to be the first video listed on my TH-cam every Sunday morning!
It's not really Sunday for me without an Old Cookbook Show 😃
My favourite too. ❤
Glenn saying "Circle Space" cured my depression.
Bless this show, one of my favorites on TH-cam for years.
Me too! But I was wondering what "Pond Water" was referencing.
@@paulasimson4939 AG1?
@@paulasimson4939 probably AG1 Athletic Greens - it's a pond water green color
@@paulasimson4939 My best guess is AG1, which definitely looks like pond water.
The only channel I've seen do Squarespace well is Paolo From Tokyo and I think that's because we all expect it so it's weird when it doesn't pop up on his shows!
Thank you, Glen and Julie for everything you've given us. Good luck with the new business model.
I'm not going to TH-cam bash. I'm going to bash the people who don't understand the difference between "a cooking show" and "a video that gives you a recipe."
Im sticking around, I have been watching your content for years and I am a better cook and baker because of it.
Carmelizing sugar to build hot chocolate on top, I've shared that video with so many people while making it
@@NoZenith - love that hot chocolate! I do the same.
We’re sticking with you Glen
I’m here for the long run. I like the way you approach cooking, relaxed and personal.
Don’t change! Your recipes are tried and true. I come back to them all the time. TH-cam cooking videos came along just as the Food Network stopped being good.
Artists deserve to make a living! I know, Glen, that your integrated ads will be you, and your vibe, and won’t detract. Enjoy your adventures and I look forward to your next stage.
Please keep on taking the time you need to show us what you are doing and teaching us well. Not just cooking, but history and your reflections and family stories. I love your channel.
Changing the apron gave me Mr. Rogers' vibes. Which feels appropriate. Your content is so good and soothing to me, like a grown-up Mr. Rogers, made for me.
Thank you Glen for many years of content. Ive been following you for 7 or so years myself and loved watching all the quality videos you put out on a regular basis. Appreciate all the effort.
I’m not going anywhere. I watch the videos for you and Julie. You deserve to make a living at this. Your videos are always quality.
Thank god you are staying on youtube! Also your talking, your personality, warmth, kindness, enthusiasm, encouragement are the exact reasons I watch. Keep talking - love it!!!
Glen, I'm so relieved, I thought you were going to say you were leaving TH-cam. Enjoy your vacation!
I love your videos. I don’t think they’re too long or that you talk too much. I hope you find the way to continue making your content. We need quality content like yours.
My favorite TH-cam cooking channel. Always entertaining and informative. Not a bunch of fluff and unnecessary edits.
I'm happy to see that you're offering ways of supporting the channel - I watch Glen and Friends more than I do Netflix and Hulu combined, I'd be happy to contribute for the content.
I don't watch TV cooking shows anymore. Glen and Friends has ruined them for me. He is infinitely better.
Your channel is the only cooking channel I watch consistently. Love your recipes, love your videos. Love that you are canadian!
Thanks for the honesty Glenn, it’s always refreshing. You need to do what makes you happy. The really messed up thing about “shorts” is that they follow a different algorithm, one which ignores your feedback. I know this from personal experience trying to get youtube to stop showing me content I don’t want to see. This is disturbing to me, because youtube continues to expose its consumers to content they find disturbing, violent, or triggering against their consent and feedback to stop. I rarely click on shorts for that reason.
I was so afraid you were quitting TH-cam!
I'm loyal and I'm still watching! Have a GREAT vacation!
I am so glad that you have shared this. I learned so much and I am the kind of person that loves seeing the product in use. Thank you-we are definitely evolving.
honestly happy you are using sponsorship, honestly would prefer learning about interesting products from someone like you than ads online or anything else!
Glen, I love your format. I love your explanations and background information. I look forward to the old cookbook show and unboxing the cookbooks that people send you. I'm a 73 year old man and am battling cancer. You are one of the highlights of the week. Thank you, thank you.
