  • American Eagle Flight 5342, en route from Wichita, Kansas (ICT), to Washington, D.C. (DCA), was involved in an accident at DCA. The flight was operated by PSA Airlines with a CRJ-700. There were 60 passengers and four crew members on board the aircraft.

    Shouldn’t be having helo traffic crossing the final approach path for a major airport! Bound to happen!

      Well if proper procedures and communications are followed. And the helos stay underneath the approach path. And TCAS is used. Then in theory this should work. I think. Sounds like the helicopter pilot didn't acknowledge the communication about the incoming CRJ. Or maybe had too much workload at the time. Busy airspace. Got to be on your PS and Q's in that environment. If traffic had to get diverted because of the accident that would have cost the airlines some money. Military will always be conducting operations in civil airspace.
