The elevator motor at a medical clinic in great neck sounded just like that tone. This is why I viewed this video. After 37 years, I can recognize that tone.
You should hear the high tide alarm which is an organ on the promenade worked by air pressure from the sea in Blackpool England it's absolutely fu.....g terrifying !
It's very well shot. I think the Kubrick feel comes from the all white room. The editing style in parallel editing is also experimental throughout the film.
Also, I just felt this character was a hugely unorthodox. He's got the ugliest hairstyle of all time. They already have 2 classical main characters, yet they give the best scene to this pony tail dude. I was certain there had to be something shady about him. Was certain he woud become a villain. Or die near the ending.

I love Phantasm!!! I love the sound of teleporter room!!!
Remains the best sound ever
I wish someone could make one of those 8 hour long videos of the teleported hum. Damn that sounds good.
That sounds like a good idea.
andrew gonzales just record it and put it on a permanent loop. I agree, it's a mesmerizing sound.
andrew gonzales ASMR? :)
Somebody did...check this out. The last minute of this video.... th-cam.com/video/4Lsp5YZgsZU/w-d-xo.html
There's binaural beats and brain waves that have tones like that I love them I listen to it all the time.
OK this is the coolest god damn sound in the known universe
So this is where he got the ability to move between dimensions... looking back a lot of stuff had been there from the start. Props to the filmmakers!
Just roll out those barrels of cheer :o

fucking genius this one
Weird but cool sound
This felt so odd and refreshing compared to standard horror movies. Almost a Kubrick vibe in this scene.

True - it's mainly the white room which makes it a bit Kubrickesque. But also the odd vibe, the larger than life feeling and the sound effects.

Hairstyle stayed pretty consistent in all of the sequels as well.
BenRangel Hey, give The Reggie man credit: he was the model for HellBoy's hair style that looked cool on him...
I wonder if harmonic resonance can teleport you when the right frequencies meet... hmm..
M4 Media : Also add magnetic flux density which is how we operated our spaceships millions of years ago and yes it's quite true.

What a surreal cool scene.
The space gate portal!
The sound reminds me of "Loom" by Yellow Magic Orchestra off the "BGM" album.
There's a serious mystery in this.
