Quick question, ru checking ur fluid because it won't move in drive but will reverse? Cause that's what mine is doing! Jw what u did if that's the problem. Thanks
@user-ll5si8uh4r naw mine is just a little slippy and hesitates to shift at times. Yours sounds like a combination of failed solenoids and low or bad fluid and filter. I could be wrong.
Right location, but your test only determines if there is enough fluid to safely start the car and to begin warming up the fluid for further testing. These transmissions use only Dexron VI certified fluid. To truly test the fluid level, the fluid temperature has to be warmed up to a certain range (185 to 203 degrees F. ) and checked with the engine running and only after going through the gear for about 3 seconds each to distribute the fluid before testing, and then waiting three minutes at engine idle for any foaming to dissipate . For anybody contemplating this procedure, check a service manual for the precise procedure for your vehicle. These units are not sealed for life, and every transmission leaks sooner or later. On 2.4 engines, the fluid is checked every 15,000 miles, starting at 45,000 miles; I would change it every 60,000 miles, or sooner if it smells burned or is very dark in appearance. Fluid is cheap; transmission rebuilds are very expensive.
If fluid comes out the hole when the engine is off, how do you check the fluid level when the engine is running and the tranny's warm? Wont the fluid be higher and run out the hole?
@@curtis1951 No, the fluid will be where it should be if done as described above; it should only come out if filled too high. “While the vehicle is idling, remove the oil level set plug. Another beautiful design from gm have to put car on a rack start it make sure trans temperature is just right and pull a plug under the car too check if full can't tell because of no dipstick and lower to add fluid through a full hole still unaware of how much it needs, these car designers need to be shot really, they do it so trans will go bad from too much or too little fluid and have to have transmission replaced, how did the older cars last so much longer you could at least check or change fluid and not wind up tearing up transmissions just by having dipsticks, the real dipsticks are the designers
A thousand thumbs up. You seem to be the only one commenting that does not accept such a crappy design. This is why manufacturers get away with this stuff people let them .
Our 2012 Malibu has a black twist off cap directly to the right of the engine center and on top of the transmission, you can identify it by the gear imprinted on the cap. This is also where to fill it if needed. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you very much I just got this car and was wondering where it was at. I don't know why Chevy put their transmission on low priority because my 04 did not have a dipstick you had to put it on a ramp and check it so I figured that's probably what you'd have to do for this. But I really appreciate it now I can get this done.
It should be noted in your video that this is wrong I'm not trying to be rude I'm a mechanic. And I used to work for Chevy. And this sounds like a pain in the ass but this is how you have to check the fluid on 2008 to 13 Chevy Malibu with a 2.4 engine. The plug that you showed in the video is the right plug but the car has to be running and level in the air. Make sure the car is warm and run it through all the gears for 3 seconds for each gear before you pull that plug if some fluid drains out then your level is fine if nothing comes out add fluid slowly until it starts trickling out. If you do with this with the vehicle off you will drain fluid out of your transmission which will lead to a low transmission fluid level.

Until it leaks out from the bolt he showed
