IMO this is the canonical ending, Silas is beyond saving at this point, he already killed a lot of people just to avenge his brothers, he has nothing left lose.

And yet look at all the death you’ve done caused, Silas has killed a hundred times as many brothers, he said so himself, so why should you walk off and not him?

Coming a bit late for this topic,(just finished the game) but the redemption ending just doesn't make sense and it's actually a really lack luster ending. But the revenge story does make sense, it is not a happy ending but really does feel like a really good wild west revenge story and gives a much longer lasting impression. By that point he had killed so many people he way beyond redemption, saving that one last life(who had claimed it's fair share of inocent lifes) just, doesnt, make, sense.
Cracks me up that the game actually wants to pretend this is the bad ending. "Revenge is bad" stories are always so pretentious and up their own asses.
Only in the little "Nuggets of Truth" collectables that you find throughout the game; apparently, a lot of the outlaws you fight as Silas Greaves were in the employ of Juan "Juarez" Mendoza, the main antagonist from the first two Call of Juarez games. I get what you mean though, I feel like Techland could've just released this game as "Silas Greaves: Gunslinger," or something like that, and it would still have been a great game on its own without so much as a reference or a whisper to the Call of Juarez games, although they probably thought that using the old franchise's name would help sell the game better.

I bet for instance ubisoft could have released AC Odyssey (at least, maybe even blackflag, but blackflag is actually related to the other AC's) as a complete own game and not part of the AC franchise. That title is being milked to hell. There are a lot of more examples.

God this twist was so damn good, best game I've played in a LONG time
Personally my favorite Cowboy game, right behind the 2 Red Dead Redemption games and right in front of Red Dead Revolver.

Iden Berzerk He's after a man for his lifetime and there is no reason he should forgive, revenge ending is true.
