Before fashion videos are back in full swing, would you consider making a video on how you manage and invest your money? Do you have ISAs, buy stocks and shares, etc.? Three properties by 30 is an impressive achievement!

Probably because this person would like to know. Isn’t that obvious? Also, considering Josie gets hundreds of comments a day and manages multiple social media platforms, it’s reasonable to think that she might have missed the comment.

Good luck with your new venture. Try not to spend too much money on it, you're trying to make profit. You can get something to look luxurious without having to buy high end everything. People staying in it won't know or care that the lights are Jim Lawrence so choose where you spend your money wisely to add the most value without spending money you don't need to.

In the first bedroom on that left hand corner build a wardrobe straight up to the ceiling and then panel around it too. Then paint all the same colour, so it is blended in and then you are not wasting that space. Hope that makes sense.

  • @theresashingler4345
    @theresashingler4345 3 ปีที่แล้ว +45

Wow, such a sweet cottage. As it's a holiday cottage do you need a wardrobe in the top bedroom? A pretty hanging rail and some drawers would keep the space more open.
Do try to bear in mind that it won't be your home, some people don't treat holiday accommodation very well, so try to keep as much as possible easy to clean and not too precious in case it's broken or 'walks' (sorry if that sounds bossy) . It's going to be so gorgeous when you're given it your touch.

Yes life should be fun...there is too much gloominess in the world...I AM 73 have lived a full happy.life and had all my big dreams come true because I WORKED hard for them...like JOSIE... people have sometimes resented it. MY dreams were different a career I LOVED that took ten yrs academic preparation...followed by 20 yrs being a professor and uni administrator. I wanted to.retire by 50 and never work again...that took sacrifice and investment. I wanted to live aboard A SAILBOAT with the love of my life and sail the CARIBBEAN which we did for ten years. I wanted to have a beautiful home and tropical gardens in tropical mountains in a low tax, low government interference in everyday life country and we do. I wanted to never have to go to a nursing home but have the means and people we trust in place to care for us at the sunset.of.our lives and we do....we are still fit and fine but the day will come when we will be glad to have the employees we have, our garden, our home designed wisely for our future needs. We have had an unconventional life that would not appeal to most people but it was and is eactly what we wanted.....no one can ask for more than to have their dreams come true and that is what I wish for everyone...city life or country life, whatever each heart dreams. A life uniquely theirs.

A lot of smaller hotels and b&bs just have a few shaker style hooks for coat hangers, instead of wardrobes - as yours will be a holiday cottage, rather than a home, you don’t need to go overboard with the storage. I’m glad I don’t have to wallpaper the top bedroom, with all the different angles!

Outside of ByTerry, KM and Intimissimi, there is a reason why *major brands don't renew contracts with Lydia* - classless, too much drama (the entire Nicki fiasco), vapid, and overall a horror to work with according to quite a few PR girls. Josie presents less brand risk and isn't a brand beggar like Lyd's ... who shamelessly grovels for free stuff 24/7. Lyd's buys *very* little of what she advertises, follows brands on social media and then begs for it - and hawks the rest when she needs a few bucks. Get a clue. LMAO

I love the cottage. Ooohhh so many ideas. 1. With the secondary bedroom, I think the wall that you’re going to put the bed on done in a board and batten, painted a pale blue with a cream on the wall. Paired with a beautiful floral blue curtain and bedding, cottage core perfection. Agree on the wood floor and either sanding the beams or wrapping them in natural wood. 2. With the master bed, you would have an easier time getting one of those mattresses in a box and opening it in the room. 3. For the master bedroom, natural wood floor and beams or wrapped in natural wood. 3. In the master bedroom, get rid of the rail and do a hip height built-in in its place for a dresser for storage. You could also do something similar to your dressing room against the sloped walls with built ins. Agree on the wall paper all over. Love the vlog as always!!

