another great vid I typically pack my food inside my pack and have the empty bear canister on top of pack with a Y strap. when I get to camp make dinner and pack the food in canister for the night.
My sister always uses a bear canister, but she packs her food in a food bag in her pack, and she packs her EMPTY bear canister on top of her pack. It LOOKS unwieldy, but turns out to actually be quite comfortable and stable.
I did this with my CS40 and it was very comfortable, but if you use the strap on top it's not very stable. I wanna create some sort of loop to make it more stable.
I think we are seeing that the OV backpacks were not designed for bear cans and there really isn't an easy answer. In the examples, you use a top quilt and a bear can which essentially fills up the backpack. Yes there is space in the roll top portion but that isn't an ideal solution with putting weight up that high. This is why carrying the (empty) cans strapped to the top is such a great option/function. You don't sacrifice the internal space required for all your other gear and food. Creating a sturdy option to carry a bear can strapped to the top of the CS40 would push me over the edge to buy that pack. I had to pass on it this past year because it just didn't look like a BV500 would strap well to the top. I don't mean to tell Brigham how to do his job, but this does seem like a low hanging option to improve the CS40 and doesn't take much away from it being an UL pack. I'd assume you'd get more interest in it with people doing the PCT or JMT where bear cans are required. Love your stuff team, this comment isn't meant to be critical. Thanks for all you are doing!
Thank you. I'm not sure I've ever put my BV500 in horizontally

Does the BV475 fit horizontally in the CS40?
