I still love this. And I really love when drum corps play music we know.
thanks for posting this.
MS Alum 1987-88 & MSARP 2006
can not wait to see it live!!! over one week i am in the plane to the states and tour with the dci tour till the finals yes can not wait!!!! greetings from the netherlands
That awkward moments when the Scouts soloists are louder than the corp, but the BD trumpets need to have mics... and still aren't loud enough...
Teehee.
I know by 2011 the Scouts were no longer contenders but I love the 2010-2012 shows and 2011 especially
Saw this at the Big Loud and Live prelims show, and the audience was CRYING! We left the theater for intermission in tears! Great job!
This arrangement is so emotional. I love the scouts.
Madison is back. Oh my, they are back.
@eop279 I was at the SA show too. I saw all of the top corps except Carolina Crown and yes, those were all great, but Scouts gave me the best suprise of the night. No other corp managed to put the same big grin on my face that came over me when I saw this closer. It was the most pleasant surprise. Go Scouts indeed.
Wow...! Very good Jim....
1:50 how did I miss this before??
Beautiful horns. Good clarity all around. Good, confident balance, especially in the low-mid range.
Ahhhh. The Scouts :)
I was on the 50 about halfway up on finals night, and this was just about the most amazing thing I'd ever heard. Madison MELTED FACES like nobody's business.
one corp. we need back os the americanos they are in my hometown and they arent hardly playing anymore except for those parades... makes me so sad i wanted to be in there...
The 1 person who disliked this is a Blue Devils fan, he is pissed because the Scouts beat them.
I'm just glad they did a pop song while keeping their dignity. Most bands/corps can't do that.
I saw this show in Atlanta, and by the time they played this song, the crowd was already on their feet cheering for more.
Bravo Madison Scouts!!
This is the best I have ever seen. I've marched and been a fan for over 45 years.
@OCcontrakid We've been around for years.
I miss living in New York and have been missing it badly. I went to see the Scouts compete in San Antonio and once I heard/saw them perform this song, I couldn't help but start crying. LOL, They did a FANTASTIC job and I am very much pleased with this show. It was one of my favorite highlights of the entire season! GO SCOUTS!!!!!
@pinklmn i listened to this at work today.
@JMdCProductions as of last week you are correct, they just added the 4th
watching their show at finals - they made me cry, and that was just the pit, what a performance :)
ive been play in the high school drumline for all four years and have been first chair for the last three, ive been playing since 4th grade and this piece was beautiful it gave me chills and i immediately checked the window, IT WAS CLOSED
@missnics15 I marched in the 1988 Scouts and I'll tell you THEY ARE BACK! I saw the Big Loud and Live prelims show and the whole theater erupted at the last hit. It was awesome!
And FYI - the scouts MADE a PIANO on the field in 1985 while playing "Rhapsody in Blue." This was before pianos were allowed! So they do have a history with the instrument. Just sayin'!
The one dislike was a woodwind player...
@FCO0710
i did, which is why i dont go anymore. i dont mind that people like what they do now. i just dont anymore. i miss music in drum corps. the 2011 show is a cool visual show but not something i would ever listen to in the car like i do with the old stuff. thats all i want in dci: music i'd listen to again.
Saw the show in Akron a few nights ago. Only standing ovation of the evening. 2011 Scouts are awesome!
wow
@Apersonette93 The point was that music being popular doesn't make it not music. And Madison Scouts had done popular music in their prime.
just amazing! their show is so awesome this year.
everyone was out of their seats at finals when they played this...
I saw this live at semi's and finals and i swear i popped a tear.
I saw them in Denton, and when they started playing this song, I was like "Holy Crap!!!" out loud, and the people around me told me to be quiet. :(
WOW. I want to know how those people in the stands could remain sitting through that whole thing.
@3aldenford
i havent been a fan for years now. it used to be my dream to be in dci. now i dont even want to go to the shows anymore. i'll stick to watching the tapes of the 1970s-1980s when there was real music in the shows.
@trumpetman923
i enjoy piano but not here. like singing, it has no place in drum corps.
hope you all enjoy whats left of what was once an amazing musical experience. MYNWA
God bless america
Still projects a lot emotion :,)
@mrwright82 lawls it is the Alicia Keys verison...and no college band could ever hope to recreate the quality of sound and the volume that The Madison Scouts are able to produce.
i must say i prefer the DCI arrangement over the black college arrangement. im glad to see that DCI is venturing off into playing popular music
we're marching this song and i just wish it could sound as amazing as this.
