    Don't forget Auto-Pilot skewered and electrocuted Wall-E's mainboard, the initial reason Wall-E was telling EVE to go back to Earth. But after she replaced his mainboard, we're to believe he's essentially been factory reset. He's not Wall-E anymore, he's a Wall-E unit, Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class.
    Also, the debris field around Earth is already there in real life. Communication satellites of various types that have been sent up with no plan for reclamation. They end up breaking down, and are simply replaced with others. It's a legitimate concern the world's space programs have to take into account with space missions.

    Late to the party so I'm sure others have answered before me BUT wall-e is a personal fav so I don't care lol, here's some answers to a few of your questions:
    The "exhaust/explosions" we see on earth are actually dust storms! these happen already in other deserts and cities in the present (Dubai and Vegas both get them fairly often), but to see them on the east coast of the US is very indicative of how out of wack the environment is.
    Director Andrew Stanton has stated that the population is kept up on the Axiom "Brave New World" style, so basically artificial wombs and test tube babies.
    Our WALL-E developed his personality over the centuries via machine learning, rather than suddenly just "glitching" into a person like Short Circuit (though his design is very much a bit of an homage to that movie). And the only reason he's not rusting away like his compatriots is that, whenever BNL pulled the plug on clean-up, they missed him when shutting the others down remotely (which also explains why the others all seem to have frozen mid-work). Whether that counts as good or bad luck for him is arguable.
    You were correct to make the 2001 A Space Odyssey connection, because the creators put lots of references to that movie here, AUTO's design being the most obvious one, but Captain McCrea also has one of the film's astronaut helmets on his shelf, and both Blue Danube and Sprach Zarathustra are in the soundtracks of both. And while it's not mentioned in-film, WALL-E's cockroach friend is referred to as HAL, a shout out to both HAL 9000 and the late screenwriter Harold "Hal" Roach.
    Stanton gave screenings to both Michael Crawford and Jerry Herman, actor in and writer of Hello, Dolly!, respectively. Jerry Herman was reportedly so moved by the love story and the inclusion of his play that he was brought to tears in the theater.
    MO's an excellent favorite to have! His name stands for Microbe Obliterator, which would explain why being in the Axiom dump didn't send him into conniptions; he's after germs, not just any old grime.

    Wall-E is an old solar-powered robot, that's why all the electricity from the Axiom bots like Eve and Auto made him go crazy, because they're generating millions of times more energy than he is; it's also why he kept sticking Eve outside during the day, because he thought she was out of battery.

    Happy new year! I enjoyed this movie a great deal, but you’re absolutely right, this has always felt like a big swing from Pixar. It’s a very atypical animated film and I can understand it not being everyone’s favorite. It’s up there for me, probably in my top 10 animated films, but I fully recognize how unusual the movie is. Not in a bad way, just unexpected I think.
    One of the things that got me the most is how easily you can see our own world devolving to that degree. It was interesting to see Pixar tackle a bit of commentary in that sense. I also really appreciated the limited dialogue and how easy it was to sympathize with Wall-E and EVE, even with them being robots. It was refreshing to see a different take on characters in an animated film. Ballsy, I think. And still a very sweet movie.

    • @AdamfromFWCI

    Wall-E reminds me forcibly of Charlie Chaplin. He never really speaks, but his physicality says it all.
    He took her outside, I think, because he's solar powered, and assumes she is too.
    I love how emotive ALL of the robots are! Even their own version of the Isle of Misfit Toys! XD
    I love the little obsessive cleaning bot!
    I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this movie, and how much fun it was! Thank you for that!

    The film/songs that Wall-E listens and watches to is from an old musical, "Hello Dolley!".

  • @socialismandrevolution8299
    @socialismandrevolution8299 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Honestly, I think Wall-E kinda does an even better job than Idiocracy with this dystopian scenario. With Idiocracy, the problem is kinda just shown as "stupid people", and the solution is for a genetically superior guy from the past to rule over them. Wall-E also shows that people being easily manipulated is a problem, but in showing BNL again and again, it also makes clear that the main problem is corporate power and propaganda and shows that even in this dystopia, people ultimately still have the potential to do good. It's quite beautiful, especially since its ending is not quite an "and they lived happily ever after", but still hopeful for humanity.

    I still love this movie. It is impressive how much emotion they can convey without saying a word. It was really well done.
    The people on the Axiom were, to me, a kind of warning of what can happen to us when we use technology to have all of our needs met. We become more sedentary and uninterested in a lot of physical activities. And those huge dust clouds were, giant, sandstorms that were rolling over the land. Without vegetation to secure the soil and threes to break up the wind, those storms would be like the ones in desert and plains.

    also came up with my own theory that when we meet walle he is around 700 years old and that around 300 to 400 years after he was created he had became the last living walle as the others died out and also around that time he became his own unique robot growing a mind of his own and that at the end of the movie him and eve are by the tree making walle around 1,400 years old eve might be the same age but hard to tell since she is very well kept but thats my own theory on walle that i have grown up thinking also i pity auto cause he is just trying to do his job and protect humans like he was programmed to do so he isn't technically a villian

    Here's a vote for Ratatouille.
    Beyond that, this movie is a combo love story and commentary on climate change. It works well as both because it's less heavy-handed on the eco message (yes, showing a world covered in garbage is less heavy handed, they didn't have some 'evil corporation' deliberately doing this for greed and not caring about anything else, and the extent to which said 'evil corporation' showed up _being_ bad was fairly minor). I think one of the things that _makes_ this movie is how little talking there is in it. We've grown _so used_ to certain things, like talking in film, music with every scene, laugh tracks, and so on... we've somewhat _forgotten_ how to fill in the blanks _for ourselves._ Not entirely, of course, people still read books where all the _visual_ and _sound_ has to come from us, and I don't see that _changing_ anytime soon, but... I love this movie for making _the audience_ do some of the heavy lifting interpretation-wise. Not a lot, just a bit, but at least it's _there._

  • @Autoskip
    @Autoskip 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So, you did miss "BURN-E", a "meanwhile, elsewhere" kind of short (similar to Jack-Jack Attack and Auntie Edna), but this one was things happening throughout the entire movie, and there was no one time when it would have made sense to switch to the short before continuing.
    Also, If you watch Ratatouille, there's a Short that goes with that (Your Friend the Rat), but that's just the a couple of characters from the movie getting a bit more screen time - if you decide to watch that short, watch it after Ratatouille. (and regardless, Ratatouille is full of delicious looking food - be prepared to get hungry watching it)

    In terms of how reproduction works on the Axiom, considering the fact that the people don't know the others exist outside of their screens and cannot physically perform the "actions" required, and have to be assisted by robots doing everything for them, let's just say that the robots have to "assist" them with that function, as well. But, since it's a kids movie, we shouldn't be asking those sorts of questions here. Just try not to think about it too hard, or you'll be disgusted by Pixar movies FOREVER.
