  • In this video I review my new orascoptic loupes, and if I think they could be the best loupes out there, these are loupes designed for surgeons and dentists to get a magnified field of view for operating and performing procedures and surgeries on patients. Good, high quality loupes for doctors and surgeons are very important to helping us be good at our jobs. Here I review my new loupes from orascoptic.

    Thank your for your video. I’m considering orascomptic wireless 3,5-5,5x loupes.

    Do you think you could adjust those loupes so that it is in focus at close range, say 6-7 inches? I'm looking for loupes to help improve my fly thing - I dress a lot of Salmon and Trout fishing flies...

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you probably could get the focal point shortened but not sure I would spend this much money if you’re not using them for surgery or medical uses.

    Welp.. you're over the 60 likes for those who are interested in the comparison video, lol. Good for you! So, chiming in with the others... I'd be interested in knowing more about the pros and cons to the three major brands (I think that's what you'd said) you've tried out. I'm going into dental hygienistry and will need some higher powered loupes that won't fall apart after a year's worth of use.

    Hi Dr. Keenan. I am currently in my second gap year and in a med school application cycle. I am fortunate enough to stumble on some cardiology research experience and get some abstracts accepted and published to various cardiology organizations. However, I am really interested in ophthalmology. So I was wondering, does research experience outside of ophthalmology help when it comes to applying to ophtho residency?

      also on a gap year & wanting to go into ophtho! :) In your case, I have heard that any research > no research, but to maximize your chances & have the best possible match result its best to have some experience in ophtho (or any other field that you want to go into)

    Thank you for the video. It was very informative. I do have some questions. Are those loupes astronomical or galilean? What is the cost? Can you have them customize for your eye? For example if you are -4 sphere and have them make glasses based on your prescription?

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. I do not know if they are astronomical or Galilean, I just know that they magnify things and make it easier for me to see them. The cost varies based on what frame you get and what type of loupe. These frames are the cheaper ones. If you get the light with it I think it came to around $1000. And I’m fairly certain they can add your prescription into the frame. I hope that helps.

    I know you said you don’t like bulky, but have you tried the X1 platform by Orascoptic? They go up to 5.5x and have a built in light.

    • @doctoreyeballmd7493
      @doctoreyeballmd7493  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t tried those yet. 5.5 is probably too magnified for what I do in oculoplastics, but certainly useful in dentistry in endodontics, I imagine.

    • @mzendig
      @mzendig ปีที่แล้ว

      @@doctoreyeballmd7493 I’m a GP and I use them for everything, 3rds, implants, alveoplasty, fillings, crowns, etc. they do come in whatever magnification you want though. I just hate having a cord to a battery pack. These have the batteries in the loupe arms. Just fyi.
      But a number of loupe companies are making “expanded field” loupes… higher magnification while maintaining similar field of view from a lower magnification.
