Love your stuff, it's an instant-watch when it comes up in my subscriptions. As somebody who's just starting out, I'm pretty obsessed with low-budget approaches. Do you think you could at some point do a video that breaks down what a variety of cinematographers did at the beginning of their careers in order to establish style while having low-budget gear?
That's a nice idea. My next video is going to look at 3 films at 3 different budget levels (from no budget to high budget) to see what different approaches can be taken with varying resources.
I appreciate how you take a look at people like this, who really hold up the work of many directors, and who get berated still for having worked with Paul Fieg.
Thanks! Definitely, maybe that'll be the next film I break down. I think there's a bit of a stigma sometimes about Wes Anderson's films being cliche, but I always remind myself that without his original/innovative style there would be no cliche to begin with. I think inventive filmmakers that take visual risks should be applauded, otherwise the medium stagnates.
@@InDepthCine Grand Budapest Hotel is my least favourite film made by Wes Anderson, comparing to his previous work. It felt like he enhanced his signature style even more. It became very expressive, so that I could not really invest in the actual story. Whereas The Darjeeling Limited, Moonrise Kingdom, The Royal Tenenbaums are well balanced movies, where wonderful stories are accompanied by the signature style.

Your videos show a great depth of knowledge and research! Cinematography is one of my favourite elements of a good film, but I don't have much technical knowledge on the subject (or the names of the cinematographers - they're not as celebrated as the directors) so I find this really insightful. I love the look of Wes Anderson's films but I had no idea Yeoman had also done comedies such as Bridesmaids! I'd love to perhaps see a video on the work of Bruno Delbonnel, I really like his style.
Sadly, I think Bridesmaids is one of the worst movies visually in recent years. Tony from Every Frame of Painting hit the nail pretty hard of his critique on the style in it. It just feels like boring static camera shots with lightly edited improv lines to me. Many movies today are like that to me, especialyl comedies. If you'd like to see what I mean, the video is Every Frame a Painting's video on Edgar Wright. But when working on more eccentric stuff like Anderson's movies, his work really shines!

Even though I like how French Cinema (or at least some French movies) shoots really up close, like in your face close, I really dislike the theatrical style in this video, I'd say this is my least favorite DOP so far. Strange.
