What I love more than the kitschy appeal and design aesthetics Route 66 celebrates is the grit it represents by those who made it what it is from its heyday- grit by those doing whatever it takes to make it in a bold new life. It's nice to see Allie acquiring and sharing with you such passions herself on this trip.

I love 💕 the iconic n eclectic Flintstones village n the fact that someone was cool enuf to save n restore it!!! It is part of my childhood, as I grew up with the original broadcasts of the Flintstones in prime time 8 pm slot, as well as the cartoons on Saturday morning, the offshoot products of colour forms, sticker fun books, colouring books, games, villages n figurines n dolls n costumes n paper dolls or cut outs as we also called them if the classic Flintstones series!!! i went to that flinstone town when i was really little and i didnt realize the beds were that hard and sat on them by jumping up on it and it like killed my back...not fun.. but then i went down a dinosaur slide and felt better. Thanks for bringing back a funny memory! haha

My wife and I took the train from LA to Williams, and then the Grand Canyon train to the canyon for our anniversary last year. The GCRR was fun, if a bit cheesy - of course, there is a train robbery - but the Amtrak ride out there and back was... uncomfortable. We got the little two-person sleeper cabin, that folds out into two-level bunk beds. Sitting was OK, but trying to sleep while getting tossed around on the train was tough. Especially on the way back, where, apparently to make up for lost time, the engineers opened it up and we hurtled across the Nevada desert in the middle of the night at around 100 MPH. The upper bunk has a kind of strap that makes a fabric "fence" to keep you from being thrown out of it. This is necessary; use it. :-)

Jason, the "not a trash can" is not a trash can. It is a garbage can from the days before garbage disposals were widespread. People separated garbage and trash. The lid fits tightly so that flies cannot get to the garbage and lay eggs. The sight of a can full of thousands of maggots is not pretty. BTW, you should take Ali to the Smokey Bear museum and gravesite in Capitan New Mexico.
When my dad would come get us kids from Phoenix to visit with him in California, we always took route 66 and stop in Winslow for ice cream. Yes this was back in the 60's

It's terrible how Ally's friend abandoned her because her friend was allergic to bees. Wouldn't it be just awful if Ally fell into a vat of wheat and barley, and Justin said, "Oh, NO!!!! I can't help you because I have celiac disease, and this vat isn't gluten-free!!!!!!" (I apologize in advance. I am a deeply sick man.) Justin, don't let Ally fall into a vat of gluten!

aww oh no, poor Ally! Weirdly enough, the bee story is actually a relatable story considering I was in PE class in high school running the mile and a wasp stung me. Wasn't fun! But relatable nevertheless, so I feel you!
Every time I see these old, nearly abandoned tourist attractions like the Flintstones town, I always wonder how it was during the peak of these attractions. Like, there was a point where it was populated with so many people enjoying the experience. I don't know. Stuff like that blows my mind. It makes me wonder where other attractions that are popular today will be in a few decades.
Calaway Park in Calgary AB used to have the Flintstones licence and had a themed land. I'm not sure exactly when they lost the license but you can still see a lot of the old architecture there even if there is no Fred or Wilma around.
