  • The stingray in the video was actually an Atlantic Stingray, the most common found in NC Brackish and saltwater, it does possess a venomous mucus barb, sometimes two that protrude from the top base of the tail…..A lot of people incorrectly call these fish Skates. While there are Skates in these waters, what is in the video is actually a venomous stingray. There’s no such thing as a non venomous stingray. There are other ray species that are not stingrays….Only stingrays have barbs (that means the stinger)….Also a slate lays eggs like other fish, “stingrays” give live birth. So far we have witnessed two females give birth to 5 pups each after we landed them. Skates do not give live birth and skates do not possess a stinging barb. All of this information is readily available through marine biology that any of us can research……We have also hooked 3 Cownose stingrays while fishing…... The Cownose run in fleets and are common in brackish rivers during their mating season in springtime……I have had a person to tell me that Cownose aren’t in this river even after we have physically hooked and seen 3 of them up close……..Well, even Google can be their friend for information…..
