I'm sorry watercolors frustrated you a while back, but giving them another go just proves how strong of a creative you are! Maybe I should do the same with oil and acrylic. 😊
@@Moira.D.B hope you don't mind my butting into your comment but you seem to know your oil paints stuff so I thought I would ask, please feel free to ignore me if you want lol! I have always been curious about oil paints but because I am someone who (a bit like Rin) gets easily frustrated and sometimes gives up it is a very expensive hobby to just "try it and see". On top of that I am very lazy and almost always forget to clean my brushes etc afterwards (thank the gods for creating gouache for lazy artists lol!) so the idea of all the oils and cleanup really put me off. However, I have recently discovered that they make water mixable oil paints but I know absolutely nothing about them. Are they the same as oil paints (take a long time to dry, can do all the awesome blendy stuff with them etc) but just using water to mix/clean instead of linseed oil (or whichever oil you use for oil paints)? Does this make them safer because there are less chemicals and fumes? Or are they the same where you need a heavily ventilated room to work in? Sorry to bombard you with questions but I'm really curious and have no idea who else to ask! 😂 Thanks in advance for any info/advice you are able to give 😊💐
Am new to oil painting but there are a bunch of awesome channels out there with tips for oil painting. I use the cheap stuff for now to get a feel for them and its fun.
@@Littlewings1211 I have not used water based oils, but usually I use a type of soap for oil paint instead of turpentine. It is a type of painting that is best to have its own brushes and pallet only for oils. I personally prefer acrylic in terms of cleanup. If you aren’t sure about oils yet or can’t afford it I would suggest a slow drying medium for acrylic paint. You blend it in the paint and it dries slower and easier to blend. But also remember, it’s not the expensive or fanciest paints/mediums that makes the art good. Personally enjoy painting with cheap acrylics as well 😊
Art supplies are meant to be used especially by those who appreciate them. Use the wonderful paper and relish in how well it spreads the water. It's so weird to hear you say that you don't like watercolours wince you're the reason I even have it a try. Years ago you did a video where you painted a little girl with a red bow with water colours and that was the first time I understood watercolours, so I gave it a try. And everytime I was lost as to what to do, I just watched that video. It helped me a lot 😊
I have absolutely no art skills whatsoever but I love your videos because they are so helpful with my depression. They’re so calming and grounding. Your animated voice and great sense of humor. The beautiful visual aesthetic. Your amazing talented skills as an artist. I could go on and on. In short, thank you and keep up the great content.
You’re doing so well with watercolours! I was a bit ‘eeek’ by how much paint you put into the palette…. That liquid watercolour goes soooooo far! I usually use one or 2 drops at a time. But they some really stunning colours you got. Your little iddybiddyteenyadorabubble octopudding is the most deliciously cute blob *ever* 🐙
This turned out so cute. I love that the little octopus has a blub face! Honestly, I think the way you use watercolor is great for your style! There’s really no one way to use them, so this is definitely a successful watercolor piece :D
Honestly, from my experience, good paper makes way more difference than the paint quality. You can have the best paint in the world, but if you’re trying to paint on paper that is rejecting the paint, absorbing unevenly, etc, there’s going to be a hard limit on how good and fun your painting will be.
Oooo, those are REALLY nice watercolor supplies!! If I didn't already have WAY too many, I would be so tempted to sign up for this box. Hang in there and keep trying with watercolors! They are the type of thing that you have to get to know, like a good friend. And we all know, "Friends come and go, like the waves of the ocean, but the true ones stay like an octopus on your face."
To me watercolour is the ultimate art supply and I never understand why so many artists seems to dislike it. It's calming, satisfying and makes art look great. What's not to love?
I think with watercolors, there's a little less control. Which works super well for my style, since it feels like the medium does some of the work for me! 😁 But for some people it's stressful, because they might not get a super exact result. That's just what I've experienced. 😊
They are transparent and thus require a lot of planning and layering to get rich darks, plus they don't like to be man-handled. I like opaque art supplies and to be more heavy-handed with my paints so watercolours don't suit me. I think they are a wonderful medium, but I personally don't enjoy working with them. Oils on the other hand. I love oils. Lol. Depends on one's personality as an artist.

You’ve probably heard this but, you can drip clean water down on your watercolor and it makes neat drip marks and pushes color around. I think you needed more water with the galaxy. Laid it down and then pat it down with a paper towel to get some of that color to show through the black. 👍🏻
