Things I forgot to mention. Disc brakes on a Bug make the front end slightly wider. Like about 1/2 inch on each side. this is why they started the narrowed beam thing. Also I a early bus the empi ones do the same thing ( wider front) The AC industries keep the stock width on the later models.

Great video. Well-defined subject and right length, as far as I'm concerned. Your knowledge and practical experience is amazing.

Hi Mike Great content really helpful stuff. I commented on one of your recent videos with regards to the situation you find yourself in right now. I like you am starting to realise you can’t do all the things you used to so easily.I have been self employed in the UK since I was 20 now 61 . I know exactly how you feel and what you mean by burn out. Someone once told me ( can’t remember who ) that you should try not to look at the big picture. Prioritise and concentrate on one thing at once starting with the most important otherwise you just get totally overwhelmed. I ve done this myself and I now know that getting one problem done and dusted picks you up to get on with the next also I’m not to proud to ask for help anymore like I used to be. Hope this helps in some way.

    Good subject, Mike, thanks.
I did the empi front disc kit on my '58 bus, but got the '67 only double MC, and chucked the single MC that came with it. Used the 10lb pressure valve that came with it, though, to balance out the rear oem drums, but Q: the '67 dual MC I think already has valves in it, so I'm trying to sort out the pressure distribution issue to get it right....I guess I can call empi for the definitive answer, but what's your experience? Any insight?
And about the getting old and worn out by life/work stuff: I'm 63, just came off a 24hour air medevac friggin marathon, saved 3 lives, and still in the game. Lol, the all-star game is what we train for, you'd be surprised what you can do if you really need to. Hang in there buddy- the VW world appreciates you 😂✌️

I love AC Industries wide five kits for street cars. Some people have more exotic tastes but those are perfectly fine. In my car I bought the EMPI studs and put them in with red Loctite. I believe the torque is 75 ft lbs.

Good video, Mike. I put fro t disc brakes on my 66 bug and that worked out so well I’m now putting them on my 69 single cab. Of course you get all that front-end stuff off and you end up doing ball joints, tie rods, shocks … what a can of worms 😂

Variation of your channel is nice 👍 I run flipped spindles and straight axle in my bus, with type 3 rear drums and stock front drums + dual circuit master cylinder = good and safe brakes.
Being self employed is challenging - I'm your age, and sometimes think about a cheesy 8 to 5 job where someone else can do the thinking 😉 Just got some more work, but lucky me l caught the flu and have to push back clients...

Great video, Mike. Yeah, just bite the bullet and get a bigger master cylinder and discs all around. Saves time and headaches. Done deal.

Type e ez brakes for buses is amazing, because you can go to your local auto parts and get all the stuff or rock auto.

It’s best to go with Type 3 rear brakes with a straight axle kit on a Bus. And while they are expensive, CSP disc brake kits are excellent quality. And available for use with 14” wheels. Sometimes you just have to pay up a little.

not much space in there. But if you go with dual reservoir master and disc brakes the pedal is much easier to push FYI. hydraulic leverage.
