The anime adaptation actually massively understates how batshit insane Cid is. In the source material it's made very clear that the guy is just in a state of absolutely nonstop delusional psychosis.
This right here like the man beats his head against the wall, to give himself a concussion in case he gets psychic powers like that's a whole new level of like. Buddy you good? Forget your meds today? Cid buddy you got to remember your meds.
In the very few first episodes he bashed his head into a rock and then ran into the streets and died. That's litterally how he got reincarnated into the other world.
I like the fact that every character is the main character with different story all evolving around Cid. If we watched from their perspective each of them would be its own anime.
and more funnier - is that Cid actively tries to make a main characters. He tried his best to make Sherry (pink hair scientist girl with artifact) to be a main character and save everyone. And he was helping her to do so in tournament arc, as well as in volume 4. Oblivious that she is in Shadow Garden. As well as Rose oblivious that Cid is the Shadow. Damn this shit is so funny, i just cant x)
The main thing you have to remember is that Cid's entire purpose in the show is just being a Macguffin to move the story along, and that the real main characters are everyone else who has more than a couple scenes in whatever arc you're currently watching. Basically it's like Sailor Moon, but from the perspective of Tuxedo Mask, with Cid filling that sort of role. Also most of the people who dislike this show don't understand concepts like parody or satire.
The last fight was insane. One of the most one sided fights I’ve seen. Cid was basically toying with Iris and Beatrix. I really hope it gets a season 2.
The Perv Asshat isn't actually his name, it's "Doem Ketsuhat" which does roughly translate to what was given but actually, while the Asshat is correct, the Perv part is up to interpretation. "Doem" actually meant masochistic which can be said a perv, but I think Masochistic Asshat sounds funny though less practical for names lmao
Correction his name is merely a wordplay. It's never meant to be translated. His name is Doem Ketsuhat not Perv or Masochistic Asshat. You are meant to make the connection yourself and laugh at it, but not treat it as if the characters are literally calling them that. The translation is done so that the joke can be understood by us.
This anime is what I called Isekai NG+, because this anime is for people who had watched too many Isekai stories where the MCs are usually overpowered goody-two-shoes or edge lords. Eminence in Shadow is when you’re finally done with those trope MCs and decided to go banana on your next playthrough just to have some fun for once and not to take things seriously. Kinda like Dark Souls. You wear good looking armors and used powerful weapons, playing the game as intended. In the next playthrough, you’re wearing only a loin cloth with a giant club as your weapon. That is what Eminence of Shadow is as an Isekai show.
Honestly I love the fact that the seven shadows think Cid knows everything, so they never actually bother updating him. Cid on the other hand doesn't actually believe his story was true, so like 90% of the time he just improving all of it.
Welcome to the party! It’s only been 20 weeks already, but better late than never. Seriously the LN and Manga are awesome and reading ahead has definitely helped with the wait for an official announcement for season 2.
There is a solid story-arc, but its presented in a manner where the arc falls into place as more information is provided. Apart from the Isekai aspect, the only real mac-guffin is the ability of Cid to guess the reality of the current world in an attempt to create his fantasy. As for the character-arc, Cid is all over the place and he seems to wander in a random manner. Alpha on the other hand has a solid character-arc and keeps Cid moving in the generally correct direction.
Based Rosa enjoyer. The reason why the story wont get boring is because characters like Alexia and Rosa and even the sister late ron have some seriosu plot lines going with crazier and crazier things happening but also with genuinr heartfelt moments, while everyrhing is either soo op or broken with the usual trope twisted to the extreme its really fun. I mean in this anime along you had a facicility that used a hero to harvest blood cells from a "demon lord" arm with super advanced tech. The also really nice stuff is leaning more and growing attached to the shado garden girl each of them with their own unique personalities.
This anime really makes me think. Recently a lot of people have been throwing the word NPC around using it to describe people who just go with the flow of life and don't have any impact on society. Then there we have these people who carry themselves in high regard such as Iris and think that the world revolves around them (they see themselves not as an NPC but as someone worth something.) but when they learn about the cultist and Shadow garden who are the one's actually impacting society in the background they start to break down as they realize they themselves might be NPCs. It hits especially for Iris who see's herself as one of the strongest when she gets absolutely embarrassed by Shadow and realizes how weak and irrelevant she actually is. Shadow doesn't even show any interest in her as he would rather pay attention to Beatrice, with him basically sorta training her during the fight.
At around 2:20 you mentioned how each new episode just seems to fix any plot holes of the last episode. Im pretty sure during the first few arcs the chapters were released as they were written, so the author would get comments on plot holes and just fix them in the next few chapters or go back and edit the chapter.

