    • @studentofspacetime
      @studentofspacetime 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that by "view", they mean the conceptual understanding of fundamental things like: The mind, the self, the phenomenal universe, reality, etc.
      Buddhism has deep and extensive literature about these things, and they had entire libraries, universities with debates etc.
      In other words, it's the theoretical/intellectual basis of the Buddhist path.

      There is much lost in translation, not to mention how long it would take to make it accurate. I think it's great Rinpoche can speak English. This is also a very simple lesson with no essence really missing. When it comes to instruction on how to practise, that is possibly when a small part will be lost. Because of this many Lama's encourage learning Tibetan.

      Anton Smuts I can tell you as both a Native American language speaker and an English speaker, even if you learn Tibetan, you will lose some. Because you won’t be understanding or speaking Tibetan as a Tibetan but as an English speaker translating Tibetan. Let me give you an example. In Mi’kmaq, we have adapted English to match our language. It doesn’t work the other way around. You adapt other language to yours. So we sometimes need words to translate to our language that either don’t exist or we couldn’t access in time or don’t quite match but must do because there is no other choice so we just come as close to the meaning as we can, but still some changes happen. So for example, when we are to try to describe a child who can pick up on other peoples’ thoughts, or who has dreams, visions or sees spirits, we use the word “sensitive” in English to describe, because it’s the closest we could match at the time English was forced on us. When non-Native English speakers use the word “sensitive” they mean someone who is moved emotionally easily. So even though we are using English words, we are not speaking much of the same language because our version of English is not the same. This is true for Tibetans speaking English as well, though they try very hard and do a good job, it cannot be avoided. This is why, though it is an honor to learn another person’s language it is best as a student to learn in your own language and as a teacher to try to meet the student with their language as best as they can or have a person gifted in translation. New and different concepts exist in other cultures and preserved through the languages. Your best bet, would be to learn Sanskrit to English and then Tibetan for a purer translation because the Sanskrit translates to English well and can act like a bridge. The other advice I would give is to learn the best you can in your own language and try to translate just the words that haven’t been translated for you. I ask permission to record so that I may study and look up words later. This way I don’t miss any of the lesson. I hope this helps. Good journey.

    Gelukpa, Kagyupa, Nyingmapa, Sakyapa and Bonpa - All part of Mahayana

    • @yeshichoden2578
      @yeshichoden2578 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The four schools are part of Mahayana, but not Bonpa. That is because long time ago before Guru Padmasambhava visited Tibet or Himalayas, the Himalayan people were already practicing a religion which is now known as Bonpa. This practice is all about worshipping local demons or deities, and performing black magic or tantric. It has nothing to do with the teaching of Buddha and enlightenment. So when Guru Padmasambhava visited Himalayas, it is said that there were many demons which were subdued by him and made them into Dharma protectors or deities and brought Buddhism into Himalayas. People still worshiped the local deities but the practice changed to achieving enlightenment rather than gaining magical powers. These four schools are also known as Vajrayana, because there are still some practices of Bon that got mixed with the Buddhist practice, but Bonpa itself has nothing to do with Buddhism

    • @m.c.deheiden3888

      No. He is an emanation of Buddha Manjushri.

    • @TenzinDorjee
      @TenzinDorjee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      M.C. de Heiden No he is not an emanation of Manjushri. When he was still a human, he died with a disturbed state of mind. Which resulted him taking rebirth as a Gyalpo(powerful spirit).
      His Holiness didn’t banned the practices of Dorje shugden but rather warned us of the harms it can do to our life. Since the time of 5th Dalai Lama the rituals practices for Dorje shugden were shunned. Obviously for good reasons. But the followers of shugden still practices it and even goes further to call names, hold protests against the Dalai Lama.
      I think they fail to understand that his holiness didn’t banned the practices per say but he said it is individuals wish to do whatever they want but if you consider me as the root guru then the samaya (between a student and the teacher) will be broken

    • @chrismcgahee893

      not sure if i would say he knows nothing of the other lineages, Its probably more of he is just wanting to give a very broad overview and not overload the short video with too many specific details of each of the lineages. However His background if I'm not mistaken is nyingma and kagyu so his expertise, practice and knowledge is more so with those 2 I'm assuming. There is an extreme wealth of information about all 4 lineages that can be found out there if you are interested in a more detailed explanation of the background of each and specific practices and history. It seems its somewhat more difficult to find information about Sakya than the others 3 from what I can tell though.

    • @TenzinDorjee
      @TenzinDorjee 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For your information all the lineages traces it’s origin back to the Buddha. So the Master is actually right. It originated in India. If not then how can you procure a new lineage just like that ?
