Thanks for loading these Glenn, takes me back to when we used to have a bit more of a laugh in the trade, its all a bit more serious now, just shows that you can still have a bit of fun and still do a cracking job, keep em coming boys!
I'm so pleased I've found you. I'm not a bricklayer but my dad was. I loved going to work with him in the 70s. I want to build a longish wall in my garden and after watching most of your video's I've now got the confidence thank you. Keep them coming.
Great stuff 😊 put a smile on me face watching that, especially the part in Germany. Makes me think of the proper brickies back in the day, my grandad was a bricky and my uncle went to Germany during the 80s doing carpentry
Like your vids mate v hard to explain to the young guns all there interested in is how many they lay in a day I am old school i did germany denmark for 5yrs in the 90s and i agree loved the random header bond looks great and works so well Loved it all still do miss them old 2df and 3df blocks Keep up with the vids best to you both
You pair are something else! Love every minute of your videos...genuine banter between the two of you, and you can tell you are the best of mates. More importantly the brickwork tips are quality. I have started watching a Belgian bricklayer, Jay Puyonbroek who describes a similar bond, they call it "wild bond". Looks really effective on that garden wall, I think I will give it a go....cheers boys, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much Jim. Just a small tip. It sometimes pays to lay a whole course of stretchers first, which enables you to change the bond more easily if necessary
Nice one, Glenn...I'll take that on board, always willing to take on new ideas! I just wish I was 30 years younger to take full advantage!...It's a great trade.
I watch a lot of brickies on youtube but you two remind me of the times in the school holidays id go to work with my dad. I didn't follow him into the trade but watching you reminds me of my dad so thanks for that lads. Keep them coming.
Great stuff glen only problem. I’d have getting some twat to cut the bricks all day , keep it up mate I now use hop ups as well where I can and my backs much better ❤️👍
Love you guys. Was in stitches. Great to learn from as well. I am a plumber who just wants to have a crack at brickwork. Thank you. I hope you are keeping well
rediscovering the genius of this inspires me to want to be a writer again. well, someone did once call me the 2nd best English writer alive after J.K. well. I just am fascinated this second time around watching and I remember when you were posting new videos. .
@@glennveness Awesome. Thanks for the reply. That bit you did on just using a small trowel, and perping / laying one brick at a time Dutch style kinda blew my mind. It goes against everything I was taught but just makes absolute sense. It just seems so much more - civilised - lol.
One other comment Glenn. Do any of your videos have an instruction on the best technique for perping a brick on edge to for either a coping or a soldier course, as in getting no gaps etc. I tend to butter one main half and then the other, but I guess there are other ways of doing it. There might be videos of you already doing it, new this channel so still working through them and there a lot lol. Do you also have tips on how to get a really good mix - in Wales the sand is mainly coarse rubbish dredged up from the Severn, it's not like the smooth London sand.
Another great video bys. Make me laugh and learn as well. So just to clarify, are you saying that the whole bond pattern is random? No joints line up,each coarse is differnt then the next?you are putting the headers werever you like? Thanks again for all the help and tips
Yeah buddy, no courses are the same. Lay six or seven stretchers, header, four stretchers, header, six stretchers, header and so on. It's a god idea to lay the first course all stretchers, so as to make it easier to work it brickwork. Don't be afraid of the occasional half bond. It looks ok as it is a wild bond. Thanks for your comment
Little Tip from Malcolm from Hillary's formally Brighton... get yourselves tile baton cut a 45% angle at one end cut to length 150mm to forming your new jointer... that bucket hande pop back in bag use only for blockwork... there is nothing worse than to see a nice stock wall finished with a bucket handle always finish with a FLUSH wood joint you will thank me for it... let wall go off a bit before jointing... once you start using this finish you will use it on most materials ... happy good weather bricklaying to you all as great show
Thank you so much Malcom. You won't believe this mate, but that's what I normally do with stocks. Really. The customer here actually wanted that finish. I can't stand a bucket handle finish. Really appreciate your advice. Funnily enough I just done a wall in stocks and used the rough side of those sponge pads. The bricks were used and really rough, but it gave them a great finish. Might put on one of my videos. Again thank you so much for your comment, glenn
TheOld brickies that I Worked with in The mid 70s as an apprentice Also wore suits to work & changed into there bib n brace overhalls . Had great Time . Still doing It but at my pase. Jim the brick .
I see from the Germany clips that beer and block work don’t mix ...How you got away with it ? God knows but there must be a tale to tell about it.🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
Sir Glenn, lord of the brickies. Great video

Never heard of the quarter bond before. I want to get back into bricklaying again, I have a Flemish bond planter I have in mind.

Hey m8 when Im laying bricks or blocks I have a problem with them tilting do you have any tips please
Difficult one Jack, but i would advise you to make sure you have plenty of mortar which should prevent the tilting a bit. Take care mate, glenn

I looked on Screwfix for the little platforms. What are you calling them? I could use a few of those.
Just google screw fix Alex, and put in platforms. You will never regret it if you get a couple. Thanks for watching mate
@@glennveness Right-o, many thanks. Good show.
How do u get nice full joints please
Glenn you are a proper legend... we all say PUG npw not GOBBO... its called PUG!!!!
And you still using a small trowel not a stupid 12inch 1... chuck the 12inch away every1!!!!!! Use a small trowel... more control.. better work
👍
You two are so funny, it makes a change from the boring TH-cam videos.

Can we have a link to the tele videos with carol vorderman and u .
Will see if I can
German wild header bond, deutscher wildverbund. But the german bricks are slightly longer and thinner, so u get the effect more.
I edit on VHS wolf so the bricks do look shorter on film. Great comment
@@glennveness yes, but as u know the german brick is 25mm longer than the english.
And I prefer it that you rake out the joints and point them after
Lot of that random bond around Cambridge. No rhyme or reason to is at all. Great hair lad 👍🏻🕺
Legend
It's all good fun Mark
