Met Jason at his restaurant and got to talk to him. He is truly passionate about whiskey and an all around great guy. Managed to convince him to sell me one of his remaining bottles he had at his establishment. It is a very good rye.
The Geese are the reason Canadians are so nice. Though ancient and forbidden blood magics they were able to remove all the rage, spite, and evil from their bodies and trap it into an animal. Of their two options they chose the Goose. The other option was the Moose but it is already an unstoppable killing machine and they felt is would be a very bad idea to make it worse. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
As someone who regularly deals with Geese here in the northern climes, I can say that I am not surprised at all about the guard geese. Geese are 10 percent honk and 90 percent pure rage!
Watch out for that Geese-stapo. It's good to hear nice words for Bulleit Rye. It's one of my favorite daily sippers. It's an easy drinker, but still somewhat complex. (Easy on the budget, also) Cheers!
I do like Writers Tears as something to mix with, it's very friendly. Its okay as a sipper (butterscotch, honey, vanilla notes), but it shines as a mixer. Will look out for the new variant.
So another good one, that is at probably every Bevmo is Tom Horan's Irish Whiskey. Very peach, pear fruit forward. It was odd at first to me, as I had a thought of what Irish was, but it really was an amazing dram for a low price too.
I have a question. Scotch is classified as being either lowland, speyside, highland, cempbeltown, islay or islands. Which of these does an ordinary Famous Grouse fit in to?
Brilliant Three Amigos reference, Daniel. This man Jason Brauner is more than famous... he's in-famous. Is he also known as the El Guapo of whiskey making?
Yup. *The Canada Goose gives even less of a shit than the Honey Badger..* Here in Guelph we have couple rivers (one going through the middle of the city) with several parks on the shores, plus Guelph Lake, and also a few ponds. Add to that the numerous rivers, creeks, lakes etc in the surrounding townships you could say we may have a 'few' geese hanging round. :-D (They're almost as prevalent as seagulls) The little bastards will spend 10 minutes crossing the street(sometimes alone, sometimes there's 20 or more), and if you get out of your car to shoo them along...well... it's usually a bad idea *AND there are flocks that don't fly south, they stay here all year long.* I was born and raised in a shoreline tourist town, ( Wiarton, Ontario), on the Bruce Peninsula, with Georgian Bay on one side, Lake Huron on the other, And I have never seen as many Canada Geese waddling around, as I have here in Guelph, only a 2 1/2 hour drive away. They can be quite territorial if you're not a goose. *If there's a nest nearby, fuggetaboudit.* They sit anywhere they want, in doorways, sidewalks, on rooftops (i've seen them on 5 story roofs, just looking around like giant pigeons) The goslings regularly survive 2 or 3 story jumps from rooftop nests, without issue.(is only way down, mom and dad don't carry them...lol) And if you're not paying attention, they will steal food right out of your hand, like a squirrel, when you sit in one of the parks for lunch or whatever. *Big fines for killing one out of season and/or without a permit, or harassing them, or their nests(without a special permit) $1100 or more.* *edit* (I guess we should be happy they're not swans. Those have historically been used as guard animals, and supposedly can break a human bone)
I sense a "How Rye is Rye?" episode coming up someday. You've both had an amazing ride as far as getting used to Rye whiskey, which strangely enough seems to be a preference of mine these days *cough* Wild Turkey 101 *cough*. It's actually something I've been wanting to explore more with my own small collection of whiskey too these days. Also please send me all the Irish whiskey please and thank you.
Hey guys, I wanted to know your trade mark comment about the perfect whisky is your favourite & the way you like to drink it, is it a slight dig at Richard Paterson in the way that he would slap the drink out the hand if he caught you with ice or full palm covering the whisky etc, one thing i also wanted to ask was his method of keeping the whisky in his mouth for roughly 20 secs which he says opens the whisky to more nuances etc although i am new to your channel coming across you guy early December 2019 and have watch alot of your videos now have you ever tried this way of unlocking new notes thanks guys Jack Liverpool, UK
I think you're supposed to keep adding more and more "Very"s to "Small Batch" until your entire distillery collapses into its own black hole of pretentiousness.
What could the geese be protecting a huge-ass bunch of whisky barrels from? Surely not a bunch of thirsty guys in kilts looking to pull a Rex on a whisky warehouse!

"Daniel Sized" Batch
