I think he does a good job at explaining how Wing Chun is more of a self defense system than combat sports and highlights the pros and cons of the system.

Nice sparring but don't keep your chin to high it can be very dangerous and painful

You did well. I would say 2 thinks. 1. Chin down!! 2. Don't start with Chain punches going forward! Instead bridge the gap and/or use footwork to change angles. Maybe a 3rd one: in close grapling range use hook punch/upper cuts too. It's in Cham kiu

It’s good to see you trying this .
I’ve crossed trained MA all my life ( WC / Boxing / kick-boxing/ BJJ )
Do you see in the clip how when you bridge your head is up and exposed ( no head movement plus low guard ) ?
A long time ago I was a student during the “ wing chun wars “ in the EU
My then teacher ( a formidable WC fighter ) accepted a challenge match with a kick-boxer ( this is all on record ) and was KO’d by a right cross due to exactly the same lack of head movement and effective guard / defence .
Based on hundreds of rounds of sparring this plus lack of mobility is the great weakness in the WC style .
If we think of it a dirty boxing / clinch fighting it’s far more effecting .

For ground figths in wing chun i suggest looking into dog style boxing/dishuquan, its got an oddly similar origin story to wing chun and fujian white crane buts the style is mostly focused on ground game and how to utilize inferior position and defend urself when on ur back. Also while doing judo as a kid and Getting grounded for using sticky hands in judo I've found a liking to having stand up wrestling matches where i can utilize chi sao to frame my opponent into a throw, sweep or stand up choke. Grappling is an essential part of wing chun and a big advantage wc got over other arts is the simultaneous grappling and striking where both ends up blending into one (using obliques to cause instability while framing is low key grappling in a way since the goal of the kick at that moment is to manipulate my opponent body and not to hurt my opponent) that mindset really helped my grappling and striking especially with how u can manage range with push and pulls and easily cause instability by punching someone in the face while were wrestling 😂

Very interesting. It's nice to see someone putting some pressure to their WC training. Do you feel that the height of your stance leaves you exposed to overhand shots? I noticed in the first round your partner landed a couple, and a kick that followed the same line landed in the second round. Personally I ditched the more classical WC stance in my training for essentially a slightly modified Boxing stance for that very reason.

good points, which is why timing/distance management are important, along with making the first strike count instead of pulling it as here...

I think more effective if use lead kick and stopping opponent coming in (stop kick) and the counters when opponent tries to jab, jab cross and bridge the gap off of that is where can get the chain punch to work. But you are taller would want to use reach

Good foreward pressure. However try to disrupt your opponents balance or enter in at an angle, this wil lessen the chance of getting countered.

Well, it is a nice training, but unuseful, in my opinion, wing chun is not useful in this time of situations, the mma guy, has total advantage, but like i said, is good for cardio, nothing else

So this's how you force your opponent to play the wing chun game.

“Don’t worry about getting hit when you close in unless it’s a knockout”?
How can you guarantee that charging in the way you’re showing WONT RESULT in a knockout. I’m also a wing chun instructor and your strategy is dangerously flawed, I hope you’re not teaching people this for self protection. No wonder our art gets mocked. Trading to get close to an opponent is not a viable strategy, there are many safer ways to apply the art…

    LOL,absolutely fake sparring.
Anyone who has practiced any serious contact sport for at least 6 months beats up any wing chung sifu, that's the reality.