There's already a buncha these isekai animes where the MC doesn't want to be an MC but wants to be the side character instead. Eminence in Shadow just has does it slightly better. The main gag behind this is Cid is a chuuni who actually can back up his fantasies.
You can say that Cid actually tries! One thing that annoys me with "slow life" fantasy, is that ALWAYS, the MC doesn't know how to not be a Shonnen MC. It's always "I don't wanna attract attention", next they drop their strongest magic and nuke a mountain. Always simping for any girl and picking fights for them. Doing everything for everyone and them going "why does everyone rely on me?" Or, when everyone is running from a monster, they defeat it with a slap and goes "anyone could've done that", like they didn't they didn't see people running for not being able to do that.
Having read the LN, I realised this thing does have a plot. But from Cid's POV, the plot doesn't matter at all. Also, I am unable to describe how insane this man Cid is. The only thing that can match his state of mind is his strength, which is equally insane.
people really need to stop underestimating this show. at a surface level this show is exactly what what this guy says it is but its actually much better than people give it credit for. From sound design to the amount of effort put into the side characters stories, there is so much stuff that people don't really appreciate because they are too busy looking at this show as dumb fun.
ITs kinda funny. This anime exposes Tourists so easily. Those without literary skills completely ignore post apocalyptic setting for a simple medieval setting. The clues sprinkled in the dialogue hinting at the Science fiction elements as early as EP2, The grimdark story just below the surface all hidden under the Cringe Lord Cid Hell even the Cult shown skulking around and how Cid has indeed encountered a ton of them while being the Fancy Hoodlum Slayer. This story was crafted Backwards and likely does have a bible. Cid is the Obfuscation layer for boring REAL NPCs that will ignore lore and take everything at face value unable to keep up with the intrinsically crafted plot right below the surface.
The backstory stuff is all connected and makes sense. The thing is, Shadow is so strong that him winning is a forgone conclusion. The fun part is what Cid winning means for everyone else.

Yeah I ain't forgetting Eminence in the Shadow season 2 is already in production and the final episode of season 1 just came out a week or two ago also their is a lot of character development for the majority of the characters but the thing that causes that development is Cid especially when it comes to Manga Cid who does some serious shit that causes major development for characters not typically the main cast tho like Clair Alexia it doesn't effect them but effects a certain other group which was amazing seeing
I've been reading the LN since pretty much when it was released as a WN. It's one of my absolute favorite series and I've re-read it many times, read the manga and watched the anime a few times. Dunno, I just love it a lot. The comedy hits home a lot of the time and him being clueless just makes everything funny along with how everything just happens to fall into the right place where his guesses and whatever he does ends up being the correct choice. It's just hilarious in every way. I love it.
Don't listen to them, "it gets boring after X arc" is literally mentioned by anyone towards any series. It's just people who never really enjoyed the story for real, coming to the realization that the story is not for them.
Seeing this, I kinda want to read the novel again for probably the 10th time. It's weird how I can keep coming back and re-reading it without being bored as soon as I've waited a few months or half a year.
I do not subscribe to TH-cam channels practically ever unless I’ve ended up watching a few videos and liked them, then happened to press subscribe. This video made me subscribe by 1:27. Very well made and very high quality 👌
People have been saying it gets boring after a certain arc? I just think each arc gets better and better with one arc as an exception because it stands above the rest for me. The second arc we get the next season is my favourite out of the series and just so you know all the arcs are basicly just setting up for the next arcs and other stuff for other future arcs. Things that does not seem to make any sense right now will be explained in the future. Also each arc only focuses on some charcters for developement which is why it might seem like they have no personality. They will get more fleshed out with the story being developed
In effect you can't denied that the "good" of this anime, especially compare to the rest of the Isekai genre that nowadays have become all too popular on viewer(guess too many people wish to leave this world for another.....understandably), is the fact that the character is completely the opposite of what you aspect in the genre. Cid is neither be vary of his surronding as Ais, questions his mortality as Tanya or simply deciding to do good deed as Arc, he is simply willing to play bad and to do anything that he want to do.... On the other end, however, Cid character and behaviour in several cases, both in the anime and the manga, border the sociopathic(not to make spoiler, but in one episode of the manga Cid manage briefly to return to Earth, only to find that Earth has been ravaged by a magical disaster, but Cid doesn't care a bit and simply find the situation quite cool, despite the fact that he is literally walking in a destroyed landscape of his city) as such it is difficult to relate with the character, which clear