  • We've heard from many travelers that Uruguay is one of the most expensive countries they've visited in Latin America. So we're going to check out the prices of goods and services, including food, rent, and transportation, in Uruguay's capital, Montevideo. And then we'll also compare them to the costs in the smaller touristy town of Colonia del Sacramento, about 2 and a half hours away.

Hi Emilie. I am thinking of emigrating to Montevideo with my mom as an option.

Those prices are insane. And you have to question why, a place would give you a discount when paying by credit card, when it COSTS them money to accept that instead of cash. This is a country best avoided from what I can see.

It's worth visiting, but yeah the prices are outrageous. Just as much as in the states, though properties are cheaper comparatively speaking. The politicians should do something about it (ha! what goverment does this, but one can only wish right?!) because they will lose a lot of people to Argentina or other countries with lower cost of living.

@@leplane_ yes but urugayans have a much better quality of life, purchasing power than argentinians and stable economy. Why should they lower their prices for gringos who are only staying a few days there when they already have a diversified economy and don't need your tourist money. You think the world revolves around americans ? 😆
You are seriously asking their politicians to do the same as argentinia when the country is becoming a shithole and everybody is fleeing ? how dumb.