We made white rose beds in just the same way when we moved into our house. We underplanted them with white tulips and narcissi, followed by white alliums, and plant white cosmos for later summer each year. My only suggestions is to make them wider than you have marked out. The house proportions would lend itself to that, you can always do it at a later date. Both our girls have been married with them as a back drop.
Our house and garden is a bit bigger than yours, it’s now been a work in progress for 23 years - you never finish. Have a lovely time planning it all

Suggestion: in the room with the square box in the corner, create a builtin incorporating that box. You could build shelves above it, slightly recessed from the edges, add coving, and you’ve got a smart little display and storage area for guests. If you added a top to the box that stuck out over the edge you could create a little deal area with shelves as well. This way that box is camouflaged a bit and looks like a built in.

Just a tip - ornamental pear trees are absolutely beautiful but do not stand up well to heavy winds. My parents property had a long line of them alongside the road and unfortunately they all had to be taken down (many many years after planting) due to splitting or branches breaking during storms. Granted, they were planted in 1978 and were taken up in the 2010s so that’s a pretty great return on investment.

I think there were negative comments because we were hungry and jealous of the delicious dinner you and Charlie shared. I was wondering where my invite was and I remembered Covid of course, otherwise my place setting would have been set. A long flight from Los Angeles but totally worth it for Charlie’s cooking. Yes, I would have done the washing up. The French fries looked and smelled delicious from across the pond.

The cottage reno will be such fun to watch! Congratulations! A great and creative way to expand your investment/income options. The pink flowers at the cottage are hyacinth - bulbs that typically bloom in spring - and are often forced for early blooming in pots and vases. They have a very strong smell and can irritate anyone with seasonal allergies when displayed inside. The tiny purple flowers are muscari - not weeds - but a bulb that can be planted - also known as grape hyacinth. If planted they will self propagate in a way similar to snow drops. Our spring flowers: crocus, muscari, tulips, daffodils, narcissus, and more are blooming here in middle America.

    1. In agreement with many others, I would do the minimum necessary to get the holiday cottage up and running, at least for the first year. Then you can gauge what else to do, based on comments and feedback.
    2. I'm sure there will be plenty of people in the village happy to take excess seedlings off your hands

And finally - you didn't tell us about Lala!

Really cute! I'd be wary of upgrading and updating too much in a vacation home. People sometimes break things, kids destroy or spill on something, etc. and don't really need a super luxe vacation spot....most people just want a simple, clean, and cozy spot to stay in. You'll make a better profit that way too and save yourself some money!

Beautiful cottage purchase! Definitely country cottage style: beams, wood panels, sage greens, brass everything, the weird ledge is a bedside table with a floral arrangement, wall mounted side lights to save space. Beef up the tiny slanted shelves and continue them around the chimney instead of a blocking armoire, keeps the room airy. Mini boot nook is perfect because the door will block the hall. Floral Roman shades at the little windows.

This level of wealth is impossible to achieve for the vast majority of people without inheritance/luck. I’d wish you luck, if you don’t have the inheritance, but this kind of wealth is not necessarily admirable. If I think about it for more than a moment, it makes me ill. Considering how our resources are so unjustly distributed is utterly depressing...

If I were considering renting a cottage in the Cotswolds I would want it to look like a Beatrix Potter home---all old world, large gardens, wall papered rooms(yes Charlie) , crackling fires, quaint English teacups & porcelain dishes.....no modern except for the bathroom with a claw footed tub! I would not want to do much cooking so a tiny old fashioned Aga for looks and a microwave hidden away. Big flowery printed down filled quilts & goose feather pillows with lush wool throws for reading in a big overstuffed velvet chair. Horse prints or bucolic scenes framed in old gold frames on the walls alongside a small filled bookcase with old poetry & art books. Josie you could take your overflow of seed starts to throw in beds outside your new cottage. If you start putting your remodel in your intro to your video maybe it will attract a new type of subscriber and you could finally get to 500,000 . In lieu of that, how about starting a new vlog called Cotswoldmumbler? Love your video today & every time you post.

