I’ve never played the board game, but I know in the video game that once you start playing on the higher ascensions Act 1 stops being a cakewalk. In fact it’s quite common to die in Act 1 on high ascensions. Just bringing this up because you guys mentioned Act 1 being more of a prelude to the actually challenging content (and on the base difficulty I would agree!). Anyway, great stream 😁.
3:13:04 On Mel's first Strike after getting hit by the defensive mode of the boss her relic would have triggered to give her 3 block after she lost HP in this combat. so she would have prevented the damage afterwards.
Glad you managed to get hold of this game. It was so interesting to hear Slay the Spire described to board game people rather than video game people. To be fair, Slay the Spire did start a trend for video games, there are hundreds of Slay the Spire clones now. The fusion of that particular card based battle system combined with deck building, and combined with a roguelike system really appeals to video game people. The board game offering coop Slay the Spire might help get some video game people into board games though, if they already know how video game Slay the Spire works, it's not that much of a jump. Regarding your comment about possibly playing Xenoshyft again, the physical copy might be out of print, but there is a phone app. I haven't played it for a while, so I don't know if it broke in the last year or so, but there is at least some way for people to play it. It's not like you're unboxing Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit or something. :P
Awesome play through! I’ve had a few solo runs but I’m trying it co-op for the first time tonight. Where did you get the card organisers from? I’ve looked everywhere and can only see 3D printed ones.
It's not often that boardgame has 2 or 3 years of online "playtesting" by thousands of players on Steam, but it has led to a very nice design which reminds me of Xenoshyft (but in a fantasy setting instead of sci-fi).
I personally would've gone up the far-left side of the map. You can do two late-act Elites that way with a campfire before them. Also, if the first Elite combat goes poorly, you can pivot off to the right and go to a Merchant instead.
3:09:11 I'm quite sure you forgot to apply the strength token to Mel's Finisher ... it should be "Deal 2 + (1 Strength) for each other Attack you played this turn". So instead of 7 * 2, it should have been 7 * 3 dmg. Because Finisher is an attack itself and strength token work on every attack.
So I am going to have to rewind and look at the unlock page again... but since you only check after completed games, would you now reconsider your decision to not check boxes after the two games you played off stream? If you counted them that would allow for several boxes being checked for the two starter classes and might get you to higher level content faster.

At 1:48:05 the die roll was a three, which would give Rob an energy from the relic
Mel (or chat) caught it 40 seconds later. :P)
I was pretty cold to this game when I saw it first, but looking at this video and a couple others does make me want to try it. The hunt begins!

Do the card caddies for the enemies and for the small cards come in the retail version?
shiv resets every turn, right? that's how it is on the game.
Almost makes me reinstall the video game. Played the heck out of it.
