    I loved this lesson. The root is like a period in a sentence and the 5th is more like a comma.

    I've been playing for 20 years and had dozens of teachers during that time (including a jazz degree). No-ones been able to break down complex improvisational topics into bite-size pieces that I've been able to learn and implement into my playing almost instantly like you do. Thank you so much for the wonderful videos you're creating and how easily you're able to convey information

    An easy way to remember the location of the 4th and the 5th is that the 4th is always directly below the root and the 5th is always directly above the root - except of course for the B string where the guitar is tuned to a third instead of a fourth so you have to 'add' a fret.

    I am slowly getting to where I am no longer over thinking this stuff. If drunk folks in their 20s can master this stuff and rule the world, there is no reason why I can't figure it out easily.
    Awesome video, thank you for sharing!!

    What a good way to start the new year with an intelligent well thought out lesson from Mr. Blue. Happy new year. So I'll be memorizing the 5th's message (I got more to say) and its locations:(one on south-east and another one on the south). I got both of your soloing books and they are a great value. Thanks.

    Fantastic video Blue. Thank you. Do you have a diagram or chart showing all 5 pentatonic shapes and chords and where the roots and 3rd, and 5ths are located in each shape / chord?

    Hey Blue,,,,, just found your channel..... and like it very much...... I've learned a lot already...... I'm wondering if you have a lesson on the chord/scales connection for the minor chords.... like you do for the major chords.. which is very helpful.....
    Thanks so much for all you do for this community Blue....
    Russ

    • @GuitarLessonsVancouver
      @GuitarLessonsVancouver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Glad it's helping! I don't have a video yet on a that kind of scale-chord connector for minor. But I do have this video which shows the relationship between the chord shapes and the minor pentatonic shapes. It's a similar approach: th-cam.com/video/Ivngg0yS4jg/w-d-xo.html

    Great lesson, this was a real eye opener. Is there a note that would work as an exclamation point?

    • @GuitarLessonsVancouver
      @GuitarLessonsVancouver  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha thank you. Maybe the minor 7? That might be pushing the metaphor a bit.

  • @retiredguyadventures6211

    When playing over a 12 bar blues I thought you were supposed to target the root when playing over the 1 chord, the 4th when playing over the 4 chord and the 5th when playing over the 5 chord?

    • @GuitarLessonsVancouver
      @GuitarLessonsVancouver  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is one option of many. That would Targeting the root of each chord. But you can also target other notes of each chord.

    In major, be in C,?

  • @claymathes2701
    @claymathes2701 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love your segment? Are any 5th,s in major?

    • @GuitarLessonsVancouver
      @GuitarLessonsVancouver  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely! 5ths are the same in Major ... same distance apart. Thirds are different in major though. So we have to visualize the intervals with the major pentatonic shapes.

    • @nadeemafzal8984
      @nadeemafzal8984 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great lesson
      My way is that The 5th is always immediately above the Root
      So if root is on 7th fret D string
      The 5th will be on 7th fret A string
      Only exception is when root is on B string
      Major or Minor pentatonic makes no difference

      Thanks, more on targeting for thirds and sevenths are coming. I do have this one from a while ago that targets thirds in a particular way using enclosure: th-cam.com/video/rGmPOAu4rc0/w-d-xo.html