That’s true that in North America (I’m in Canada) we call it the third floor, which now that I think of it makes no sense. In an office building with an elevator we call the ground floor the lobby and the next floor up is the first floor. Not sure why it’s different in houses!

Maybe those organic latex mattresses constructed of layers that can easily be rolled up could be an option for getting a king size up there? Apparently those latex mattresses are amazing.

I LOVE the cottage idea! Would love to stay there so so much! So exciting!!
The little box area that Charles suggested some flowers to be placed on, might be able to be hidden as a table or desk perhaps? A wood table top might be able to be placed over the square and overlap it a little, with a couple of chairs pulled up? It would be so nice to have some of the touches of your own beautiful home added to the cottage. I love the firewood storage idea and the front entrance cupboard reformation idea. I love all the beautiful nooks and crannies.

How exciting, looking forward to seeing your vision & progress. Maybe in the 2nd bed room you could build a cupboard over over the stair box for guests to keep clothes in, either shelves or hanging & your could add beading to match the wall it will all blend in and you would'nt notice the protruding stair box, also mount a large mirror to one side
of it to make the room appear bigger???

The blue flowers are grape hyacinths, small version of the pink ones. Very much not a weed. Sown by small bulbs and self seeding. Great video. Love the cottage. Cozy rental. Your pronunciation of muscari is spot on.

Congratulations! Loved the cottage. Idea for the upper bedroom - if the room is long enough, you can have a wardrobe behind the bed. Just build a wall behind the bed headboard with around 50 cm or less from the actual wall, and put rales and shelves inside, the access will be from either sides of the bed. And when you stand in front of the bed you will not see that there’s a wardrobe, it will be just a wall behind the bed.

Josie, I would reconsider wallpaper on a rental for sure because if someone damages it by marking it you will have to replace it. I would make it as light and airy as possible because of the smaller spaces. I'd skip paneling because it's dark and can be dented. My friends own a chalet rental and people can do some bizarre things to a place. I'd be sure not to buy the highest-end items in the kitchen or bathroom.

I watch them an enjoy their content but you surely can’t think that being an influencer is the most difficult job. I’m not saying they don’t work for what they have but it is not the most taxing job and they earn a lot of money from it. I think healthcare workers etc have a much harder job and get paid significantly less. I think that’s what Julie was saying.

Josie, what you might want to try out for any new arrangements you make for the large planter is adding an oasis block into the bottom of the planter. That way, you can stick your stems right into it a they are held up perfectly. By the way, the structure you created for the stems in the pot is called a frog and you can find lots of them in antique shops. 🥰

Love the original everything. Pull the carpet up, clean the floors and let them be original. Love your ideas about the kitchen and bathroom. All the original things I would use somewhere. JMO...visiting the Cotswalds for a vacation I would want to see an authentic cottage with quaint decor. I really wouldn't think luxury, I would want the experience of the time it was built. The top floor would be good with a wardrobe and a tall mirror on the wall instead of a vanity that would take up space. That's something we admire about the UK. Keeping your old beautiful architecture that you can't even try to create these days. Whatever you do will be lovely. From the 🇺🇸

Congrats on your holiday cottage. I am wanting to do the same thing where I live. I have stayed in holiday cottages when I vacation in England. It is the only way to travel. You are going to have fun fixing it up and decorating it. I think making it cottage cozy will really add to the charm and wow factor. Bare wood floors with pretty rugs and wall paper (which is very in right now) would look fantastic.

Congratulations on the new cottage! It looks so promissing! Since you moved to the Cotswolds I am dreaming of traveling there some time in the future, when the situation allows it. I am from Germany and have been to a few different towns/cities in England (including London, of course). It never crossed my mind to visit the country side, because we have such beautiful nature in Germany, so no need to travel, I thought. But your videos reminded me, that it is really not the same - especially the whimsical little villages' architecture! Who knows, maybe I will even have the honour of staying at your cottage someday!