suffer of a very serious case of "Hero complex"(as the disturb in which a person in order to achieve fame or recognition, create or allow a situation of potential danger to happen, as was the case of Akane's kidnapping in Episode 1, where Cid didn't even tried to rescue the girl when the kidnapping was taking place, but later when he was able to make his grand entrance as the "Stylish Bandit Slayer"), but instead to be focus his effort on "his" persona, Cid actions are meant for his alter ego of "Shadow", that's why in my opinion Cid is so willing to go to extreme case(even allowing himself to be tortured in the anime) to protect his background of Cid as a "NPC" character, which to him is needed to highlight his other persona as Shadow. To be fair, I am not completely convinced that Cid as not realized that the Cult of Diablos actually do exist, it is simpy that to him, there is no difference is he Cult is real or not, what matter is the fact that Shaodw and Shadow Garden do get fame and recognition by fighting it or any other adversary, thus as personal opinion, i do admit that if it was for me, I would have instead tried to play the game of the "Cain Complex"(as the character of Cain in Warhammer 40k), here play out at example with Cid realizing (perhaps after the duel with the Viscount who kidnapped his sister) that the Cult do exist and realizing that he has indeed now played in the hand of a very serious and potential dangerous power struggle, if not for him at least for the other girl with him, he is emotionally torn apart if telling the girls the truth or continue with the charade since he is after all enjoying the respect and admiration he receive from the other girls, I would have let it play that Cid decide to to try to find a middle-way to getting himself out of the intrige without telling the girl the truth(at example, the decision of the girls to move out in the world in order to fight better the Cult influence, I would have make an idea of Cid, who instead decided to make a plausable excuse to de-facto disband the group and allow the girls to put things in order with their own lives without his meddling.....attempt that of course would have backfired)......which yes, I know that would have make Cid a lot more like the character of Tanya in Youjo Senki, but at least for me, it would have allow to create a more "human" version of Cid, which could have been more relatable, but after all as I had already said before, the good of the anime is that Cid is like no other Isekai character..........frakked psychotic
Isekai means "another world" Summoned to another world Reincarnated in another world Or just launched into space and landing on another world. Yes Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar is considered an isekai.
honestly loved this shit somehow, the isekai genre "typicality" was really getting to me that i put this as my all time favorite for like a year, its a really good twist for me. sometimes you dont notice you're tired
I think you misudnerstand Cid. He doesn't want to be a background character. He wants to larp as a background that has a secrety identity of being a mysterious batman like OP figure. He also wanted to larp as a dark horse in a tournament arc as well. Basically, he wants to larp multiple character roles.
"he seems to care what the other characters think" and you see, that's where you are wrong. He unironically doesn't understand half the shit most of the characters are going through, and the part that he does understand is through the eyes of the eminence persona. When he gives the burger to the princess, hes only really seeing that she is "emotional" but he has no sense of "depth-perception" if you will. He just thinks shes having trouble with an unknown boyfriend character, and is monologue'ing to himself while she herself is going through intense emotional turmoil, all the while misunderstanding cid as being a caring and compassionate (yet with a kudere type personality) love interest. When you over analyze it, the shit actually gets funnier.
Yeh I was watching the show wondering where the girls were coming from, why there were elves and dog girls in shadow garden even though up to this point only human characters existed outside Then I understood the show.
Literally cid is like the god and know every moves that is he is the one makes to everyone to move, just playing with his kids, like our real god does.

Song:Resurrection (celeste)
Yeah I ain't forgetting Eminence in the Shadow season 2 is already in production and the final episode of season 1 just came out a week or two ago also their is a lot of character development for the majority of the characters but the thing that causes that development is Cid especially when it comes to Manga Cid who does some serious shit that causes major development for characters not typically the main cast tho like Clair Alexia it doesn't effect them but effects a certain other group which was amazing seeing
Forever. We'll be together.
For me it was 10/10 and my 7th favourite anime
Your last words make me hit that subscribe button 😅😅😅
You explained it perfectly. Thank you. You earned a sub.
It's just people who never really enjoyed the story for real, coming to the realization that the story is not for them.
omg I lost it at Imatry Nottolose
nice explanation
that one needed some deconstruction
Seeing this, I kinda want to read the novel again for probably the 10th time. It's weird how I can keep coming back and re-reading it without being bored as soon as I've waited a few months or half a year.
I do not subscribe to TH-cam channels practically ever unless I’ve ended up watching a few videos and liked them, then happened to press subscribe.