How could someone actually dislike this?!
Just amazing......
@malletphreak i was talking about southerns
Frist video I've seen where the screamers hit most of their notes... This is so moving, goosebumps every time. Madison has some of the best music selections... From Malaguena to Rhapsody in Blue and everything in between... Just amazing.
@67NinjaPro812 That was my point exactly.
@reverberate10 Just because it's a pop hit doesn't mean it's not music. These hard working guys deserve nothing other than praise. It's an amazing show, no matter what their choice in music is. Stop making them look like trash, especially when they're probably looking at this right now.
It's so sad that the still havn't gotten the copyrights....Does Alicia Keys have ANY idea how many people have been touched by and love this closer?
@iamveryhappyrightnow I was in tears....soooo emotional and the musical arrangement was spectacular. Although I am a Cavaliers fan, I must say this show was my favorite.
@glucianpld i was there to holy crap...it was amazing
@missnics15 This is amazing music. You need to open up- a lot. Especailly how you put it, you're spitting in the faces of everyone in this corp and DCI in general. I personally was there that night, and I was blown away musically AND visually. Unless you are (or were) a judge for DCI, you have no right to insult these talented musicians.
@euphmmx My thoughts exactly... lol i didnt even know that 23 people liked it until you commented
Who's the screamer? They sound awesome this year.
wonderful
this was so fucking sick in drill last night. i never liked this song...until now.
God I can't wait to play this next year XD :)
@EnterTheLounge
I think this is actually Alicia Key's Empire State of Mind part 2...
I may be wrong though
i keep going back to 1:20
@TheDragonmaster18 which black college arrangement ? every black college has their own arrangement. you may have to be specific.
For those not aware, this is Empire 2, not the first one with Jay-Z. Very well done. Execution is a 97/100 (wasn't a completely 'together' start and screamers missed a few notes here and there).
@Masterofeverything1 i agree who disliked this must be a red
@jazztrumpetman i believe there are 4?
i can't wait for January camp! :D
MYNWA
@h4rdxc0r313 there are 3 screamers, two whom which are rookies
@malletphreak really? i have never heard of pop being in DCI up until ths show. maybe its the way they arranged the music is why i didnt recognize the song if they have done this type of music before
Awesome!
Long live the world trade
The scout's soloists are also on the track...and they are not being judged so they can overplay and be out of tune and it won't hurt them.
@missnics15 You mean when they played real songs that weren't pop hits?
Madison Scouts 1975. MacArthur Park.
Great, but you cut off the CROWd REACTION which completed the whole thing . I was right in front of you on the 50, 13th row . Thank you anyway ,a Bridgemen Alumni 76-77-78 . You bring back CORPSGASAM AAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!
that's not the full guard out there right? o_o or is it.....
1:52 - Chills. Every. Single. Time.
@procircuit844 See Southern University 2009 Empire State of Mind Mix.
@euphmmx i really have no idea what i was talking about when i posted that comment... lmao honestly wtf?
how did they only get 10th place?
@missnics15 if you dont like piano in drum corps then you are no longer a dci fan. every single one of the top 6 with the exception of phantom i think had keyboard in their show. times are changing. as long as they dont put stupid woodwinds in (which they wont) i will remain a devout fan.
@OCcontrakid not their drumline.......
@alexsmmb
This isnt Cadets...
@fir3gun and the problem is??? lol
damn
@Ventus98 Same thing happend last year.. we were walking to the stadium and these kids got infront of us.. then one of them said we were the cavaliers -____-
@TazmanianFire42 haha
Dude me and my partner kind of just looked at each other like wtf ha
I remember I saw them in a contest, and the Scouts had just finished warming up outside, and my idiot friends walked right in front of them as they were marching to the stadium. I felt like they had disrespected the Pope or something.
@missnics15
are you really that stuck in your ways? open your eyes
...........i need new pants
@MrOu83 They're hitting some notes...but they aren't even close on their intonation...a marching band has no place in comparison with the Madison Scouts.
I like the video, but what is wrong with communists?
i would of slapped them. thats a mega insult ..well coulda been worse and been called the blue devils ;)
*cringes* not a band....
Honestly...it didn't impress me at all. Not to say that it didn't sound good...just didn't have that umph. As far as sounding better than black college arrangements of the song...it's a rap song, It's suppose to sound gritty and rough. Unless you're playing the Alicia Keys version.