I don’t know how or when I found you on TH-cam, but you are one of my core people for recipes/techniques and I thank you. I personally appreciate honesty and authenticity, I’ll keep watching-for whatever that is worth 😊
Greetings from a Kiwi living in Australia!! I've followed and loved your channel for about 5 years now. As long as you are on here, I will be here!! Thank you!!!!
You do you! I've been here since day 1- Enjoy your time away. Let not your heart be troubled; this too shall pass...
Thanks for sharing! Honesty and integrity are always appreciated!
With regards to sponsorship, as a business owner, I say cash their checks! We appreciate you.
Definitely sticking with you. Love your videos. Glad you're sticking with it! 😊
Congrats on 17 years, I'm a subscriber and I love when you talk during your video - it makes the show more interesting. I especially enjoy when Julie pops in and comments on the food. I don't mind product sponsored during videos - if- the host introduces to product & affiliate links are nice and handy. Have a super nice vacation and we'll see you when you return!
Glad you're sticking around. Don't mind sponsorships. Actually appreciate reliable products 👍👍
In it for the long haul with you!
We will keep watching your perfect mix of educating us on the time period and history of the recipe along with the cook!!! Thank you for the long format, which is hard to find these days!!
I have always loved your channel, content, and you guys!!!! Will keep watching and staying right here!!! Thanks so much for all your work sharing these awesome videos with us!!!
Whew. My 83 year old mom and I faithfully watch the old cookbook show on Sundays here in Virginia and we were so worried when we saw the "change" in the video title. We are so relieved and support what you are doing! We absolutely love you, Julie and the talking...we learn so much watching and your channel enriches our lives in so many ways. Thank you, we look forward to seeing what's ahead!
Thanks for doing the work sticking with us Glen. We appreciate you. Good luck with everything!!
Hey Glen, I wouldn’t say I’m a hardcore fan. Definitely a casual enjoyer.
But I’m not going anywhere. I like what you do. Keep it up and don’t worry what other people think so much. We (the people) show up because we like you and Julie.
Thanks for being you. Proud of you.
Thank you for continuing your TH-cam channel. I love listening to your stories while I learn new techniques. I hope your channel continues to grow and provides in the way that you need it to.
I will watch whatever you choose to post. Articulate, informative videos will never go out of style! I will watch anything that works for me, whether it’s 60 seconds or 60 minutes.
And those people who say TH-cam isn’t bringing them your videos need to hit the subscribe button!
💕🇨🇦
Long form for the win!
Good Cooks know that it takes much more than 5 minutes to create a great item in the kitchen. Keep the long format shows!
One of your younger viewers, 20 years old. I appreciate your content and for sure isn't rambling at all; Love the old cookbook shows, keep them coming!
Safe and happy travels, and glad to hear that the show that I have learned so much from continues.
Honestly, I've been hoping (for your sake) for a while that you'd take on more sponsorships. I look forward to checking out any products you may decide to partner with! I know the products you choose to promote will be much more than "they gave me a boatload of money to hawk this to you" (though that'd probably be ok once in a while too).
You provide so much quality content and have been a source of positivity for so long, I hope you are able to continue and prosper.
I hope this works out for you! You are in my opinion the best cooking channel on TH-cam. I am constantly telling my friends about your channel! Thank you for your content!
Love your channel. Thank you for all the wonderful videos. You do NOT talk too much. Have a great vacation you two!
Thanks for sticking around. I really enjoy the channel and the conversation. Wish you both well
Glenn…first time commenter but long-time follower from Milwaukee Wisconsin in the USA. Love your stuff. I hope you’ll keep going. You do a great job!! God bless!
Please don’t ever leave my husband and I love your show!!! Watching you is such a joy!!!!
Thank you for not changing format and you shouldn't feel bad about sponsorship. Especially when it's something you like or would use yourself.
I despise short-form videos... they're for people with the attention span of a goldfish. I have unsubscribed from channels that have shifted to the bulk of their content moving to short-form.
