A beautiful tribute. Rodney's 90 minute video, Selecting Hunters & Jumpers is now available on DVD and can be bought at www.ClassicHorseVideos.com - available for a short time this holiday season 2016 - Please share this website on your social media to let people know. His great tape was previously unavailable for 15 years.
He's not a honorable horse person. The 5th largest outdoor show in the country. I'm there. Younger, but I'm a fox hunter. His horse refused a jump. He started beating it. Not a corrective slap, a hard beating. The speculators booed, & yelled for him to stop. The announcer told him to leave the ring. The ring master walked out to remove Rodney from the ring. He was banned from the show. The horse was terrified. We wondered what happened to the horse. This incident was reported in a horse magazine. Believe the American Horse Show Association suspended him for a while from showing. Me, & many others lost respect for him. Being a horse person, his actions were extreme. Rumors among others said he was harsh with his horses. That beating certainly showed it.
I hate this video ...not because of the grainy footage , because watching Rodney ride , or being taught by him is like experiencing God on horseback . But because of the TOTAL GEEK doing the narrating . When he said that Rodney learned how to ride without ANY lessons , well ....Rodney had a BILLION riding lessons given him by his father , Ennis Jenkins , a man too often forgotten in Rodney's unparalleled career . There needs to be a book out on "Chief" .
I will never forget Rodney and Idle Dice. Ever.
