    My Dad showed me the game - he was an Old Time Teamsters Truck Driver and gone now. I know my Dad and I appreciate your video. I was in the hospital and my Daughter and I would play Tunk and Rummy it helped us both so much - it is just a good game. I’m ready to play Tunk anytime - you got the Quarters I got the time.

    Played a lot of this in high school (south FL). Are you sure you have to wait 3 turns to drop after a spread? I thought it was just that you have wait 3 turns to drop if someone hits your spread. You also didn't mention dropping and winning on the first turn if you have 49 or 50.

    • @BetterGameNight
      @BetterGameNight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The waiting 3 turns is the most consistent house rule I've ran into from others so I included it to be safe. But by all means you can ignore it if you want to play differently. And I've never heard of winning with 49 or 50 but I will keep that in mind for future reference.

      I’m From Middle Georgia and I’ve been playing for years. We never wait 3 turns after a spread but I have heard of that. Also we don’t flip the very first card after dealing. We let the person who goes first pull that card and either eat it or throw it out. We also usually play for cash and this video has me wanting to do a little gambling now. 😂

      when I played in VA they had the 50/49 drop rule. But when I played with old heads in WV it wasn't a thing.

    Great explanation, thank you! I've been reading some Black Company (fantasy book series) and the characters in the books play Tonk all the time so I got curious. I've never heard of it before, thought Glen Cook made it up, but considering the comment section being predominantly American and the fact that the author is a Vietnam veteran it makes sense that he'd like to include it, he probably played it with his own battle brothers all the time. Pretty neat how that works!

    Played for money entire bus rides in middle and high school (GA and FL). Easy way to make some quick cash. Recently showed my girl how to play. But a way we played is after cards are dealt if you got 51 in your hand you can drop without spreads or waiting 3 turn for a quick win

    No mention of hit and hold. That's another reason to hit someone so they can't " knock". .
    Also what's the point of having to wait typically 3 spins before you can knock? You can knock anytime it's your turn as long as you don't get hit

      @@BetterGameNight I haven't even checked if you've done Uno yet; but my house Draw 2's stack on and hit the next person. So if the order was Person A, B, C, D and person A plays a Draw 2, if person B has a draw 2 he can play it and pass on the effect to make it a draw 4 (total) on person C, and if person C has one they can make it a draw 6 (total) on person D. If person D has no draw 2 he gotta draw 6 cards, though he can still play a card that turn. Optional house rule is that Draw 4s have the same effect though traditionally we play without that. To counter to the heavy card draw there are only 2 more changes. 1) The deck is actually TWO Uno Decks, and we start with 10 cards at the beginning of game 2) You can play mulitiple cards that have the same number regardless of color, AS LONG AS the first color or number matches. So say a Green 4 is on the stack and it's Person C's turn. Person C has in their hand a green 8, red 8, blue 8, he places the green 8 down first then can choose what color to END it on as that will be the stack's color now. We have some wild uno games with these rules

    • @BetterGameNight
      @BetterGameNight  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spreads themselves don't have a value. Tonk is a race to get all of the cards out of your hand. If you put down a spread and on a subsequent turn you decide to drop, you win if the value of your hand is less than the remaining players. However, if someone has the same amount of less than you, then you lose. Does that answer your question?

    A drop is when no one has went out of cards I'm confused

    • @BetterGameNight
      @BetterGameNight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A drop can happen when you don't want to play the remaining cards in your hand. In the first example I was able to hit my opponent and myself to get rid of my last two cards. However, they won't always be possible. Instead, you can drop. You lay down the cards in your hand in front of you and add up their value. As long as you have the lowest value hand you win. Does that clear it up?
