    Definitely making the world better.

The different technologies you use to examine these devices is awesome. The CT scan adds depth you'd not appreciate during your typical physical teardown, and the part ID game (that frustrating bloody thing it is) is well presented with the overlays. Love it!

David's entrance immediately calls up memories of Clarissa Explains It All. I hope that was deliberate, it's really amusing. Also really enjoy these teardowns, of course. The video production quality and the information density is on point.

      Yes, deliberate Clarissa gag! 💕

Fun fun fun, thank you. Being a product designer and have extensive experience with manufacturing, it's still good to "peel back" the EE unknown and learn more about things. To add to that, we've just ran a KS campaign with a non mechanical, non electronic meditation cushion.

Love these tear downs. Engineering fascinates me and this was such a cool gadget to breakdown

Would it be possible to re-spread silver on the conductive fabric if the back ones have faded and make it working normally again?

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  ปีที่แล้ว

I'm not sure, I think it's manufactured using a plating process so my guess is no, but you could replace the conductive fabric entirely, perhaps. Also they do sell replacement bands for the S.

I love this in-depth of a teardown, looking up part markings etc. I bet the mystery ST chips are something like an instrumentation op-amp for handling the very weak signals it's getting thru the pogo pins, along the idea you mentioned. This device does seem more practical than the one Lady Ada tried a while ago, which was trying to let you control things with your mind but which was reaching a bit farther than the technology was really ready for.

13:00 if those are not accelerometers, what does the device/app use to determine the various Sleep Positions in their graphical data plots (Upright, Left, Back, Right, and Front)?

The CT scans are awesome. Just a thought, you could leverage TH-cams “short” format if you used an MRI type scan instead.

I assumed that devices like these would have 24 or 32 bit ADCs. At this price point I was expecting ADS1256.
perhaps some of the unknown ST chips are custom ADCs with an EEG frontend?

I found your channel after the secret santa run last christmas, but after the Oura tear-down popped, I was hooked, especially having had an Oura for years and also dabbling in electronics a bit for a few decades. Love these videos, especially with the xray see throughs.
Edit: Incidentally I saw the lumafield and xray in the Oura video, but I really only understood what lumafield could do a few days ago when they did a collab with Savage on tested for a visit to show a bit of the process in detail, so immediately recognized it when it popped up here again.

He there. This video is breath taking. The detail. The scope. Thanks. Is there something we can do with the QR codes?

Always fun to see that there's no "magic" in these devices. The base components are more or less recognizable and assembled in a fairly predictable fashion. Love your teardowns! Thanks for sharing!

Wow this was great!!! :) I bought two muse s units used and it seems the signal is garbage when I use "muse monitor" or the open source "muse-lsl" software. I get a solid 60hz signal so I know it's capturing something, but the waterfall in "muse monitor" and a fft analysis of the data dumped by "muse-lsl" just show a flat field with no peak in any of the frequency ranges. I hope this teardown might be helpful in identifying why they are faulty as they are both out of warranty...

X-ray vision teardown! Another step in the evolution of wearable neurotech. Thanks for showing the guts of how to design wearables for manufacturing. So much effort went into making that thing. There's going to be more and more of this stuff attached to our bodies and it's important to know what's going on inside them.

Did you get $399 worth of value out of this device? Would anyone? How does this device compare to similar products from other vendors? Would you have gotten the same benefits from just noise cancelling headphones alone? Best wishes.

Ha, I found one! Thanks to digikey I could easily search "st 16-qfn" and look for patterns in the markings.. K1G is TSV524IQ4T which is a quad "high merit factor" op amp, so basically what you guys guessed: processing the signal from the sensor pads. K193 is OA4ZHA33Q, a quad "High precision 5 µV zero drift, low-power op amp"

Managed to scan the Data Matrix barcode on the SH 141, it decoded as 781410TU03SF073 which is probably mostly a lot number but maybe you'll have better luck. The 8-DFN "K33" looks like another st op amp, this time an smd code lookup site actually worked. (I tried posting the link but the comment got removed.) Part OA2ZHA22Q

Biofeedback devices are interesting. It's definitely nice to see the technology becoming more widespread, as I think people could really benefit from this approach instead of e.g. going straight to a pharmaceutical intervention. This alternative in general can be nice and affordable too, especially with the affordability of DIY components :)
