Freelanders are just as capable its just ground clearence you have to watch, Mine didnt skip a beat in the snow we just had i was powering through 4ft snow drifts and on road travelling 50mph on snow perfectly comfortable. I run Kingpin 50/50 AT's good all rounders. Whats more amazing is the freelander in the video is using standard road tyres through all that! Which goes to show how capable it is right out of the tin.
@gerv55 It's a tow strap attached to the front towing eye, and pulled back and tied to the roof bars. Much easier to use if you get stuck in water, and don't want to paddle and grovel in water to connect the tow strap

+smigel 458. I have been given a 2000 Freelander Diesel with the 2WD conversion, I have also bought a 2001 Diesel Freelander with a new IRD and viscous diff for parts. Do you really think that I'm going to mud bashing in my nice clean Freelander?...............Too bloody right I am..
this is the best freelander off road video i have seen, this video showly proves that freelanders are a capable off roader. i own one myself and the amount of piss takes i get from people saying that freelanders cant go off road.
Oh, and let me add - great to see all the other new Landrovers out there - the Disco 3s and all. Brilliant top see these used for that they were MADE for.
@gerv55 Mines a FL1, I've had it from new, and have done over 79,000 miles. I think it is great, and it has had quite a battering over the years as you can from my videos, but it is still just like new. It is a bit noisier than an ordinary saloon, but mine is the 3 door which is noisier than the 5 due to the roof. It isn't uncomfortably noisy. I have no complaints about steering weight.
On two occasions, I've been to Eastnor Castle with Landrover. The second time, I got to drive an Evoque. I was amazed how good it was on similar terrain to that in this video. I really didn't want to like it but it's very impressive.

im picking up my 2nd freelander td4 saturday. i was looking into getting a defender 90 but for my spending budget of 7000 the only defender i could afford was an old early 90s with 155 thousand miles on the clock, no air con or heated wind screen. reliability would have been an issue and maintenance so thought id just go for another freelander, they are reasonably good off road just not to the extreme lol my old freelander i had was a van one and it was a bomb to insure
- 90s can be complicated to get insurance for as alot of old defenders are converted vans but still classed a van and can only insure them under van insurance. the freelander is alot more sensible and comfortable option if you want a 4x4 for alot of everyday road use. defenders are just too expensive for what you are buying, their only good points are excellent off road and towing capablities, the freelander beats the defender in everything else
gaylander???looks pretty damn capable for a poof lol have a freelander myself and it really does shock folk just how good it is. just a pity the options are not as good as they are for defenders and discos. would use one in an rtv if i could find decent recovery points for them. be good to show up the defenders lol

@disturbed4x4 What tires did you use? It is really wet and muddy and for my experience with freelander made all the difference!