Jeopardy at 7:30 weeknights, Max Miller's Tasting History on Tuesdays and The Old Cookbook Show on Sunday morning. Without these, life would be incomplete.
I completely support the decision to go with sponsorship. Even as part of the video as long as there's a clear break from the content. I grew up with three networks and commercials, so I get it.
As you consider merchandising, I'd buy a "Don't over think it" t-shirt or apron.
Thanks for being you Glenn! I love your stories and appreciate you sharing your knowledge with all of us. You're one of my favorites. ❤
You could also make a cookbook and sell it on your channel. End of the day, thank you for what you do.
Your awesome. I’ll keep following you whatever you decide. Keep on being you. That’s why I watch you.
Thank you for leaving the description! Enjoy your break and safe flying!
Your format on this channel is with out a doubt one of the best.
Thank you for putting up with all of us for the last 17 years.❤❤❤❤
We’re not going anywhere. We love that you “talk too much” and we’ve learned so much from your videos, both the cooking and aircraft types!
Thanks so much for not leaving TH-cam! I can't drink my Sunday coffee without your Old Cookbook Show! Cheers from Northern Ontario!
I watch all of your videos and love them. I’ll definitely keep watching and very much respect that you’ll only be sponsored by products you use, and you only use them because you like them.👍🏻
Glen, we're here because you are YOU. We like the content you create, like the chemistry you and Julie bring. We like your decision on HOW to do your sponsorship. Right now I can't think of another cook show host that licks the spoon! It's what every individual does at home. Your channel is real. Thanks very much for being you.
PLEASE! Do not change. The content you create is some of the best on TH-cam. Thank you for doing what you do. We will be here with you along the way. Do what you need to do! Enjoy vacation
As a viewer who found your channels only about a year ago, I love your videos and hope to watch you cook and fly for years to come!
Hit up the makers of the bowl scraper for the mixer. That’s got to be a No. 1 question.
BUMP! I will wait until I see a link to buy several of these.
I need a couple of beaters as well! I’ll cool my heels until you return from vacation and can include a link.
@@LukeEdwardBumpity bump!
I got two! Never knew they existed until I saw them on Glen’s show.
We will, we will, bump you! - I'd like to see the beater paddle too.
One of my favourite things about this channel is that you occasionally give these matter-of-fact breakdowns of the business side of being a creator. For example how your set works, how you used to work in advertising and how that transfers over to youtube, stuff like that. It's pretty cool that in addition to your videos on how to literally make sausages, you have these ones about how to figuratively make the sausage.
I'm a new subscriber and really enjoy your content, especially the Old Cookbook show. I love when I find creators who enjoy the things they make and share it with us.
It's interesting to see YT push shorts because they're trendy but a couple years ago, videos had to be about 10 mins to do well. Change is always interesting.
I have absolutely no issue with creators having video sponsors, as long as the sponsorships are clearly disclosed. I understand wanting to have relevant sponsors to the type of content you make, but as a viewer, I actually like when the sponsored product is completed unrelated to the video content...it makes a really clear line between content and sponsorship. But ultimately, enjoy your content, and hope you can find a sustainable way to move forward.
I have been very choosy about the TH-cam channels I subscribe to so I make it a habit of letting the ads run and not skipping them in hopes that it helps the creator of the channel.
I'm from Brazil and started seeing your videos in 2023, but I'm unable to say exactly when, since my mom died roughly during the same period.
My brain is still fuzzy and I have no idea if the first time I came across the channel was during her hospital stay or shortly after her death.
The thing I'm totally sure of is that your videos helped me a lot during hellish times. Your gentle and friendly demeanor are as important as your cooking skills.
It's nice and comforting to hear things like "don't worry too much about following this recipe exactly, use what you got at home" or "don't be afraid to experiment".
Thank you so much for everything, Glen!
I'm truly grateful for your effort to keep this channel going.
All the best to you and to Jules!
George.
Thanks for staying, Glen! Yours is one of the few channels I’ve kept viewing for years and watch every video you post. Now, off to buy a new apron… 😂
