  • In this video we are taking a quick look at a factory in Liuyang, China that makes fiberglass mortars for consumer and profession fireworks. The mortars being made in this video were all for consumer shell kits.

    How does the fiberglass get picked up by the lathe to begin with?

    • @JoelRobinsonPyrotechnics
      @JoelRobinsonPyrotechnics  ปีที่แล้ว

      They had some type of sleeve they would slide over the wood dowel, then start coating with the resin mixture and fiberglass strands.

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoelRobinsonPyrotechnics Hard to understand how that sleeve could grip the dowel and later release it.

    • @goodmaro

    How many times can fiberglass mortars be reused?

    • @JoelRobinsonPyrotechnics

      As long as the plug is intact and there is no visible damage (crackles or flakes on the fiberglass, plug, etc) it should be fine to continue to use.

    None of the ones from World Class have nails. The plugs can just slide around in the tubes without the screws holding it to the base but even then you could just pull the tube off the base. I have a video I shot recently. I have to throw a bunch out. The ones from PyroKIng use a wooden base not that plastic garbage bases.

      Fiberglass is widely used across the world in the firework industry. HDPE is also used. Very large shells will use steel tubes and be buried in the ground, but you only see that at special events.
