    Hello GP, you have a great team out there to get the job done. White Birch are very nice trees. You had some fun with that face cut. I am not sure if you had noticed discoloration in the center of the face cut or that during the back cut the tree broke away rather quickly. When you see discoloration in the center of the face cut or when cutting into a tree then there is a good chance that the tree is rot or hollow in the center. To maintain better control, try starting the back cut from directly behind or using a bore/plunge cut leaving a backstrap opposed to cutting from one side then around to the other side. Awesome golf shirt. Just for information, White Birch are prone for splitting and shooting back when they have a lot of lean. In your case the tree had a very minor lean. Have a great weekend GP!

    Your first cut is your most important cut, it should be flat and create the base from which you create your notch. You can not line up your fall when you first cut should be your second. I rarely create the notch from above my first cut. I always come up from under…it gives you a lot more control over your notch and, your fall line. Then, your back cut. With the center so rotted, you didn’t have much back cut before it released. That’s why the face cut is also critical…it often gives you a look inside the tree.
    That husky couldn’t hold a candle to a Stihl.
    You made good work of it. Really an easy fall because the top was weighted on the right side and the lean was gentle enough to easily control your fall line.

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks so much for the advice Keith. Greatly appreciated. I thought I would try doing the angle first for a change to see if t helped me more, but it appears it didn't. Thanks again - Yup love my STIHLs. :))

    Great video with lots of good information. I do have one question - how did the rope get anchored up high in the tree to help direct the direction of fall? I have a similar problem with a tree and had wondered how to tie off a rope at that height. Thanks -

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day DW. Bobby did it. I believe he used a string line with a 1 lb pouch on the end to toss it up there ( I forget what you call it but you can buy one from an Arborist store such as The Arborist Store or Universal Field Supplies). Then just tie the heavier gauge rope to it and pull it through and around. Hope that helps. Cheers!
