hehe a lot of junk food in the first part of shopping, I have always been curious of working this type of job not sure what if anything I would be the qualifications to work at a BC lighthouse and what the actual living area is like to have an Idea of what I could bring with , as for food I think would be at first rice and MRE , oatmeal tha tcould be made int oa type of bread ,that mixes with water of course the water would be a thing how much fresh water is available , then the clothing needed
The first time doing this was really just a crap shoot for me. haha. I was lucky as I had enough for a month but it did take me many months to really work out how much I eat in a month and revise my shopping habbits accordingly.
You need to have your marine radio operation certificate and your occupational first aid. Head to the Canadian Jobs site and search for asssistant lighthouse keeper.
Hi there! I'm very interested in applying for this job. We have a family friend that is doing this. I had a question about driver's licenses, and if it's a requirement? I already have my first aid, and some marine experience, and could get my marine radio operator certificate easy enough. Subscribed!
At least you don't have to worry about social distancing(LOL). Great video, Do you have internet out there and do you need any special license or training to do your job?
Hi Wayne, yes, social distancing has not been too much of a problem! The only Internet I am working with currently is cellular but I am looking further into getting satellite put in but it can be expensive. The things you need before applying is first aid and marine radio certificate. Everything else you need is provided once you are working
@@BCLighthouseKeeper Once you are working as in you are trained after hiring? I assume mechanical/electrical/plumbing issues that you can't fix with your personal ability, you have to radio out and get a tradesman out? Also, subbed and been loving the content. Very fascinating lifestyle.
@@Orlyrly There is a lot of on the job training and each station is different so you need to get to know how particulars work whenever you go somewhere new. For the big jobs, they get professionals to come in but for your average day to day things like painting and basic repair work, you are expected to take care of it yourself. Glad you are enjoying the videos. I hope I can bring many more smiles.
The link here will get you to the application page. It opens from time to time but you can send an email to the address there at any time. Before you apply, be sure you have your marine radio operator certificate and your first aid certificate. I will be doing a video shortly on how you can apply and everything you need before hand. emploisfp-psjobs.cfp-psc.gc.ca/psrs-srfp/applicant/page1800?toggleLanguage=en&poster=1100955

I was just curious the pay is around 60K per yr. Does the government cover the costs of your food and supplies?
You cover your own food and personal expenses. Rent, utilities and transportation to and from station, when you leave, are covered.
Smashing hat!
Thank you, it is definitely warm on my head. hahaha
So what experience/age would one need to have to become a Light House Keeper? And what type of certificates?