This video made me subscribe by 1:27. Very well made and very high quality 👌
that intro with the no b*ches joke was funny
People have been saying it gets boring after a certain arc? I just think each arc gets better and better with one arc as an exception because it stands above the rest for me. The second arc we get the next season is my favourite out of the series and just so you know all the arcs are basicly just setting up for the next arcs and other stuff for other future arcs. Things that does not seem to make any sense right now will be explained in the future. Also each arc only focuses on some charcters for developement which is why it might seem like they have no personality. They will get more fleshed out with the story being developed

Oh god I got the subscribe button now he’s holding my family hostage
To be fair, I am not completely convinced that Cid as not realized that the Cult of Diablos actually do exist, it is simpy that to him, there is no difference is he Cult is real or not, what matter is the fact that Shaodw and Shadow Garden do get fame and recognition by fighting it or any other adversary, thus as personal opinion, i do admit that if it was for me, I would have instead tried to play the game of the "Cain Complex"(as the character of Cain in Warhammer 40k), here play out at example with Cid realizing (perhaps after the duel with the Viscount who kidnapped his sister) that the Cult do exist and realizing that he has indeed now played in the hand of a very serious and potential dangerous power struggle, if not for him at least for the other girl with him, he is emotionally torn apart if telling the girls the truth or continue with the charade since he is after all enjoying the respect and admiration he receive from the other girls, I would have let it play that Cid decide to to try to find a middle-way to getting himself out of the intrige without telling the girl the truth(at example, the decision of the girls to move out in the world in order to fight better the Cult influence, I would have make an idea of Cid, who instead decided to make a plausable excuse to de-facto disband the group and allow the girls to put things in order with their own lives without his meddling.....attempt that of course would have backfired)......which yes, I know that would have make Cid a lot more like the character of Tanya in Youjo Senki, but at least for me, it would have allow to create a more "human" version of Cid, which could have been more relatable, but after all as I had already said before, the good of the anime is that Cid is like no other Isekai character..........frakked psychotic
best youtube channel ihave ever seen
I've read all the manga that's been translated, which as I understand it is like 1.5 arcs behind the LN. It has remained entertaining to me.
Together forever
I hit the subscribe button to remember you just before you mentioned it. I win. Gg ez. Also am the 1600th like.
No no the story does not get boring
I've read the manga and the bullshit thing that happen still make my mouth open to this day
nice, me too
3:50 I mean well, they do actually explain that
4:21 honestly I feel like she had more to do to her character especially the backstory and her relationship with Cid
Well her story definitely isn't over yet. Seems like it's just getting started.
Do you think cid will reveal himself as shadow.cuz I read the manga and I haven't seen that outcome yet
my guess is as good as yours. maybe near the end they'll reveal it? idk
Whatever you mentioned here is just amplified in season 2!
Quick question but what’s the song being played at 6 mins
The best description of this show you can give is if Ovelord & One Punch Man had a baby
true though
"When you start asking questions, its not fun anymore" 100% insane person here.
what is the song on 5:40 called
Isekai means "another world"
Summoned to another world
Reincarnated in another world
Or just launched into space and landing on another world.
Yes Tenchi Muyo War on Geminar is considered an isekai.
3:03 not related but may i know the bgm used here?
undertale - sans
2:56
When that sans theme played i thought my ringtone rang
"Eye ahm atomihc"
- Cid Kagenou
dawg, what's the music from 5:40 - 6:47?
pokemon x & y - unwavering heart
@@karu mashallah brother ty very much i shall sub to u now!
7.27 how everything turns out in the end,. NOPE WE'RE GETTING A SEASON 2
Let us be together for ever then
honestly loved this shit somehow, the isekai genre "typicality" was really getting to me that i put this as my all time favorite for like a year, its a really good twist for me. sometimes you dont notice you're tired
Cid is so powerful he unconsciously manipulates reality
It’s the definition of peak anime
Love the Eminence in shadow.
When you look back forget chapter 138 for aot ....and by extension 139 ok?
Can’t wait for season 2. The red moon is rising
Yeh I was watching the show wondering where the girls were coming from, why there were elves and dog girls in shadow garden even though up to this point only human characters existed outside
Then I understood the show.
Literally cid is like the god and know every moves that is he is the one makes to everyone to move, just playing with his kids, like our real god does.
how does this guy only have 6k subs
"none of this shit will matter after 5 episode" oh boy. you are in for a ride.
"It should be me" my hum our isbrOke
If I had to describe The Eminence in Shadow, I'd have to go with "So 'So bad that it's good', that it's good".
The thumbnail bro
Thank you I’m going watch the show now
